SATURDAY, MAY 20, 2017 LOCAL KUWAIT: A GCC conference yesterday called for implementing national poli- cies, strategies and plans on occupation- al health and safety. The fifth GCC con- ference on occupational health and safety, that started on Tuesday, was organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the health ministries of the GCC member states. The recommendations sum up the outcome of the conference seeking to apply, and promote, occupational health in the GCC countries, said president of the conference Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti. Al-Shatti stressed the necessity of linking the occupational health strate- gies to the Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He noted that the conference also called for draw- ing up a plan of the hazards of occupa- tional health, besides regularly follow- ing up the application of the relevant GCC strategy and the guidelines of the international conventions on chronic non-communicable diseases. In addition, participants stressed the need to set up industrial medical centers and form task teams at the occupational health departments in the GCC states. The would-be centers will analyze the hazards of occupational health and identify work priorities, which is expect- ed to help a lot to counter problems, Al- Shatti noted. —KUNA GCC conference calls for boosting safety concepts Conference seeks to promote occupational health in Gulf IRBIL: Relief teams have handed over 1,500 food parcels, provided by Kuwait Relief Society, to relocated Iraqis settling in locations outside shantytowns in the province of Al-Sulaimaniya. Dr Omar Al-Kanderi, the general consul in Irbil, affirmed in a statement to KUNA that the necessary supplies were given to the displaced as part of the State of Kuwait humanitarian cam- paign, “Kuwait on your side.” Kuwaiti diplomats, in coordination with local philanthropists, distributed the parcels to the Iraqis who have been settling in locations outside the refugee camps. Al-Kanderi said the aid was given in line with the humanitarian initiative by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced Iraqis. Meanwhile, Saleh Mehdi Yousuf, in charge of public relations at the local relief association, “Ronahe,” indicated in remarks to KUNA that the relocated, settled at regions outside the camps, get much less aid as compared to the assistance that reach their compatriots inside the shantytowns. He noted that the volunteers, who split into two groups, opened two sprawling mosques funded by Kuwaiti philanthropists and doled out largess to needy families. This came during the visit to the Asian nation by Sheikh Meshaal and his accompanying delegation, where he met with Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry S Aswaran and Singaporean Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Defense Dr Mohammed Malik bin Othman. They also met with the Economic Development Board, the Accounting and Regulatory Authority and the International Foundation in Singapore. Sheikh Meshaal also participated in a forum on the investment environ- ment in the State of Kuwait at the headquarters of the Singapore Business Federation. For his part, Kuwait Ambassador of Singapore, Yacoub Al-Sind, praised the vis- it, and Singaporean experience of attracting foreign investment was recognized. The Kuwaiti side explained the steps taken by Kuwait to facilitate the work of foreign companies planning to work in Kuwait.
