David Glick, a technology consultant gave presentations about the future of technology to the GFW School Board and the District staff

Staff completed a technology needs assessment

Teachers and principals from all three sites attended the 2009 TIES conference to get information on the latest technology initiatives and student engagement strategies.

Staff worked individually on improving technology skills through Atomic Learning tutorials.

Presentations to local organizations (county libraries, civic organizations) on the plan and benefits for learners.

iPad PolicyStudent Pledge for iPad Use• I will take good care of my iPad. • I will never leave the iPad unattended. • I will never loan out my iPad to other individuals. • I will know where my iPad is at all times. • I will charge my iPad's battery daily.• I will keep food and beverages away from my iPad since they may cause damage to

the device.• I will not disassemble any part of my iPad or attempt any repairs. • I will protect my iPad by only carrying it while in the case provided. • I will use my iPad in ways that are appropriate, meet GFW expectations and are

educational. • I will not place decorations (such as stickers, markers, etc.) on the iPad. I will not

deface the serial number iPad sticker on any iPad. • I understand that my iPad is subject to inspection at any time without notice and

remains the property of the GFW School District. • I will follow the policies outlined in the iPad Handbook and the Use of Technology

Resources Policy while at school, as well as outside the school day. • I will file a police report in case of theft, vandalism, and other acts covered by

insurance. • I will be responsible for all damage or loss caused by neglect or abuse. • I agree to return the District iPad, case and power cords in good working condition

iPad Protection Plan:Three options:-insure through personal homeowners insurance-$500 deposit-$50 annual insurance policy through school

Staff Development4 Days Apple Staff Development: Sessions and Topics Covered: Introduction to iPad iWork - Pages, Numbers, Keynote iLife - iTunes, iPhoto Wikis and Blogs iPad Applications iCal

Ongoing staff development! -three afternoon training days! -twice-monthly staff sharing sessions

Teacher Support:-Paraprofessional prepares and syncs iPads for students and staff-Two staff members on special assignment to support staff - 1 period/day!

iPad ApplicationsTeachers were provided with iPads the spring before implementation. A basic set of applications was installed on the iPads. Teachers had a chance to search for applications in their subject area and make recommendations for purchase.

The following is a list of the applications which were initially installed on the student iPads. Additional applications will be installed throughout the year. All applications are purchased through the Apple Volume Licensing Program.

-Collecting Insurance forms and signed student/parent agreements

-Four laptop base stations that have the approved apps and back ups for students

-Set up volume licensing account, multiple email accounts to purchase applications.

The big day came on September 9, 2010 when students were introduced to the iPad. High School Principal, Jeff Bertrang explained the basic operation of the iPad, and introduced the applications found on the iPad. Also discussed were student expectations for use of the iPads and the GFW Acceptable Use Policy. Students were then presented with their iPads.

Curriculum Integration

Teachers post assignments into iCal. Students subscribe to the calendars of their classroom teachers. The assignments automatically update as their teacher adds new assignments or modifies existing calendar events.
