The German Shepherd In History

1918U.S. troops told stories about the intelligence and beauty of these dogs. Soldiers even brought shepherds home with them. Americans opened their hearts to the German Shepherd after the war ended.

1917America entered World War I so everything German became taboo. The name of the breed was changed to the Shepherd Dog.

1914 German Shepherds served during World War I (1914-1918) as Red Cross dogs, messenger dogs, supply carriers, sentinel, tracking and guard dogs.

1970They were officially renamed German Shepherd.

1918Rin-Tin-Tin was a shell-shocked pup found by an American soldier in a bombed-out dog kennel in France. He named the dog after a puppet called Rintintin that French children gave to soldiers for good luck. The soldier brought the dog home with him to California.
