Easy method optimization with DoESomewhere out there, there’s an optimal purification method for your protein. Design of Experiments (DoE) is a powerful tool that saves you days of work finding that method with established optimization methods based on scouting. DoE helps to generate faster success with fewer experiments and sample, whilst applying statistical methods to validate the results. DoE significantly reduces development time by providing the most relevant information from a minimum number of

experiments. In only 16 runs, you get the same level of information that would have needed 128 runs. This is a giant leap in lab productivity, saving your time and your research grant. Moreover, the rapid workflow frees up the system for other important research work.

The editor that saves you workSave work with easy and flexible method creation and cut the learning curve in half. Thanks to the new Method Editor in the UNICORN™ 6 software, you can create and edit your own method from predefined methods for tried and trusted chromatography techniques and maintenance procedures. Method creation and editing is simply done by using the intuitive drag and drop interface. What’s more, full programming control is still available for the advanced user.

Start mixing in the right circlesBufferPro is a completely automated, advanced on-line buffer preparation that can save 30 minutes per buffer and pH-value. It increases speed and the reliability of results by eliminating the time-consuming manual buffer preparation and titration usually needed for every pH change in chromatography.

BufferPro reduces chemical waste by preparing stock solutions that can be stored and used repeatedly. BufferPro also features true buffer preparation using conjugated acid/base solutions for titration. BufferPro is great to use when optimizing pH. It mimics manual buffer preparation and works with all common buffers.

When precision is a real necessity

Valves take care of businessThe components used in ÄKTA avant have been designed so that the time needed to manage hardware is kept at a minimum. Up to fifteen columns can be connected to the column valves for automatic column scouting. A completely new pH valve enables convenient on-line calibration and storage of the pH electrode. Reverse flow functionality increases yields when using absorption techniques and eases column cleaning.

Your columns are safe when the pressure is onOverpressurizing columns is a risky scenario. With the new delta pressure (Δp) sensors, the column and its valuable medium are protected. When pressure approaches preset limits, flow rate is automatically decreased.

Maximum uptimeOne of the most critical steps in a multiuser environment is turning the instrument around from one purification task to another. With previous systems, this could take hours. With ÄKTA avant, turnaround takes minutes, tubes and connectors are quickly cleaned, and column changes take seconds. ÄKTA avant sample and system pumps run independently, giving the possibility to run for example column cleaning simultaneously with a purification method. With re-plumbing out of the way, you can save a day’s work per week.

Chill out with chilled samplesIs your sample so precious, that you are prepared to sit and nurse the system night and day to extract your target? ÄKTA avant cares for your protein as well as you would. The cooled fraction collector maintains the integrity of temperature

sensitive proteins, prevents evaporation and excludes dust. A variety of cassettes accommodate samples from 3 ml – 50 ml, and deep well plates for convenient sample transfer to the next stage of processing. ÄKTA avant employs DropSync and an accumulator for spillage free fractionation at all flow rates.

Giant ergonomic leapBench space is a precious resource. For all its increased performance and functionality, ÄKTA avant actually takes less space than ÄKTAexplorer™, thanks to the inbuilt fraction collector. The status display informs you of the current instrument and method state and allows the run to quickly be paused or continued. Components have similar geometry, allowing modules to be quickly exchanged. The swivel foot allows you to comfortably access all working areas.
