    Downloadthephotobelowfromhttp://tigerteched.pbworks.com/imagesandopenuptheGimp.Openupthephotowejustdownloaded.GotoSelect>All,copy&pasteontoanewlayer.Deletetheoriginallayer.

    Nowweneedtoaddsometext.Atthispoint,goaheadandusetheTextToolandtypeinwhateveryouwantyourgraffititosayandselectafont(weuseNosegrindbelow).Positionandsizeit.Don'tworryabouttheperspectiverightnow.Wewillgettothatlater.NamethislayerText

    Nowwelladdalittlebitofabackgroundandastroke(border)tothetext.Createanewlayerunderneaththetextlayerandnameit"text_bg."RightclickontheoriginaltextlayerandselectAlphatoSelectionthiscreatesaselectionaroundthetext.GotoSelect>Growonthemenutoexpandtheselection.Growby15pixels.Selectthetext_bglayerandfilltheselectionwithwhiteusingtheBucketFilltool.

  • Createanewlayerabovethetextlayerandnameit"text_gradient."RightclicktheoriginaltextlayerandselectAlphatoSelectionthiscreatesaselectionaroundthetext.Changetheforegroundcolorto#00a2ffandthebackgroundcolorto#383838.Youcanchangethecolorbydoubleclickingonthecolorsinthetoolbarontheleft.Thecoloronthetopistheforegroundcolorandthecoloronbottomisthebackgroundcolor.TypethosecolornumbersintheHTMLnotationfield.Theforegroundisablueandthebackgroundisadarkgrey.

    SelecttheBlendTool andapplyagradientfromtoptobottomofthetextonthetext_gradientlayer.Clickjustabovethetextandthenreleasejustbelowthetext.Thetextshouldfadefrombluetogrey.GotoSelect>Nonetoremovetheselection.

    Mergeallthelayersthatmakeupthetextbyrightclickingonthetopgradientlayerandselectmergedown.Repeatthisforalltextlayers.Intheend,youshouldhaveasingletextlayerandthebackground.GotoFilters>LightandShadow>DropShadow.SettheX&Yradiito20andtheblurradiusto0.Uncheckallowresizing.Settheopacityto70%.Hitok.Mergethetextlayerwiththenewshadowlayerbyrightclickingonthetextlayerandselectingmergedown.Ourtextisdone.

    Setthelayermodeofthetext'slayertoOverlay.YoudothisbychangingtheModefieldjustabovethelistoflayers.

    Atthispoint,thetextlooksalittletoosharptobespraypaint.Let'sfixthat.Duplicatethetextlayer.YoucandothisbyrightclickingonthetextlayerandselectingDuplicateLayer.Movetheduplicatelayerunderneaththeoriginaltextlayer.Withtheduplicatedlayerselected,gotoFilters>Blur>GaussianBlur.Enter30forbothvalues.Hitok.RightclicktheoriginaltextlayerandhittheAlphatoSelectionoption.Selecttheduplicatelayerandhitthedeletebutton.Thisdeletesthetextfromtheduplicatelayerandjustleavestheblurwejustadded.

    Usetheerasertooloonbothtextlayerstoerasethepartsofthetextcoveringthepole.ExpandthesizeoftheeraserbychangingtheScaleoftheErasertool.ThetoolpropertiesarefoundjustbelowtheTools.

    Letsaddonemoreeffect.GotoEdit>CopyVisible,andthengotoEdit>PasteAs>NewLayer.Onthenewlayerthatjustpoppedup,gotoFilters>Blur>GaussianBlur.Enter10forbothvaluesandhitok.SettheLayermodetoOverlay(seestep4forinfoondoingthis).Thisaddssomeadditionalcontrasttotheimage.

    Thereyouhaveit.Asimplewaytocreatesomegraffiti.Justrememberthatyoushouldneveruseasmoothwallonlytextured/roughones.Makestheeffectmorerealistic.
