Participants in this program will attain a

greater awareness of the educational, finan-

cial, and career resources available to them

in the community.

Participants will receive one-on-one support

and guidance to help them pursue their aca-

demic and career interests. The H.E.R.O.

program will assist students with:

Completing applications for college,

certificate programs, or trade schools

Applying for financial aid

Developing academic planning or career

planning skills

Career counseling through mentorship

to pursue higher education and careers in

STEM or other fields of interest.

The HREI Higher Education Resources &

Opportunities (H.E.R.O.) Program is part

of The Better Futures for Idaho Youth

AmeriCorps program. The program has

designated a VISTA employee from

AmeriCorps. The VISTA will leverage

community resources and partnerships

to support participants by: Helping participants overcome real

and perceived barriers to higher

education

Guiding participants to existing

programs and resources in the

community

Connecting participants with a mentor

that will give one-on-one support.

Strengthening participants success

through tutoring and workshops.

The Human Rights Education Institute’s

mission is to celebrate diversity and

promote human rights by educating,

raising awareness and recognizing the

value of all humanity. HREI partners with K-12 schools in our re-

gion to provide cultural education, to

supplement human rights curriculum, and

to promote an environment of inclusivity at

all grade levels. HREI works closely with local educators to

plan for future curriculum needs and is

aligned with teaching the most current

state and national bullying prevention

program models.

Where, after all, do universal human rights

begin? In small places, close to home - so

close and so small that they cannot be seen

on any maps of the world... Unless these

rights have meaning there, they have little

meaning anywhere.”
