From the President — September 2014As I write this on my deadline date of 15th of October, many
members will be packing up for a camping trip to Lake Perkolilli, some I know left today! This weekend will be the scource of many a tall tale and true and I look forward to some first hand accounts at the next General Meeting and Annual General Meeting on Monday the 3rd of November. Looking forward to a big roll up.Can't tell you how many shopping days there are to Christmas, I
don't know, but I do know that there is only one more meeting before the big day, so do not forget your Club regalia. Mike and Jean will be expecting to be busy for the next two meetings. Another gift sugestion could be in the safety line, new helmets and HANS or equivalent devices, you know it is going to happen so get on to it.The Committee have not met since the last general meeting, so until we do on Monday the
20th little to report, all the news will be given at the AGM/General Meeting on the 3rd.Enough from me. Stay healthy, drive safely and continue to support your Club and it's
members
Ian Fry
Editor's notesThe trouble with having an event the day before the Vintage Metal (15th of the month for
those who might be thinking of submitting something) is that there is no time to get a report or pictures into the magazine. That's why the Coalfields 500 photographs and hillclimb results are in this issue. Thank you to B de la Hunty for the pictures and to Geoff Jagoe for getting them to me.More photographs, of the Dad's Army visit to Ron West's West Coast Motor Museum,
were supplied by Shelley Richards. Again, thank you.As ever, Lynn and Ross Oxwell did an excellent job of getting the Collie results, new
members and other necessary information to me. Ross also supplied an entry list for Collie, which helped in identifying the people and cars in the photographs.Wally Phoebe and Doug Vanzetti have kept me up to date with the social events and Ron
Fabry supplies Dad's Army information. Thank you to all of you and to all the other contributors to the content of Vintage Metal.
I received another Caversham photograph in time for this issue, showing Lindsay Taylor in his Renault Special at the Shell Hairpin at Caversham. I've known Lindsay for a long time. He was in charge of Toyota's WA press fleet when I was writing about such things for the RAC Road Patrol. In spite of the Toyota connection, he has been a Renault man for most of his life.Enough from me. See you next month.

VINTAGE SPORTS CAR CLUB OF W.A. (Inc)Minutes of the General Meeting – 6 October 2014
1. Meeting opened: 8:02 pm2. Welcome & Apologies: Apologies: Robyn Larkin, Doug Vanzetti, Don Hall, Ron West3. New Members and Guests: Luke Prior, Mike Brewer (2 old members returning to fold) and Harry McMahon.4. Adoption of previous month’s minutes: 1st September 2014 as printed in Vintage Metal Moved: Paul Wilkins Seconded: Simon Fry5. Business arising from Minutes: There was no business arising 6. Treasurer’s Report: Evan reported $213,469.60 in bank. The books are with the auditor and he is
hoping to have them back and to table them at the AGM on 3 November 2014 Motion: That the Treasurer’s report be received; Moved: Mike Upton Seconded: Ross Oxwell7. Secretary’s report: Correspondence: (Letters & emails) Robyn not present but reported not a lot of important mail receivedLetter of resignation from the club after many years of happy memories and good times was tabled from Syd Sunter-Smith.8. Club Management & Competition Committee Report: Paul Bartlett reported: • Calendar has gone to CAMS for approval. Events that were changed were Goomalling
Sprint to 10 October 2015 and Collie Coalfields is now listed for 12-13th September 2015.• 11 April 2015 Ed Farrar is proposing organising and running a Fair Day at Caversham• COLLIE COALFIELDS - Event was successful but disappointing in not enough entrants to
help cover costs as quite a few entrants indicated that they were attending and did not turn up hence leaving funds very tight.• INCIDENTS: There were 2 major incidents over the weekend where two drivers hit the tyre
barriers. One driver (regularity) was taken to Collie hospital after sustaining neck injuries (no HANS device) and the other (Race) only had damage to his car (he was wearing a HANS device).SPEAKER: Trevor Fairs (driver of Mini in incident at Collie) talked about what happened in his
incident and how his head moved etc and caused severe neck injuries .He was taken to Collie Hospital for observation and x-rays. Luckily it was only muscle injury sustained. His ambulance cost for trip from track to hospital was $900.00.Discussion was then held on the merits of the HANS device and costs etc and which would be more
value to driver. It was also explained that head movement could also be sustained side-ways and there are devices to stop this also, but these devices which cover every movement are just more expensive, so after long discussion and debate it is really up to the driver to make decision for themselves, but over all highly recommended from Trevor’s point of view.• SEAT BELT DEBATE: This was also discussed at length re 10 year old harness against lap
sash belts as per ADR ruling. If the car is modified outside of the ADR then car comes under the NCR ruling of 5 years with possible 5 year extension if passed by a scrutineer. • Neil McCrudden also talked about different styles of seat belts available.CAMS NEWS: reported by Paul Bartlett• State Council Meeting & AGM & Election of officers bearers has been held and results:• Chairperson - Nick Rahimtulla was returned against Michael Henderson
5
• Board Member – Lyndon Sperring against Ed Farrar.• Eugene Arocca CEO from CAMS Melbourne was present and he gave an interesting
presentation and it is hoped that Actions follow the words given. He also reported that CAMS has committed $2 million of members money to purchase 20 Formula Ford cars to help develop motor sport in general.• Historic Commissioner – Mr John van Leeuwin reported on importance of HANS devices
and also reported on FUEL specifically E85 for historic cars is now OFF the banned list. Also that regulations regarding 5th category cars is being reviewed.9. Competition Committee: Ross Oxwell • Lake Perkolilli - All on track 29 cars entered, 24 pre war motor bikes and a collection of
bicycles and 2 penny-farthings along with aircraft. Overall all shaping up to be a great social weekend.• Stampede 30th November 2014 - Entries will be out soon as Closing date is: 31 October
2014• Still need a full organising Committee and volunteers of all sorts to help run the event.
Please contact Paul Bartlett if you wish to help your club run this event It has been decided not to run the RELAY this year, and looking for Ideas on something different that can be run to make it a fun day, again if you have any ideas please contact Paul Bartlett. (number in front of magazine)10. Social Committee: Wally Phoebe• Sunday 5 October trip to Ron West’s Motor Museum was mind blowing re number of
restored and working cars he has. A pity a few more members did not take advantage of the day.• A Sundowner Sunday night 16 November at Caversham. A singer has been arranged and

Ian Clegg and boys who helped install them.• Caversham car still a project in motion and next work day for it is Sat 11th October.• Painting around the building has started and roller doors have been started on.• Dad’s Army Xmas show is planned and all members are invited, details to follow.12. General Business:Henry Oosterbaan brought along some fire extinguishers to be used for our “how to use a fire
extinguisher” night for when it gets planned. CAMS DRUG POLICY: It is highly recommended that ALL members check out the website and if in

SOCIAL NOTESSundowner – 16th November
Something new, we are offering members and guests to join us in a “sundowner” which is set for Sunday afternoon November 16 at the club rooms starting about 3 pm.Background entertainment will be provided by a singer who will entertain us with a range
of songs from the 1960s through to the 1990s.You are to provide your own nibbles and/or food but will be asked to purchase drinks from
the bar to comply with liquor licencing. There is a barbeque there, (BYO).Concessional licenced vehicles can be used to get you there and you can leave whenever
you like so that vehicles can be driven in daylight. It would be good to see some vehicles that you usually leave in a garage so people can wander around and view them. There will a small charge to overcome a few costs with getting the singer there but
hopefully not more than ten dollars per family. Any profit can be distributed at the discretion of the Club.

Ladies Wine Tasting Christmas Meeting in December Back again by popular demand is the Ladies Wine Tasting Christmas Meeting on the 1st
December. It’s a great opportunity to involve your partners and wives in the goings on of the club and
celebrate with your fellow members the festive season. All ladies receive a complimentary glass of sparkling wine on arrival! We are keeping it all in the Swan Valley - this year a local Swan Valley winery, Sittella’s, will be presenting a selection of their range for tastings and they will take orders for anyone interested in buying wine for their Christmas get togethers. As well as this, the ever popular nougat from Mondo’s in the Swan Valley will be available to taste and purchase. So please come along and enjoy a lovely evening at the clubhouse from 7pm. The final general meeting will follow the tastings and a light supper will be served at the end of the night. We are also looking for suggestions for a Guest Speaker on the night.
