Literacy Night & Book Exchange A Great Success! We had quite a few attendees at our Literacy Night and Book Exchange on Tuesday evening. There was a wealth of wondebooks for the children to select! Many thanks to the chairperson, Merav Talmor for all of her hard work. Kids Can't Grow Up Responsibly If Parents Don't Show Them HowYou probably know some people who've never quite grown up. They may have jobs, but never seem to be able to live on thown.

One reason may be that they didn't learn how to take on the responsibilities of adult life. Their parents may not have taugthem the skills they need--to balance a budget or to take care of basic life skills like cooking or doing laundry.

If you want your child to grow up and live as an independent adult, you need to start teaching him those skills today. Here asome ways you can help your child develop the habits that will get him ready for adult life:

    * Expect him to get himself up in the morning. Even a first grader can learn to wake up to an alarm.* Teach him to care for his own clothes. Young children can put clothes in the laundry basket. They can fold their oclothes and put them away. Older kids can learn how to do laundry.* Help him manage money. Whether it's an allowance or payment for extra chores, teach your child the value of savin* Enlist his help. Every family member should do something that helps out the family. Young children can set the tabOlder kids can learn how to prepare a simple meal. When they do these things, thank them for making your home rmore smoothly.* Volunteer. Make time for your family to volunteer together. Doing something for others builds responsibility.

Committee Seats FeaturedOver the next several weeks, as we fill our Committee Seats for next year, I will be featuring some of the open PTApositions with information regarding the responsibilities. Hopefully, this will be helpful information and will make iteasier for you to understand what is needed to do the job .

Fall Celebration Chair- The Fall Celebration is a two hour free event with equal parent and teacherinvolvement featuring activity booths, games, a bake sale, pumpkin sale, and lots of fun. It is a bigfavorite for the kids! Primary Role - The Fall Celebration chair time frame is from late September to MidOctober. You will enlist volunteers, organize the teachers, parents and some 5th grade students for thevarious booths. You will have the experience of Merav Talmor, who has run this event for the past few yearsto assist you. Most of the booth activities are ready to go. This position takes about 20-25 hours over a 3-4

week time period. This is a very special event for parents and children alike!

Garden Gate PTA Membership Committee ChairPrimary Role: You will be responsible for all things regarding Garden Gate PTA membership:

Membership goals, promotion of and education about the PTA to parents. Also included is collectingthe completed forms, counting the dues, and reporting membership to our Council level PTA. You willsometimes need to be present at various events when we have opportunities to promote PTA membershipAlong with the treasurer, you ensure that the council portion of the dues get paid to the Council level PTA.Your duties are busiest at the beginning of the year from August through October, but continue throughout tyear. Approximate number of hours annually: 30 hours.

I hope you will give these positions serious thought. The Fall Celebration is too much fun to cancel due to lack volunteers and the PTA Membership is an important position that helps to make the PTA operate so we can bring oassistance to our Gators.
