Need funds to assist Adolfo with

some medical expenses for his

son and other financial needs.

Please pray that the current

kidney stone treatment for

Adolfo’s son is successful and

that surgery is not needed.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

The popular Tuesday morning study Pastor Kevin is leading on "Spiritual Gifts" is providing a new way of looking at this topic. Although the classes have been meeting for four weeks, you can still join the study for the final four weeks: Tuesday, July 11, 18, 25, and August 1 beginning at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall. The table just outside the church office has copies of the lesson ma-terial for July 11 plus materials that will help you catch up on what has already been covered in the study.

GIFTS DELIVERED TO THE CHILDREN OF THE DESERT by Maureen Perkins

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit,

and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord.

1 Corinthians 12:4-5

Thanks to the spiritual gift of giving by many members of VCC, several

groups of Tohono O’odham children recently received much needed

school supplies delivered by Zami Studt, Michael Galyen, and

Maureen Perkins. Dottie Day, a Bible teacher, who travels weekly

from Tucson to the reservation, was appreciative of the supplies given

to aid in evangelizing The Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ to the

youth. We watched her present an exciting Bible lesson, followed by

songs, activities, and scripture memory related to the lesson’s theme.

The People of the Desert live in the heart of

the Sonoran Desert, many in extreme

poverty. John Coleman who ministers to

the community gave us a tour of the area.

We witnessed first hand the needs of this

impoverished community. The heat was

oppressive and we were at least thankful

for ceiling fans in the church. We wondered

how the many free roaming dogs and

horses got their water supply in the harsh

desert climate. The Nation’s prison was just

several yards away from the local Head

Start program.

During our drive home, we reflected on

what the VCC members could do in the

future to help the children at The First Baptist Church where John

Coleman has been ministering since 2003. We really felt the children’s

nursery area was in need of biblical toys, books, and faith based wall

posters to decorate and brighten the space. We hope to turn this idea

into a Christmas offering.

As the result of her father’s contacts in the Philippines, the Lord has opened a number of opportunities for ministry for Yoojin and Donathan. In essence, they will be on a short term missions trip as they teach seminars in music at the seminary, conduct a master class in music ministry, and visit a variety of local churches.

Yoojin has not been on a missions trip since before coming to the United States, and she is very much looking forward to the opportunity. It will be Donathan’s first opportunity to en-gage in missions work.

It was a blessing for our fellowship to be able to commission Yoojin and Donathan to the Lord’s work for a few weeks this summer. On Sunday, June 25, the choir laid hands on Yoojin and the empty chair left for Donathan as Pastor Kevin prayed, as shown in the picture at left. Please keep Yoojin and Donathan in prayer for traveling mercies, the abil-ity to communicate, and for the bless-ing that goes with using your gifts to minister to others. In His Grace,

We are going to miss our Director of Music over the course of the next few weeks, as she travels to visit family in Korea, but we are excited for the ministry opportunity the Lord has provided for both Yoojin and her husband Donathan. As many of you know, Yoojin’s father pastored a church for many years in Korea. When he “retired”, he and his wife felt led to begin missions work in the Philippines. He sounds anything but retired, as he is involved in pastoring, seminary teaching and training pastors. Below is a picture of his recent install-

ICARE is a Yuma based ministry that establishes new congrega-

tions, trains and educates leaders, and cares for healthcare for peo-

ple in need. Our Point of Need support last month helped ICARE dis-

tribute 500 pounds of food and a large quantity of medical supplies to

doctors in San Quintin, a coastal town in the Mexican state of Baja

California.

Jon and Barb Habegger praise God for the opportunity for Child

Evangelism Fellowship volunteers who recently shared the Gospel

with 1546 people at the Pima County Fair. God used their efforts to

bring 586 individuals to profess their faith in Christ. Please pray for

the continued presence and success of CEF in Tucson schools.

Reservation trip. On June 6, several VCC members delivered our

Bus Load of school supplies to the Tohono O’odham Reservation.

Part of the supplies went to the children of the Living Word Christian

Academy, shown below, for their summer session, and the rest will be

distributed on July 13 to children attending the regular school.

Fikret Bocek and the church in Izmir, Turkey, are urgently asking

for our prayers. The Turkish government is operating under a state of

emergency, allowing them to detain or arrest any person considered

to be subversive. Fikret’s work in Bible distribution, church planting,

Christian student scholarships, and feeding Syrian refugees, has

brought him under investigation by the Turkish Police. Please pray

for Fikret’s safety and protection.

One of the musicians who played in the orchestra for our Easter Can-tada was so impressed with our auditorium and the welcome he re-ceived by the congregation that he asked to be able to perform here again. As a result our congregation and the community have an op-portunity to hear a program by The Cerulean Trio. We will have a pot-luck dinner for the congregation before the concert. The concert itself will be open to the public.

The Cerulean Trio brings together the unique combination of a single woodwind and string instrument with piano. Most recently, the trio has made their Carnegie Hall Debut in May in a program of works from American composer Timothy Hoekman. They were selected as finalists in the 2016 International Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition. Trio members are Dr. Jackie Glazier, Professor of Clarinet at Universi-ty of Arizona; Ivan Ugorich, who works with Tucson Symphony; and Galen Dean Peiskee Jr., an acclaimed collaborative pianist from Flori-da. The Cerulean Trio recital at VCC will be Friday, August 11 starting at 7:00 p.m. Doors for the public open at 6:30.

Yoojin named Artistic Director for the Tucson Masterworks Chorale

Congratulations to our Director of Music Ministries, Dr. Yoojin Muhn. She has just been named Artistic Director for the Tucson Masterworks Chorale. This part time position for Dr. Muhn gives her yet another way to use her great musical gift. Founded in 1949, Tucson Masterworks Chorale is Southern Arizona’s premier community chorus. Tucson Masterworks Chorale, now in its 68th year of presenting the great masterworks of choral literature to Tucson audiences, announces its Fall concert program “Songs of Poet-ry and Love.” “Songs of Poetry and Love” promises to be an alluring exploration of varied expressions of love and poetry by stunning choral music. The first half will feature the beloved choral love songs such as Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder-Walzer (New Love-Song Waltzes), op.65, with four soloists and two pianists, and Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs with a solo violinist. The second half will continue with Ran-dall Thompson’s Frostiana, an exquisite setting of Robert Frost’s seven poems, Harold Darke’s In the Bleak Midwinter, and John Rutter’s What Sweeter Music.
