The underdog left at home to sweep the hearth A lower working class flower girl Working at a Gardening magazine, up to her eyeballs in debt because of a shopping addiction Working as a street-level hooker – the lowest of the low. But… she has some innate good qualities going unrecognised: She is kind, generous and humble: deserves better She has a good heart, a sense of humour – a good soul, but lost and unlucky. An opportunity denied OR her negative situation becomes acute / desperate: Going to the ball (because she is nothing but a worthless scullery maid) Manning her own flower shop in Covent Garden (because she doesn’t have the right accent) Working at a fashion magazine (because her shopping addiction got in the way of getting to the interview in time and the post was already filled) “Arrival of the Fairy Godmother” – break into Act 2 Fairy GM turns up and turns mice into footmen, sewing her a beautiful dress and everything she will need to complete the transformation into beautiful Henry Higgins turns up and, on hearing her, says she will make an excellent phonetics project and takes on a bet with his fellow phonetics colleague that he  The receptionist at the magazine company suggests that she tries for a  job at another magazine, Money Matters are hiring, and this will give her an opportunity Richard Gere arrives in a Porsche; ends up hiring her to spend the night. Act changes when he asks her to spend the week with him.

She has losteverything. Back toa life on thestreets, but with arenewed sense of her own value –fuck those snobbyassholes.

much happy everafter

Pays off debts,makes amendswith best friendand then bumpsinto Luke anddiscovers he wasthe anon bidder.She goes on towrite a columncalled “Confessionsof a Shopaholic” aspart of his newbusiness andenters into arelationship withhim.

Realising her truevalue / true virtues,Gere puts socialsnobbery aside andgoes to her andbegs for her tocome back to him. This time, as aromantic equal, nota hooker. Heproves to her thathe wants her forwho she is, not howshe has seemed toothers. Theyreunite, in love.
