Aurora Borealis Observatory in Rovaniemi, FinlandDesignCompetitionorganizedbyArchmediuminSpring2012.

Thecompetitionexpectthedesignofareceptionstructurelocatedinoneofthemostremoteandcoldplaceoftheworld:theFinnishLapland.TheresortisplacedinahilllocationclosetoRovaniemi’slakeandit’scomposedbyseveralspacesliketheSauna,therestaurant,theplanetariumandsomebedrooms.

Theprojectforecastssomehypogeumenviroments,organizedbyapolargeometry,coveredwithglassdomes,fromwhichisitpossibletoadmiretheNorthernLights,whileremainingprotectedfromthepolarcold.Thosetransparentigloosaresupportedbyanexternalstructuremadebythreearchesoflaminatedwood,anchoredtothegroundwithappropriatesupports

CasaRaventòsinVillanovaiLaGeltrù,Catalunya.

Thisprojectwasmadeforafriendwhohadtorenovatethehousethathadbelongedtohisgrandparents.

Whenitwasbuilt,thehousewasorganizedwithacentralstaircasethatdividesthefloorsintoafrontpartofthehousewhichcatchesallthelightandthewindsandabackpartwhichisdarkanduncomfortable.Theprojectconsiderstomovethestaircasetothebottomofthepropriety,inordertocreatealargelivingroom/kitchenatthemainfloor.

Ontheroof–terracethereisanewloftwhichisusedasastudioandworkenvironment.Moreover,thenewroomisconnectedatthebottomwiththestaircaseandwiththelivingroomatthefirstfloor,allowingthenaturalventilationofthewholebuilding.

RequalificationprojectofPiazzadell’IsolottoinFlorence,Italy.DesignCompetitionorganizedbythemunicipalityofFlorenceintheperiodDecember2014–February2015.

Theproject,whichisconfiguredasanensembleoffewminimalgestures,consistoftheedificationofacoveredspaceobtainedbyasequenceofcor-tenportals,whichholdaglasscoverandaseriesofwoo-denelementsfortheshadingofthespacesbelow.

Thenexttosquareismadeapedestrianareaandisequippedwithanewpavement.Thenewbuildingincor-tenworkslikeafilterandentersintoarelationshipbetweenthepedestriansqua-reandthechurchyard,aswellaswiththegreenspaceslocatednearby.

Allthosenewambientsaregoingtobeusedindifferentways:likeamarketareaonthestreetunderthecovering,likeawalkingandchilling squae on the opposite side, and as environment equipped fortherestoration(thankstothetablesandthekioskswhichremainopenalsointheafternoon).

Alotofsignificancewasgiventothesocialvalueofthissquareandforthisreasonwethoughtaplacewhich,inparticularoccasions,couldhostpubliceventsandfeststhatmakesIsolottooneofneigh-borhoodsmostlivelyofFlorence.

YATCH CLUB AND SAILING SCHOOL IN FORTE DEIMARMI, ITALY

Project made for the “Architectural Design Lab III”, pro-fessorMichelangeloPivetta,UniversityofFlorence,2011-2012.

Theprojectisconfiguredasadoubleramp,placedincon-tinuationoftheroadconnectingtheFortedeiMarmi’sperwiththeMountainsbehind.

The ramps remind in the shape and in the location, a gre-atwavewhichrisesfromtheseatothecity.Undertheseramps are

Underthisramptakeplaceallthefunctionsrequiredbytheprogram:thesailingschool,theclub,thecafeteriaandtheservices.

Awideopenspaceatthegroundfloorworksasaccessoryto thesquare,providingshading for thehottesthoursofthe day.

On the top of the ramp, easly reachable both from thesquareandfromthebeach,thereisalargepublicterracefromwhich is it possible toenjoyaprivileged360° viewover the sea and the mountains.

TheprojectislocatedinacountryareaintheFlorentinePlain,betweentheairportandtheHighway.ThemainideawastoreusethemarksoftheancientRomancenturiationinordertograftasystemofemptyandfullspaceswhichorgainzedthecomplex.

Thepublicspacesreflectthevoyds:alargecrosscarvedintothegroundthataccommodatesthesquare,the access road and the churchyard.

Insidethelargevolumewhichrisesovertheexcavationtakeplacethechurch.Thesystemofporchesworksasafilterbetweentheopenspacesandtheundergroundones,inwhichareorganizedtherectory,theclassroomsandtheotherspacesdedicatedtothecommunity.

Themuseumislocatedinamiddlepositionbetweenthelibraryoftheuniversityandthezoologicalgarden.Theprojectiscompoundbytwosystems:thebasement,treatetwithbriks,whichhostsanelevatedplaza,andtheexhibitvolumesinconcrete.

Throughaglassgallery,whichorganizesallthecomplex,theexhibithroomsareconnectedwiththeuniversity’slibrary.

Inthiswayit’spossibletoobtainanewwaytouseboththeculturalcentres.Moreover,thepresenceofarecessandnumerousglasswallsconnectsthemuseumwiththecity.

Theexhibitvolumesareorganizedonasqaurecentralplant,whichhoststhebiggerexpositions,andseveralsmallerspaces,whichstandaroundthecentraloneandhostthecollectionataminorscale.

REORGANIZATIONOFMERCAFIRAREAINFLORENCE,ITALY.

ProjectmadefortheUrbanDesignLabI,professorsPaoloGiovanniniandFrancescoAlberti,Uni-versityofFlorence,2011-2012

Thisprojectconsistofthereorganizationofa350.000m2wideareainthesuburbsofFlorence.

Asregardsthefruitandvegetablemarket,wedecidedtomaintainthecentralcore,wellconnectedwiththeroadinfrastructures,wherethevegetablesarrive.Aroundthiscorethereisapedestrianareadedicatedtoretail.Thismarketstreetalsoworksasconnectionbetweenthenewresidentialareasplannedontheeastandonthewestofthemarket.Moreover,thereareplannedseveralschoolandsport services and many green public area.

Alltheareasarelinkedthroughasystemofbicycleandpedestrianwalkways(theredlines),whichgoesacrossthewholeareaoftheprojectwithoutsettingfootondriveways.Thosewalkwaysarealsoconnectedtotheundergroundparksthroughaseriesofsmallelevator/stairstowers.
