Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) was established under

Companies Act in the year 1986-87 and is a non-profit organisation, with an object

to promote, support, protect, maintain and increase the export of handicrafts. It is

an apex body of handicrafts exporters for promotion of exports of Handicrafts

from country and projected India's image abroad as a reliable supplier of high

quality of handicrafts goods & services and ensured various meausres keeping in

view of of observance of international standards and specification. The Council

has created necessary infrastructure as well as marketing and information

facilities, which are availed both by the members exporters and importers. The

Council is engaged in promotion of handicrafts from India and project India's

image abroad as a reliable supplier of high quality handicrafts.

The Council is run and managed by team of professionals headed by Executive

Director. The Committee of Administration consists of eminent exporters,

professionals. The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts has a rarest

distinction of being considered as MODEL COUNCIL that is self-sustaining and

where all the promotional activities are self-financed.

Council's continued pursuit of excellence and the objective of achieving the

hallmark of quality assurance by extending excellent services to all the members

and stake holders has led the Council to become an ISO 9001 : 2000 certified

organization.

The handicrafts industry has over the years contributed significantly to the employment

and foreign exchequer of the country. , handicrafts sector is an important employment

generative sector engaging over 7 million artisans belonging to weaker sections of the

society including women folk. In addition to the high potential for employment, the

sector is highly labour intensive and decentralized being spread all over the country in

rural and urban areas. India is a multi-culture country and each state contributing through

one or more crafts and demand of the handicrafts products in the domestic as wells as

international market is varied and huge .

In order to bridge the gap between marketing & promotion, office of Development

Commissioner (Handicrafts ), Ministry of Textiles , Govt. of India through marketing

support & services scheme is making an effort to enhance the access of artisans and

exporters to various market and creating an awareness about handicrafts amongst

consumers & public at large both in domestic and international market .To provide the

direct marketing outlets to the craftsperson living in far flung, remote and hilly areas by

inviting them for participation in various marketing events/bazars in different cities for

augmenting their sales. Gandhi Shilp Bazar provides the direct marketing platform to the

artisans/SHGs/entrepreneurs from various parts of the country to promote their products

and make sales. Gandhi Shilp Bazar is organized in different cities of the country.

Narsapur is an important location from the point of concentration of artisans, craft

persons, producers and exporting community of lace products. International Lace Trade

Center (ILTC) is developed by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts with the

support of O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for the promotion of this mega

cluster. International Lace Trade Centre (ILTC) is an state of art venue located at

Narsapur comprising sales outlet, Open air Theatre, Administration Block , Conference

Halls/ Meeting Rooms, exhibition halls, Auditorium, Buyer/ Designer Guest House,

Kitchen & Dining to name a few facilities. It will provide market development and

promotion activities with a view to create greater market exposure for the Cluster

artisans, exporters and entrepreneurs. The focus will be on enterprise development in the

Cluster, thereby providing opportunities to the local artisans groups and small

manufacturers to scale up business operations.

In an effort to provide direct access and trap the local domestic market Export Promotion

Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) organised the Gandhi Shilp Bazar at Narsapur. The

event is planned during this period keeping in view the Godavari Maha Pushkaralu (14-

24 July, 2015) , which happens

once in 12 year in this region .

During this period the

movement of the public and

visitors from other parts of the

south India is very high. As

such, Gandhi Shilp Bazar - a

exhibition-cum –sale event is

organized from 13 – 22 July, 2015 at International Lace Trade Centre, Rustumbada,

Narsapur, sponsored by O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of

Textiles, Govt. of India. This event will provide an excellent opportunity to the artisans

who came here to display from all parts of the country to make the direct sale to the

consumers.

Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts is organized Gandhi Shilp Bazar at Narsapur from

13th to 22nd July 2015 was formally inaugurated on July 15, 2015 at International Lace Trade

Centre, Rustumbada, Narsapur, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh.

The Gandhi Shilp Bazar was inaugurated by the chief guest Shri Samir Kumar Biswas, IAS,

Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) along with Shri Rakesh Kumar, Executive

President, All India Lace Exporter Association, member exporters, Lace association members

and all artisans. In his welcome address he said that, ILTC is the jewel of Narsapur and

events such as Gandhi shilp bazaar will not only increase the marker but also provides a

moral boost to the artisans and exporters.

The exhibition-cum-sale event started with the lamp lighting.

Shri Rakesh Kumar addressed the gathering and informed that the ILTC is the one of its kind

facility not only in Andhra Pradesh but in entire South India in such a huge area. He also said

EPCH will initiate many

more activities in

Narsapur area in the

coming time such as

initiating skill program

in East and West

Godavari. He also

mentioned that they are

considering to set-up a

Dyeing unit at Narsapur

because people from

Narsapur area have to travel a long distance for dyeing purpose. He also requested to the

exporters, NGO, artisans to form a working committee to run the ILTC effectively and act as

an active stakeholder. He also mentioned that we have to make ILTC not only as a national

lace hub but as international hub.

In his inaugural address Mr. Samir Kumar Biswas, IAS, Development Commissioner

(Handicrafts) informed that O/o DC(H) will provide all support to this sector to compete in

the international market

and facilities at ILTC

should be utilized by

every artisans and support

ILTC to become as a

national hub . He

suggested that Narsapur

lace should work in the

direction to obtain GI

CERTIFICATION. GI

Certification will provide a new and bigger brand image at both national and international

level and soon there will be training programs in east and west Godavari. Mr. Biswas also

mentioned that there is huge demand of lace product in domestic market so we need to focus

on that.

The event started with the ribbon

cutting by the chief guest, after

that they made a visit to all the

shops and interacted with the

artisans and shown a great interest in the products on display. He appreciated the way the

shops are made and the facilities available. On the occasion Shri Biswas and Shri Rakesh

Kumar made a tree plantation.

space at ILTC on the request of

the President, All India Lace

Exporter Association for the

First time this kind of

mega event organized

in this location which

was appreciated by all

age group of people.

This 10 days event

becomes a hotspot for

many people for every

day. People from

Narsapur, Palakol,

Bhimavaram and from

many other places visited to the event.

Due to the Pushkara Mela lakhs of people visited Narsapur and they were not being able

to resist visiting the event and enjoyed the same. This event attracted thousands of people

from many places.

Event concluded on 22nd

July 2015 with the hope for organizing such event in future.

69 exhibitors/artisans from 13 States of India participated in the events

More than 50 crafts displayed during the event.

Most attractive items were, handloom & textiles, Jewellery, Sandal wood

products, Terracotta product, wooden toys, paintings, etc.

Aprox. total sale at the end of the event was Rs. 11,50,000.00

Live sketching by one of the artisans attracted many visitors.

Free transportation facilities arranged for the visitors from Narsapur Railway

Station, Bus Stand and Ferry Point (Godavari Ghat)

Free accommodation facilities to all the exhibitors/artisans during the events

The Council has done extensive promotion campaign utilizes a range of communication

channels, such as Placing of hoardings, banners, Mike announcement in city and

adjoining area, pamphlets distribution through newspaper and volunteer , TV

advertisement, Newspaper advertisement and blog.
