The PART IV contains references scanned from major analytical and geochemical Journals that have become available to the author from January through December 1983. A few earlier ones which were not available at the time of the previous review (PART 1II:I or those which have previously escaped OUT attention have also been included. During the period covered by this biblio- graphy, a total number of 162 references has been collected, this number has remained approximately the same as compared t o the earlier reviews. More than 30 Journals have published GRS articles during 1983. The vast majority of the papers deals with trace element determinations. Table I shows the distribution of these articles in these Journals. Judging from the number of publications, Geostandards Newsletter remains the principal source of information for the geoana- lytical community. Table I1 lists the frequency of the use of various analytical techniques. Several trends are discernable from this Table. As has been noted in earlier reviews, neutron activation analysis (NAA) continues to play an extremely important role in analytical geochemistry. Another interesting feature with respec' previous reports is the rapid increase in number of mass spectrometry contributinqs. We have witnessed a steadily growing i i in Table 1. Nd and Sr isotopic compo- sitions were the su'-.ject of several articles. On the other hand, atomic absorption spec- trometry continues to be a major tool in geochemical analysis. However, inductively coupled argon plasma spectroscopy (ICP) is continuing to gain ground and is now beginning to compete with this technique. ICP shows a great promise for geoanalysts. A special issue of Spectrochimica Acta, Part B (vol 38, N01/2) was devoted to the proceedings of the "1982 Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry" held in Orlando, Florida, 4-9 january, 1982. Once again we have tried to maintain a coverage as complete and exhaustive as possible. Geostandards Newsletter, VL . 8, m0 2, Octobre 1984, p. 207 6 . 218
