INTRODUCTION

Letter from the Director Dear Prospective Student, Most of us have been taught that education is important because we should be prepared for our future. As a Christian, we know that our spiritual future is of higher value than our physical future. The Bible teaches us that our life is just a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. We should want to make the most of our life for Jesus because only the things we do for Him will make a difference for eternity. By enrolling at CCBC, Philippines, you are making an important decision today for your future. If you want to grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus, have a better understanding of God’s Word and want to be better equipped for serving Jesus in the ministry, then prayerfully consider attending our school. The school teaches the entire Word of God from Genesis to Revelation by using the Inductive Bible Study Method. The Bible is our textbook and the Holy Spirit is our teacher. You will also build friendships, learn about cross-cultural relationships, and develop your spiritual gifts to be prepared for God’s calling on your life. Expect to be transformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ by the power of His Spirit working through His Word, and the lives of other believers. May God give you His wisdom and direction for your future and may you be obedient to His voice. Grace and Peace, Ptr. Gospel Gayaden Director, CCBC/CCTC

GENERAL INFORMATION PURPOSE & VISION “To train and equip servants of God for effective & fruitful ministry, fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This vision was an offshoot of an initial vision (by Pastor Dan Finfrock of Intensive Care Ministries of Asia, circa 1986‐93) to train and equip Filipino and other Asian pastors and workers on how to study the Bible verse by verse using the Inductive Bible Study Method. When Pastor John Michaels, took over the ministry, sometime in 1994, it became Calvary Chapel Training Center. The following year, CCTC founded CCBC Philippines with the larger vision of not just training and equipping young men and women but actually seeing them start new churches and ministries in partnership with the expanding Calvary Chapels in the Philippines. In the 20 years of CCBC Philippines’ existence, we have seen many new churches and missionary work start and develop as direct fruit of the ministry. Today, under the helm of new leadership (Pastor Jimmy Morales of CC Lone Mountain), we further envision being used by the Lord in the further equipping of workers from a larger spectrum of Christian churches in anticipation of the greater harvest before the Lord Jesus returns. AFFILIATION Calvary Chapel Bible College is a non-denominational institution and a ministry SEND THE MESSAGE of Calvary Chapel Lone Mountain and Calvary Chapel Spring Valley. All members of the Bible College staff are employees of Calvary Chapel Lone Mountain, registered in the Philippines as Calvary Chapel Training Center.

DOCTRINAL STATEMENT The following doctrinal statement of faith governs the teaching at Calvary Chapel Bible College. I. Scripture We believe the Bible (i.e., the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments) is the Word of God, comprises the totality of Holy Scripture, is verbally inspired and inerrant in the original text, remains inerrant and infallible in all its substance, and is sufficient for salvation and sanctification. Therefore, it is the supreme, final, and authoritative standard for faith, theology, and life. We seek to teach the Word of God in such a way that its message can be applied to an individual’s life, leading that person to greater maturity in Christ. (CCBC affirms the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy) II. Historicity We believe in the full historicity and perspicuity of the biblical record of primeval history, including the literal existence of Adam and Eve as the progenitors of all people, the literal fall in the Garden of Eden and resultant divine curse on creation, the worldwide cataclysmic deluge, and the origin of the nations and languages at the tower of Babel. III. God We believe that the triune God eternally exists in one essence and three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; that He is essentially Spirit, personal, transcendent, sovereign, life, love, truth, almighty, simple (i.e., essentially one without parts), timelessly eternal, unchangeable, wise, just, holy, relational, pure actuality, dynamic, infallible in all things, including His foreknowledge of all future decisions and events, and that He created the heavens and the earth in six literal days. IV. Jesus Christ We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, possessing two distinct natures which are co-joined in one person; that He was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless and miraculous life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious substitutionary death on the Cross, was physically resurrected in the same body that was buried in the tomb by the power of the Holy Spirit; that Jesus Christ physically ascended back to the right hand of God the Father in heaven, and ever lives to make intercession for us. After Jesus ascended to Heaven, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the gospel to the entire world, an obligation shared by all believers today. (CCBC affirms the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds). V. Holy Spirit We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead who seals, indwells, sanctifies, baptizes, teaches, empowers, reveals, and guides the believer into all truth. The Holy Spirit gives gifts to whom He wills, which are valid for today, and ought to be exercised within scriptural guidelines. We as believers are to earnestly desire the best gifts, seeking to exercise them in love that the whole Body of Christ might be edified. We believe that love is more important than the most spectacular gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless.

VI. Mankind We believe that man is created in the image of God; however, after the fall of Adam and Eve, all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are offered as a free gift by the Lord Jesus Christ to all based on His grace alone. When a person repents of sin and receives Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord. VII. Salvation Salvation is initiated, attained, and procured by God through the death of Christ on the cross for our sins and His resurrection from the dead. The salvation Christ offers is available to all, and is received freely by grace alone and through faith in Christ alone, apart from good works, thereby justifying and sealing the believer once and for all. VIII. The Church The universal Church is an organic body composed of all believers, both living and dead, who have been sealed by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. The church has the responsibility to worship the Lord and share the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection to the world, making disciples, baptizing believers, and teaching them to observe sound doctrine and live a morally pure life. We believe church government should be simple rather than a complex bureaucracy, with the utmost dependence upon the Holy Spirit to lead, rather than on fleshly promotion or worldly wisdom. The Lord has given the church two ordinances which are to continue until He returns — adult baptism by immersion and Holy Communion. Water baptism is not necessary for salvation, and cannot remove sins, but is a picture of the salvation already received by the believer. We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s sacrificialagape love, which is greater than any secondary differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. IX. Worship We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship. We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship. We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our gatherings are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped. We believe the worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have been truly worshiping God in spirit and truth. X. Christ’s Return We await the pre-tribulation rapture of the church and the second coming of Christ which will be physical, personal, visible, and pre-millennial. This motivates us to evangelism, holy living, heart-felt worship, committed service, diligent study of God’s Word, and regular fellowship. XI. Eternity We believe those who are saved by Jesus Christ will spend eternity with Christ in heaven in a conscious state of blessedness, reward, and satisfaction; that those who do not personally receive the finished work of Christ by faith will spend eternity separated from God in a state of conscious torment.

XII. Satan We believe there is a real personal devil of great malevolence, cunning, and power, who seeks to deceive, tempt, kill, steal and destroy, yet his power is limited by God to only what God permits him to do; that the devil has been defeated positionally at the cross of Christ, and will be defeated practically at Christ’s glorious second coming which will eventuate in the permanent quarantine and punishment of the Devil, Beast, and False Prophet, in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. XIII. We Reject: (1) The belief that true Christians can be demon possessed and are helpless against the craft and wiles of the Devil; (2) any philosophy or theology which denies that human freewill can be exercised in the receiving of Christ’s free gift of salvation; specifically, we reject the belief that Jesus’ atonement was limited in its extent, instead, we believe that He died for all unrighteous people and that any perceived limitation rests in one’s free rejection of Christ’s finished work of atonement, and we reject the assertion that God’s wooing grace cannot be resisted or that He has elected some people to go to hell; instead we believe that anyone who wills to come to Christ may do so freely as a result of the Holy Spirit’s conviction and wooing persuasion of the heart; (3) “positive confession,” (e.g., the Faith Movement, that views faith as a force that can create one’s own reality or that God can be commanded to heal or work miracles according to man’s will and faith); (4) human prophecy that supersedes or is contrary to Scripture; (5) any introduction of psychology and philosophy which is contrary to Scripture and is in substance “according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ” into biblical teaching; (6) “Open Theism” or “Freewill Theism” which reduces God’s timeless, unchanging, dynamic nature, and exhaustive foreknowledge of future free decisions, to creaturely modes of being and operation; (7) the “Emergent Church” movement insofar as it departs from the historic orthodox Christian doctrines in favor of postmodernism, and (8) the overemphasis of spiritual gifts, experiential signs and wonders to the exclusion of biblical teaching. CAMPUS GROUNDS & FACILITY The facility occupies a 2.1- hectare land which is equipped with both men’s and women’s dormitories, guest dormitory, staff houses, a conference center, a multi-purpose hall, classrooms, and maintained landscaping. Other Ongoing Classes Chapel All students enrolled in the Academic Track are required to attend these classes. Practical Christian Ministry All students are required to attend this class for four semesters Academic Dishonesty

• If a student uses another person’s ideas, words, models to pass a course (plagiarism). • If a student uses notes and tests of previous students to gain advantage in his/her assignments. • If a student uses any COMMENTARY for his observation, interpretation and application of his

charting notebook. Then the student will face disciplinary action and will be under probation as stated in the Student Guidelines.

Academic Standards & Attendance The First Semester (Spring Semester) covers 18 weeks while the Second Semester (Fall Semester) covers 20 weeks. First year students will participate in a one-week Evangelism Outreach and the Second-year students will participate in a one-week Missions Outreach. The cost of the outreaches is included in the tuition. We do not offer elective classes per se, so all classes are considered required. If a student has already taken classes elsewhere, the school may give credit for the class and give alternate assignments. The class schedule is modular, so we only offer one class at a time. A one-week class is equivalent to 1 credit and that is 15 hours of time spent in class. Grading The grading system of the campus is patterned after the Bible College in Murrieta. Since the school uses their Student Database as the record keeping software, the school abides to the use of both letter grades and grade point that counts toward a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). This standard grading system makes it easier for foreign students to transfer credits from our campus to the main.

STUDENT LIFE

Here at CCBC, students are to develop a sense of humility and service towards the church and community. At times, this would mean being the servant of all, that is – being “bottom of the bottom”, taking our Lord Jesus as our greatest example. As leaders, you are expected to take responsibility and to teach others to do so. You must become the one who answers for yourself and those whom you serve.

In the Old Testament the Law was given to Moses to teach people how to live. The law was a tutor that pointed to the perfection of Christ. We, as New Testament believers, are indwelt with the Holy Spirit and are no longer bound to the letter of the law. However, there are times when we find that we need a “tutor” to instruct us in how we should live. Let the following guidelines lead you to a lifestyle of godliness and purity while you are here at the Bible School. HOUSE RULES A. Dorm

1. Keep your area of the dorm clean. From time to time, we have visitors who would want to visit your dorms.

2. Do not use anyone’s personal belongings without explicit permission. If something is left and you don’t know who owns it, it’s still not yours, so don’t use it. (ex. razor)

3. Doors should be closed at ALL times or mosquitoes will enter. Be aware that we have rampant cases of dengue fever in the city.

4. Students should be in the dorms by 10:00 PM unless they have obtained permission from their dorm steward/campus supervisor. If studying after 10 PM, women students should only be in the classroom near the MPR, and men students in the upper classroom of the Dining Hall. The PAYAG can only be used before 9 PM and after 5 AM.

5. No women are allowed in or around the men’s dorm. No men are allowed in or around the women’s dorm.

6. Respect each other’s privacy. Do not use other student’s bunk space either for sleeping or putting of things.

7. Keep clean. Maintain proper hygiene — take a bath daily, wash your hands before and after work, and before meals. Brush your teeth.

8. Keep your clothes clean. Keep used clothing in your laundry basket, not anywhere else. Consider the health and well-being of others.

9. Separate laundry areas for men and women are provided. Laundry Days: Friday Afternoon until Sunday Afternoon only.

10. Conserve electricity and water. Turn off lights when not in use. Report pipe leaks, if any, to Bible College staff.

11. Kitchen dishes should NOT be stored in the dorms except for your utensils that you’re asked to keep by yourself.

Page 25: GENERAL CATALOG 2015-2016 - CCBC Dumaguete Philippinesccbcdumaguete.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/CCBCD... · 2020-05-13 · 2 general catalog 2015-2016 km.6 palinpinon road candauay,

if you need them. 15. Respect QUIET TIMES — 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM DAILY. No playing of loud music or musical instrument

Honor Code THEREFORE— Let it be understood that each student is responsible to uphold this higher code of honor. A code of honor

which honors the Lord and which honors this school. Let it be understood that every student is expected to uphold the truth in every aspect of their lives— on

or off this campus— not just study about the truth. Let it be understood that this honor code means no untruthfulness or dishonesty of any sort— such as

lying, cheating, or cover- ing–up for others who do so, or any other dishonorable behav- ior— will be tolerated or accepted, and when discovered will be grounds for immediate dismissal from this school.

Let us serve the Lord with a clear conscience, with a desire to live honorably in every way (Hebrews 13:18)— in this way we shall be a true, living testimony of our Lord Jesus— not just in word, but in deed.

Moral and Ethical Conduct A. If you are aware of behavior that violates the Honor Code in the life of a fellow student:

1. Pray for direction and guidance. 2. Confront the individual involved immediately. 3. If the behavior continues, or happens again, report it immediately to an appropriate staff

member. B. If you are involved in behavior that violates the Honor Code:

1. Repent. 2. Confess and forsake the sin. 3. Be willing to abide by the restoration guidelines given to you by the staff.

C. Those who do the above will be counseled and forgiven. Those who do not may be asked to leave CCBC-P immediately. Failing to confront and /or report immoral behavior is an offense equally as bad as committing the behavior yourself.

Love Your Neighbor Your relationships in school and the community should reflect the love of Jesus. Be polite, considerate, think of others first, and have a servant’s heart.

1. Pray for one another. 2. No profanity or inappropriate language which dishonors God is allowed in the campus. Stealing is prohibited. Taking things without asking

Counseling/Advice If you need prayer or help in a specific area, see a Bible School staff member.
