During these last five years of being in the preaching ministry, there are several things that have been brought to my attention. There are “life situa-tions” that our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ are having a hard time understanding. And with that lack of understanding, we soon began to ques-tion ourselves and seek answers from the wrong people. The phrase that I hear most often is, “I just can’t take it anymore!” It’s a very sensitive and heart felt statement for many and it lets us know that pain is being felt some-where. We, as believers face many challenges in life and little by little start to feel as though we are being defeated by each one of them.
God has indeed created us each for a purpose and has given us a mission that we need to get accomplished. However, God has made it well known in 1 Peter 4:12-13 that the journey for believers will NOT be easy. Life is pretty tough at times. There’s pressure on every side to conform to what the world around you wants rather than to what God wants. There’s pressure to wear the right clothing, act the right way, go to the right places. Life is not easy. So, I encourage you to be prayerful and seek God about the trials you are experi-encing in your life. On a daily basis we get so caught up and we try to guide ourselves out of situations. Well, my brothers and sisters, we can’t do it alone.
As a believer, one thing we have to learn is that God cares. No matter what you’re going through you should always seek His face and no matter how much we want to turn to the world for answers, we have to turn from our wicked ways, and stand back to watch how God works in a mighty way for you. He tests us each and every day, but it is up to us to pass them. Sometimes the greatest lessons are learned through our pain. Finally, I en-courage this body of Christ to always keep your hand in the Lord’s hand be-cause your test just may end up being your testimony.

“Train a child in the way he should go….”
~Proverbs 22:6
Proverbs 22:6 says that
we should train our chil-dren in the way they should go and when they are older, they will surely not leave it. That proverb is certainly being put in to action within New Gideon’s Youth Ministry. Minister Kedric Green,
New Gideon’s Youth Pas-tor, along with his strong network of parents and volunteers are striving to make an enormous impact on our youth. That impact is evident in the birthing of several new ministries, increased youth participa-tion, and continued paren-tal encouragement and support. Several years ago, it
used to be that the youth
choir and the bible drill team were the extent of the Youth Ministry, but with much prayer, suppli-cation, and stepping out on faith, the Youth De-partment has evolved into something that children and teenagers are now “willing” participants. Those days of dragging children to the church are nearly extinct. According to Minister
Green, the vision and pur-pose for the Youth Minis-try is to help the youth to recognize and embrace their gifts, develop a re-spect for differences, and to serve those in need. Furthermore, youth are
provided guidance in de-veloping a healthy and
effective prayer life by applying faith in their daily lives and having a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The youth are currently
sponsoring their quarterly fundraising event and are gearing up for a Lock In on March 26th. The Lock In will be for
youth ages 12-18 and will last from 6:00p.m. to 7:00a.m. the next day. There will be food, fun, games, movie time, a mo-tivational speaker, and door prizes. For more information
about the Youth ministry, please see Minister Kedric Green for details.
The National Association of University
Women recently celebrated their 100th year
anniversary and our very own, Kendra
Rushing, invited her chapter, The East Baton
Rouge Chapter of NAUW to fellowship with
the New Gideon family.
The Ladies were blessed with a powerful
word from the Lord and, in turn, became a
blessing to the Shepherd of our house. In
August, the NAUW, will be holding its Cen-
tennial Convention in Washington D.C.
where the First Lady, Michelle Obama, will
make an appearance.

Association of University Women, please

The big emphasis in 2010 is to help everyone to save more. You may ask, what am I saving for? Maybe you haven’t given it a whole lot of thought, but you should. What if you need new tires for your car, how much will that cost? What if you need a new washer/dryer? How will you pay for it? Many people are turning to payday loan companies. I’m not sure if that is truly the best way to handle an emergency. The cycle contin-ues after you write one check, then on payday, you need your money for something else. We don’t know what will occur in life, but we can put a little aside each month to prepare. Our elders were wise in many aspects. Do you remember the lesson about planning for a rainy day? We didn’t understand as children, but as adults we understand the importance of planning ahead.
Many people do not realize that you can have several bank accounts for different purposes. If you use your checking account for your bills and direct deposit, allow the bank to transfer $25 a month or more to a savings account. After a year, you’ll have $300 plus the interest that the bank pays. If you can increase it to $50 a month, you will have $600 plus interest. Be-lieve me, you won’t miss it if it’s taken out before you see it. Allow it to grown and before you realize it, your rainy day fund will have a nice bal-ance. No, you won’t get rich, but you will feel wonderful because you were able to save. This account can be used for Christmas shopping or a nice Summer vacation. Children actually enjoy the less expensive vacations more than the Disney vacations. Sometimes they want to spend a few days being lazy on the beach just like we do.
Getting back to the checking account, if you have a spouse, why not have two checking accounts? One can be used solely for bills. The other account can be used for debit card purchases. Yes, women prefer writing checks and men prefer using the debit card. If there is a lapse in commu-nication, NSF fees can occur. Those fees tend to add up very quickly if you forget to make a deposit
The hardest thing about saving is actually getting started, but if you follow these tips, then you will be well on your way to saving for that rainy day!

Would you know if you were being cyberbullied and, would you know who to tell if you were? Do you ever say mean things to people online or via your cell phone? You could be a cyberbully and not even know it!
“Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embar-rassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital tech-nologies or mobile phones. It has to have a minor on both sides, or at least have been instigated by a minor against another minor. Once adults become involved, it is plain and simple cyber-harassment or cyberstalking. Adult cyber-harassment or cyberstalking is NEVER called cyberbullying.
There are two kinds of cyberbullying, direct attacks (messages sent to your kids directly) and cyberbullying by proxy (using others to help cyberbully the victim). Cyberbullying by proxy often gets adults involved in the harassment which results in a more dangerous situation. Here are some examples of direct attacks: • Instant Messaging/Text Messaging Harrasment– kids send hurtful and/or threatening messages to other
kids. • Stealing Passwords– a child may use another child’s password to chat or send messages to others while
pretending to be the other child. • Blogs– a kid may start a blog (an online journal) that can
damage another child’s reputation. • Sending pictures through email/cell phones– there have
been cases of teens sending mass emails that include nude or degrading photographs of other teens. Once an email like this is sent, it is passed to hundreds of other people within hours and cannot be stopped.
