Dear partners,

An international meeting venue ideally situated in the heart of Europe, a financial and technological hub with a global reputation, Geneva is a cosmopolitan city, a unique and particularly privileged setting for business tourism that takes its visitors by surprise.

Proof lies in the fact that the city is home to the European headquarters of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, to over 200 international organizations and to numerous international corporations. Today, 44 per cent of the city’s inhabitants are foreign, enhancing the remarkable cultural diversity expressed in Geneva’s exemplary openness to the world. Meeting facilities with state-of-the-art technology, hotels equipped to the most exacting standards and highly skilled personnel are other assets that attract tourism professionals.

But Geneva also has a human dimension. It is known for the quality of life its visitors are delighted to discover. Thanks to a rich past, a magnificent natural environment and an outstanding range of fine dining opportunities, the smallest of the world’s great cities is a prime-choice destination for the organization of any event.

Geneva Tourism & Conventions, your ideal partner, is pleased to offer you this brochure, which presents the outstanding array of possibilities Geneva offers business travellers. Don’t hesitate to call on the professional staff at our Convention Bureau for advice and individually tailored solutions that will meet your every expectation and ensure the success of your event.

IN THE HEART OF EUROPEIts exceptional geographical position in the heart ofEurope, its state-of-the-art facilities and its top-notchservices make Geneva the ideal venue for events of allkinds. The intercontinental airport is a mere 5 km fromthe centre and offers direct flights to over 100 internationaldestinations. The road and rail network provide rapid access to the rest of Switzerland andEurope (Schengen visas are valid to enter the country). But Geneva also offers a wealth of entertainment in aunique setting that is as pristine as it is welcoming.

TOP-NOTCH SERVICEAs a business destination, Geneva’s temperate and pleasant climate and array of entertainment possibilities, make this smallest of the great cities an ideal spot for a stay. To better accommodate its visitors, Geneva has considerably expanded its hotel offer in recent decades. It presently has no fewer than 126 hotels of all categories, including 16 5-star hotels, with a total capacity of over 9,000 rooms. Comfort, state-of-the-art equipment and tradition combine to offer our guests a personalized service in keeping with the reputation of the Swiss hotel trade.

BETWEEN LAKE AND MOUNTAIN Situated at the western tip of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps and the Jura mountains, the city is both beautiful and elegant. Prestigious hotels and gourmet restaurants line its famous lakefront in a sublime décor of fountains, flowers and parks. The 140 meter high Water Fountain occupies a prime and central position on the lakefront and is a proud symbol of the city.Only minutes from town, and lovers of fresh air and fine wines will delight in the lush countryside and Geneva’s vineyards, the third most extensive in Switzerland and known for the high quality of their wines.

GENEVA, THE GASTRONOMICCAPITAL OF SWITZERLANDGeneva is replete with excellent restaurants which will delight the most demanding of palates. Geneva’s cuisine blends a wealth of local products with flavours from around the world. The fish-filled waters of the lake and the local markets are a source of fresh and tasty produce that our chefs outdo each other in preparing. But if Geneva can satisfy the most exacting of gourmets, it is also because of our passion for the wide range of locally produced wines. Geneva has many restaurants listed in the best specialist guides and can justly claim the enviable title of gastronomic capital of Switzerland.

AN EXCEPTIONAL REPUTATIONGeneva has a history of hosting international meetings and regularly plays host to heads of State and government, representatives of major corporations and leaders of civil society. Known worldwide as the capital of peace, the home of the European headquarters of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, the city attracts thousands of visitors every year who come for conferences and meetings or simply to relax.

AN ARRAY OF CULTURAL EVENTS AND MORE Geneva is host to an impressive array of cultural and sporting events. Its 40 public and private museums, numerous theatres – including the Grand-Théâtre, one of Europe’s foremost music venues – and countless art galleries offer events year-round that are worthy of the world’s major cities. For three weeks in the summer, the lakefront pulses to the rhythm of the music and fairs of the famous Geneva Festival. The world-renowned festivities close with one of the most beautiful firework displays in the world.

When it comes to sports, the region has something for everyone: all manner of water sports, golf, cycling, mountain hikes, paragliding, rafting, skiing in winter, etc. And for those who prefer to watch rather than play, major annual meets include the Geneva Marathon, the Bol d’Or Mirabaud Regatta, the CSI-W International Equestrian Competition, the Course de l’Escalade and Courses du Mandement footraces, the International Supercross and the slowUp, to name but a few.At night, the city dresses up and offers night owls a thousand ways to celebrate, even if at first glance the streets seem calm and serene. For Geneva is also home to a multitude of trendy bars, cabarets, discos and fashionable nightclubs that cater to everyone’s needs and tastes.

SHOPPERS’ PARADISEVisitors to Geneva will come across more shops in a single hour than during a whole day’s shopping elsewhere. Lining its streets, intersections and boulevards, hundreds of shops compete to greet shoppers in a courteous, cheerful and knowledgeable manner. Customers will be spoilt for choice: from elegant clothing, sparkling jewels and feats of Swiss watch-making to specialities by our master chocolate makers, our boutiques and shops have it all. Geneva is undeniably a shopper’s paradise.

Geneva, a world of its own!

1 HOTEL D’ANGLETERRE 2 HOTEL BEAU-RIVAGE GENEVA

NUMBER OF ROOMS: 45NUMBER OF MEETING ROOMS: 2

NUMBER OF ROOMS: 90NUMBER OF MEETING ROOMS: 7

Wonderfully located at the edge of Lake Geneva and with glorious views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding mountains, the five star Hotel d’Angleterre blends the great traditions of Swiss hospitality and comfort with every modern convenience. For business executives around the globe, as well as many of the world’s top stars and celebrities, politicians, blue chip companies and holiday guests, the Hotel d’Angleterre - a member of Leading Small Hotels of the World - has become an opulent home away from home where hand selected antiques are infused with modern technology. The perfect combination of relaxation, luxury and absolute privacy.

Beau-Rivage is Geneva’s oldest hotel in private hands and the last privately owned five star establishment. Built in 1865 by Jean-JacquesMayer, it has evolved continuously to keep abreast of current tastes. Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, the Beau-Rivage is far more than a luxurious and efficiently run 5 star palace. In a subtle alliance, tradition and contemporary reality coexist without ever giving in to compromise: a delicate balance between past and present on the one hand, and an acute sense of the need to prepare the future on the other.
