a circular turf area from 6,500 square feet to a rectangular area of 4,200 square feet, the quest was once again started in search of water conservation in urban horticulture. The system was installed with an underground header and footer on an 18” center, 9-10”s deep, complete with backflow, EZ flow fertilizer injector and water meter.

In 2013 they applied 8.5” of water, representing roughly 27% of CIMIS allocations, hence, grabbing the attention of quite a few people who were doubtful that a sub-surface drip irrigation system could deliver these results. As a result, they proceeded into 2014 in search of more

answers. As of March 2015, they have applied 30% of evapotranspiration and the turf areas look good: in fact, quite a bit better than the overhead irrigation systems of many established overhead irrigation systems that suffer when irrigation water is cut back. With no foliar applications of fertilizer hence no runoff. They are using only organic fertilizer in their EZ Flo dispenser and have reduced application rates by at least 50% because of the micro doses going directly to the root zone.

As California moves forward in search of a solution to stretching its’ over tapped water system, this new technology offers a real time solution for landscape architects,

designers and homeowners to play apart in saving water with a new twist of drip irrigation. With their experience in the past with a drip irrigation system that led to more stripping than green, they are encouraged to see a new technology provide tangible water savings to urban horticulture. And most of all, saving water and keeping all the benefits of lawns and gardens for homeowners, families, and the environment.

So what if water conservation was as much dependent on the water delivery system as it was the plant material selected?

…How will you answer the question?

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD

Are you an On Purpose Business Person? Generally businesses have a Mission Statement, often time being wordy and not really saying much. But rarely do you find a business with a Purpose Statement! Your business or company you work for, needs to have a purpose state-ment and to align to it.

I read an interesting book titled “The On Purpose Business Person; Doing More of What You Do Best More Profitably”, by Kevin W. McCarthy. This is my book of the month.

Purpose is from the heart – even in business. Vision is the next critical factor in business and it resides in your mind’s eye. It is your dreams and possibilities. Your purpose and vision need to be connected

Got Purpose?and aligned. It is said vision not anchored in your purpose is most often just a costly distraction! What is your purpose?

Mission, Vision and Purpose of a busi-ness, (as well as life), are intertwined and work beautifully together to attain success. Missions are what we do to fulfill the vision that is anchored in our purpose. Mission is the doing and Purpose is the being and Vision is the seeing.

Our goal at the Gilroy Chamber is to not only have a Mission, Vision and Purpose but to assist our members developing and reaching their Mission, Vision and Purpose. Although we are not a coaching company, we do offer fantastic marketing strategies and numerous networking opportunities to help you attain

your goals. We also have many members offering services in the area of branding, goal setting and developing mission and purpose statements. Feel free to contact the chamber or stop by to get a list of these member businesses.

“Behind every success, there must be a purpose.” Albert E. N. Grey. What is your purpose? For many of us that is the trillion dollar question.
