Get motivated by Leadership Conference keynote speakers Plan on attending the 2015 MSBA Leadership Conference scheduled for January 15-16 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. (Pre-conference events, such as MSBA school board member workshops and Early Bird Sessions, are scheduled for January 13-14.) Along with a great slate of workshops and round tables, the conference will feature two inspiring keynote speakers — Kevin Honeycutt and Jeff Charbonneau. Kevin Honeycutt will delve into the multi-task- ing, quick-researching, opportunity-seeking mind. He will help you imagine ways you can empower students to be- come skillful in using the tools of today to become better learners. He will share ideas and powerful stories to inspire you and reinvigorate your mission as an educational leader. Kevin — a current three-term school board mem- ber in Kansas — grew up in poverty and attended school in many cities across the United States. As he witnessed education around the country, he collected powerful experiences that still influence his conversa- tions and his work with educators. He spent 13 years teaching K-12 art in public school and for 17 years spent summers leading creative adventure camps for kids of all ages. In 1991, he received the “Making IT Happen Award,” which is an internationally recog- nized award for educators and leaders in the field of educational technology integration in K-12 schools. Imagine an entire educa- tion system built to look like a great classroom. A place where the underly- ing theme to everything is positive relations — with the school board, students, staff, administration, par- ents, and the community. Jeff Charbonneau believes that if we could put the real world of education first, our problems will become much easier to handle. Jeff was named the 2013 National Teacher of the Year by the Council of Chief State School Officers. He teaches physics, chemistry and engineering at Zillah High School (Washington), the same school he attended. Jeff is a big proponent of STEM/STEAM education. He runs a statewide robot- ics competition, while also serving as the school’s yearbook advisor and assistant drama director. He helped transform his small school into a place where nearly every student graduates with college credit. ursday, January 15 Opening Session Keynote Speaker Kevin Honeycutt “Challenges and Opportunities for Today’s Learning Mind” Friday, January 16 Closing Session Keynote Speaker Jeff Charbonneau “Teach Each Other”
