HOME STRUCTURE AND FAMILY STRUCTURE

Multisided, usually hexagonal, wooden building Mud as roof Called the Hogan Men were hunters , warriors, and political leaders Women were farmers, tended livestock, child care, and did the cooking

Sheep, corn, small cakes, mush, bread/blue bread, large corn cakes, beef, pancakes, blue dumplings, homing, squash, melons, yucca banana, wax currant, sumac berry, wolfberry, juniper berry They were hunters, gathers, and farmers

CLOTHING AND TOOLS

They wore deerskin, cotton, velvet, no collars, britches below the knee, moccasins, squaw dress made of plain dark blankets, loggings, sash belts, fur coats They used bear bones to peel off corn husk, bow and arrows, spears, rawhide shields, wooden hoes, spindles, looms ( for weaving ), and pump drills ( to put holes in beads )

RELIGIOUS BELIEFS AND COMMUNICATIONBelieved that the creator (god) placed them on land between four

sacred mountains Americans believe that they find very difficult to speak the Navajo language Over 150,000 Navajo people still speak their own language (yah-ah-t-ay) means hello in their language
