Cutting and Layout:• Cut 1 hanger shape each of fabric, lining fusible interfacing and vinyl • Cut 1 body of the garment bag - 24” x 24”• Cut 2 bottom section - 12” x 21”• Cut 1 shoe pocket lining - 9” x 21”• Cut 1 shoe pocket front - 9” x 14”• Cut 2 shoe pocket side extensions 4” x 9”

Hanger Section:• Press the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the hanger shape fabric. Layer the

fused fabric, vinyl and lining as shown and stitch around the outer edge. Turn inside out and finger press. (Do NOT touch the vinyl with the hot iron.)

• Press away from the zipper teeth. • On the right side, stitch decorative ribbon down both edges of the zipper.

Shoe Pocket and Bottom of the Bag:• Set up the machine for embroidery. Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the

pocket front and place in the hoop with additional pieces of tear away stabilizer underneath.

• Embroider the letters. I used the Cheltenham font in the large size.

• Then tear away one layer of the stabilizer on the back side of the embroidery.• Stitch the side extensions onto the front pocket and top stitch the ribbon over the

seam if desired.

• Stitch the second zipper right sides together with the shoe pocket front. Leave the extra length of the zipper extended beyond the pocket. (This will be cut to fit later.) Place the right side of the pocket lining to the wrong side of the zipper tape and stitch all three layers.

• Press the lining to the wrong side of the pocket, being careful not to melt the zipper teeth.

• Stitch one edge of the ribbon to the remaining zipper tape.

• Cut a length of ribbon approximately 10” long and place it in the center of the bottom back as shown.

• Slide the zipper open and now cut off the excess zipper tape.

• Place the remaining button back right sides together and stitch down one side across the bottom and up the other side, leaving the top edge open.

• Turn inside out and press.

• The two sides and across the bottom of the bag should be finished with the top edge open.

Assemble the Garment Bag:• Place the right side of the center of the bag over the bottom with the shoe pocket

and stitch around the circle, attaching the center to the bottom.

• Now attach the hanger part to the middle of the bag, right sides together, and sew around the circle. You may have to use some tissue against the vinyl so that the foot will not stitch to the vinyl or use the Janome Teflon foot.

• Mark the center top with grommet template, cut the hole and snap the grommet through the hole. If grommets are not used, leave an opening in the seam for the hangers to feed through.
