On Sunday nights the Ryser household has hosted “The Vine”; this is a group of age 18 to 27+ that gather with the primary purpose of connecting with God and with one another. Late last month I had the privilege to speak to this group of young adults. That particular night there were more than 20 who gathered at our house of which three of them claimed that one of their desires in the future is to go and serve Jesus on a foreign mission field. The rest of them who weren’t necessarily going into a “foreign” mission field were concerned about how to best reach this community for the cause of Jesus. I was thrilled inside as they shared with me how God was stirring in their hearts that they wanted to make a difference for the cause of Christ. Phyllis and I were elated. Indeed later that night we were talking about the number of younger adults from our church who are sensing a call to serve Christ in some international ministry. We counted seven that we know of that feel a vocational calling to missions. This is out of the norm for a church, but it only reminds me again that God is up to something here. I see the connection. Do you? Jesus looked around in his day and saw the harvest was ripe for the picking. He called his disciples together to pray to the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers. (Matt. 9:37 & 38) For over 30 years men have faithfully gathered every Saturday morning to pray to the Lord of the harvest. Jesus has been faithful to raise up servants who are going into that harvest. What a privilege it is to stand with them and support them as God brings to fruition the stirring in their hearts. I can’t wait to see how He leads them. Whether privately, in connect groups or in classes, be sure to pray that God will continue the work He has started for the worldwide missionary effort that everybody has equal opportunity around the world to hear about Jesus! Generation Next & 30 Plus Years of Faithful Prayer

Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. 1 Tim 2:8

It takes numerous things to make a thriving, growing church ministry. It takes godly leadership,

committed people and a God-driven vision that leans heavily into the future. However, I would put

the faithful, fervent prayer life of God’s people at the very top of that list.

One of the highlights of my weekend experience begins on Saturday mornings when up to 12 men

gather at the church in order to pray. Just recently our presiding elder, Dean Cobbs, informed me

that he has been a part of this ministry from the inception. As near as he can tell, it is at least 32

years and counting. Think of it! Men gathering every Saturday morning – 52 Saturdays a year to

pray for the ministry and the furthering of the Gospel through DFC. WOW—I love it!

On Sunday nights the Ryser household has hosted “The Vine”; this

is a group of age 18 to 27+ that gather with the primary purpose of

connecting with God and with one another. Late last month I had the

privilege to speak to this group of young adults. That particular night

there were more than 20 who gathered at our house of which three of

them claimed that one of their desires in the future is to go and serve Jesus on a foreign mission

field. The rest of them who weren’t necessarily going into a “foreign” mission field were concerned

about how to best reach this community for the cause of Jesus. I was thrilled inside as they shared

with me how God was stirring in their hearts that they wanted to make a difference for the cause of

Christ. Phyllis and I were elated. Indeed later that night we were talking about the number of

younger adults from our church who are sensing a call to serve Christ in some international ministry.

We counted seven that we know of that feel a vocational calling to missions. This is out of the norm

for a church, but it only reminds me again that God is up to something here.

I see the connection. Do you? Jesus looked around in his day and saw the harvest was ripe for the

picking. He called his disciples together to pray to the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth

laborers. (Matt. 9:37 & 38) For over 30 years men have faithfully gathered every Saturday morning

to pray to the Lord of the harvest. Jesus has been faithful to raise up servants who are going into

that harvest. What a privilege it is to stand with them and support them as God brings to fruition the

stirring in their hearts. I can’t wait to see how He leads them.

Whether privately, in connect groups or in classes, be sure to pray that God will continue the work

He has started for the worldwide missionary effort that everybody has equal opportunity around the

world to hear about Jesus!

Are there areas of your life where you are feeling hopeless? Do you feel like you are living out the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result? If this is you, join us at Celebrate Recovery each Thursday night at 6:30.

This month you will learn that Hope comes when we believe that a power greater than ourselves, our Higher Power, Jesus Christ, can and will restore us. Jesus alone can provide that power, since we on our own are powerless over our hurts, hang-ups and habits. He alone can restore order and meaning to our lives. He can alone restore us to sanity.

Political troubles in Thailand Last week the Thai Army staged a bloodless coup

and took over the government of Thailand. The Prime Minister, who had already been forced to step down by the courts and many of the current leaders were taken into custody. The media was silenced for about 24 hours and protesters were told to disperse. There is a curfew at night and political meetings are forbidden. Not very much has changed for us. We are able to move around

and function pretty much the same as before. Lydia’s school was closed for one day, but this week she gets to finish her last week of the first grade. Please continue to pray for the nation of Thailand during this uncertainty.

Opportunities - Lately, Charity and I have had opportunities to be

involved in planning development projects that could open up opportunities for the gospel to be spread in this part of the world. The needs that we see are: health and hygiene in villages, water and sewage, and sources of income for Lahu people going to minister in new areas.

Our Work - While Charity and I still spend a lot of our time

studying language and culture, we are excited to see how the Lord can use us in some of these projects.

1. Charity continues to work with a

Thai run Christian organization as

they develop health and hygiene and

training in villages.

2. Next month several of my Lahu

coworkers and I will receive training

on how to build affordable bathrooms

and water storage units in remote areas. We

want to train other Lahu people to take this

resource to places that still don’t have

toilets or running water.

3. We are also looking into ways to raise

chickens for organic eggs as a

possible source of income for Lahu Christians in full time ministry.

Please pray that the Lord will give us wisdom

in everything we do so that His Kingdom will

be furthered in this corner of the world.
