Big panel. Below them as they come down the hill, on a crumbling, weed-

choked airstrip, is an airplane that would be an antique now. In the time this

story is set its worse than an antique. At the end of the airstrip is a line of

    fairly tall trees.

    4. Jillian: Its an airplane.

    5. Lester: Are you sure?

    2. Lester: You were robbed.

    Panel Two.

    She faces him, serious now.

    3. Jillian: (a) In my business, Lester, you always leave yourself a way

    out. Of anything.

    (b) You dont think youll ever have to use it. You hope you

    dont.

    (c) But you hang on to it just the same.

    Panel Three.

    Panel Five.

Hes sufficiently chastised, gaze down, eyes hooded.

    7. Lester: (a) Thats what I was just going to ask. Jillian. Are you

    (b) And why?

She climbs into the cockpit as he gets in next to her.

    8. Jillian: Would you be able to fly this thing?

    5. SFX: CHUGCHUGGACHVVVRRRMM

    6. Jillian: (a) There we go.

    (b) The beauty of this is that theres no way the HIA would

have bothered to plant a bug or a camera on it.

    7. Lester: Because they didnt think it could fly either?

    Panel Four.

Exterior shot as the plane taxis down the runway.

    PAGE THIRTEEN

    Panel One.

The plane rolls down the runway, picking up speed but still not airborne.

    1. Lester (from plane): Shouldnt we be flying soon?

    2. Jillian (from plane): Quiet.

    Panel Two.

Back inside the little cockpit. Jillian is pulling the wheel toward herself, or

trying to, and straining a bit from the effort.

    3. Jillian: Were going fast enough

    Panel Three.

Shes pulling back on the wheel, starting to sweat now.

    4. Lester: I think thats the problem.

    5. Jillian: You dont want to pull back too sharply, because that

launches you too steeply and almost guarantees a stall.

    Panel Four.

Lesters looking out the windshield at the trees bunched at the end of the

    strip.

    6. Lester: But those trees

    Panel Five.

Jillian snaps at him but keeps her eyes front.

    7. Jillian: I see the trees!

Exterior, as the wheels leave the airstrip.

    No dialogue.

    Panel Two.

Inside, Jillian is smiling anxiously. Lester has his hands planted on his seat,

afraid to touch the wheel thats moving by itself in front of him.

    1. Jillian: Now were in business.

    Panel Three.

Lester doesnt want to say anything but he cant help it.

    2. Lester: Those trees

    Panel Four.

Two shot. Jillian glances his way. Theyre rising sharply now, so indicate

    that in the layout.

    3. Jillian: I said I see the trees.

    4. Lester: So do I. In far too much detail.

    Panel Five.

Reverse angle so we can see out the windshield. Theyre still rising steeply, but the trees are RIGHT THERE in front of them.

    5. Jillian: Youre not helping.

    1. Jillian: There. Didnt I tell you wed be fine?
