FSU alums supporting new chaptersThere have only been three new BPM

chapters inducted in the last 20 years. We are very proud that two FSU alumni have been a part of their creation and support.

As faculty advisor, former Gamma President Linda Most, now an assistant professor at Valdosta State University, has supported the recently created Beta Beta Mu Chapter. We are grateful for Linda’s past

service to Gamma and her continued service to Beta Phi Mu.

This year, FSU alumna Sheri Ross, assistant professor at St. Catherine University in Minnesota, was responsible for the creation of the Beta Beta Xi Chapter of Beta Phi Mu. We honor Sheri, as an FSU alumna, for her service and leadership and wish her and the Beta Beta Xi Chapter the utmost success.

Full plate of events at Annual Meeting Building on the success of last year,

the Gamma Chapter 54th Annual Meeting and Evening of Events on Friday, Nov. 18, looks to be another celebration for the mind and spirit. Open to all Beta Phi Mu members, the alumni, students, and faculty of FSU-SLIS, it’s taking place in the Goldstein Library of the Louis Shores Building, home of the School of Library and Information Studies on the FSU campus.

Our Annual Meeting and Initiation in the Goldstein’s Gregory Conference Room (4:00 p.m.), is open to all, but only current chapter members may vote. Enjoy a simulcast online at webcast.cci.fsu.edu if you cannot attend in person. You can even participate by posting to our Facebook page (“Beta Phi Mu - Gamma Chapter”); post on the wall and we will relay your questions and comments.

At 5:00 p.m., guest speaker Emily Gore, the new FSU University Libraries Associate Dean for Digital Scholarship and Technology Services, presents “The Future of Digital Scholarship” in the Gregory Conference Room and via live webcast.

Our Wine and Finger Food Reception with jazz pianist Jim Amend begins at 6:00 p.m., giving you a chance to catch up with SLIS faculty, Gamma Chapter members and fellow FSU alumni in a casual, informal setting. Considering new Gamma service and leadership awardsGamma Chapter is considering two new

awards to honor service and leadership:

1. The Gamma Chapter Service and Leadership Award would go to a Gamma member who has continued to embody Beta Phi Mu’s motto “Consumed in the service of others” since their initiation by displaying professional excellence, providing valuable service to the community and profession, and by being a leader in our field.

2. The Gamma Chapter Honorary Membership would go to a non-Gamma member who has displayed especially high levels of professional excellence, provided valuable and exceptional service, and been a strong and effective leader in our field. We wish to acknowledge those that, while perhaps not nominated for Beta Phi Mu membership at the time of earning their degree, have exemplified the criteria we look for in Beta Phi Mu members. The

awardee would gain honorary membership in Gamma Chapter and may be considered for honorary membership in the international Beta Phi Mu organization.

We value your input and feedback on these proposed awards, which we will discuss as part of our Annual Meeting. You can also post your feedback on our Facebook page, send it via e-mail to [email protected], or include comments when sending in your annual chapter dues.
