The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Bats, and an eight-game losing streak at home. With the win, LOU improves to 15-26 at home, still last in the International League, with Norfolk’s 18 home wins being the closest. The Bats also improved to 15-9 in one-run games, with their .625 winning percentage in those games second-best in the IL, behind only Columbus (15-8) and their .652 winning percentage. LOU improved to 4-29 this season when getting out-hit. It was the Bats’ first win at Louisville Slugger Field since June 15, when they completed a three-game sweep over the Pawtucket Red Sox. BATS LOOK TO TIE SERIES: The Bats will look to knot up the four-game series with the G-Braves on Sunday, with right-hander Daniel Wright (1-3, 6.00) slated to start for Louisville. He’s in the midst of a rough three-game stretch, surrendering at least four earned runs and six hits in each of his last three starts. At Louisville Slugger Field this season, he’s 1-2 with a 5.82 ERA, while 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA on the road. On May 16, he threw the only nine-inning complete game (3h, 1r, 0er, 8k) for the Bats this season, and the first since Michael Lorenzen on August 16, 2015 vs. Norfolk. Going into Sunday, Louisville owns a 13-11 record in series finales, and 5-6 in home series finales. HOMER AND FRIENDS: Right-handed starter Homer Bailey (0-1, 6.75) pitched in his fourth MLB rehab start on Saturday, third with Triple-A Louisville. Last night, he went two innings, giving up an earned run on five hits, while striking out a batter. He also hit a batter and balked. He threw 38 pitches, 28 for strikes, reaching a season-high 74% strikes. RHP Stephen Johnson (1-3, 4.34) got the win last night, pitching four innings. He gave up an earned run on two hits, while walking two and striking out five. It was his first win since August 12, 2015 with Double-A Richmond in the San Francisco Giants organization. Lefty Nick Routt chipped in a scoreless inning, earning his second AAA hold. Righty J.J. Hoover got the save, pitching two scoreless frames, giving up a hit and striking out two. It was Hoover’s first AAA save since August 19, 2012 vs. Columbus. OFFENSE PUTS IT TOGETHER: The Bats had three players contribute multi-hit games in Saturday’s win: Left fielder Tony Renda (2-for- 4), shortstop Carlos Triunfel (2-for-4), and second baseman Juan Perez (2-for-3). It was Triunfel’s second consecutive multi-hit game. Both of his hits went for extra bases (double, triple), and he tripled for the first time since July 9, 2015, as a member of Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants organization. Hernan Iribarren also contributed a pinch-hit double and scored off ex-Bat Kanekoa Texeira, his first pinch hit of the season and first since May 16, 2015 with the Bats, also against Gwinnett (on the road). After Saturday, Louisville pinch hitters are hitting .231 (6-for-26) with 2 RBI on the season. DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK: Louisville came back from a 2-0 deficit after five innings to win by a 3-2 final. Their record improved to 9- 31 when their opponent gets on the scoreboard first. The three-run sixth inning were the most runs the Bats have scored in an inning since June 26, when they put up a three-spot in the eighth inning in a 7-4 victory at Rochester. It was also the first time the Bats came back from at least a two-run deficit and won the game since June 9 at Syracuse, when LOU was down 2-0 and came back to win 3-2. ONLY ONE STRIKEOUT: The Bats only struck out once as a team in Saturday’s win, Steve Selsky in the second inning. It was the lowest strikeout total for Louisville as a team this season, with the previous low of three occurring on six different occasions. It was the first time Louisville only struck out once as a team since July 3, 2015 vs. Columbus, also a 3-2 Bats victory. FOLDING WITH FOUR OF A KIND: With Gwinnett up 2-1 in the four-game series, Louisville’s best hope is to tie the series with a victory tonight. The Bats have had their share of trouble in longer series this season, owning an 0-5-1 record in four (or five) game series. With a win Sunday, LOU can tack on another tie. Their next four-gamer will come at home vs. Indianapolis on July 14-17, with the Bats searching for their first four-game series win. 40 WINS: The Bats earned their 40 th win of the season last night, improving to 40-42. Last season, LOU also won their 40 th in the 82 nd game of the season (on 7/3), owning an identical 40-42 record. In 2014, the Bats won #40 to even their record at 40-40. The last time the Bats were above .500 when they grabbed their 40 th win of the season was 2011, when they were 40-30 after a Scott Carroll-led Bats team defeated Toledo 3-1 on June 18. 100 TOTAL BASES: Outfielder Scott Schebler has racked up 99 total bases for Louisville this season. With his next hit, he’ll become the first Bats player this season to reach the 100 total base plateau, despite not making his LOU debut until over a month into the season (5/9). In 2015, the first LOU hitter to reach 100 total bases was Yorman Rodriguez on June 22 at Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
