The Indians got on the board right away when 2B Max Moroff scored on a bases loaded walk. The Indians hung on to that 1-0 lead until the seventh inning, when they put up a pair of runs off of Bats’ reliever RHP Matt Magill. Magill was charged with two more runs when the Indians put up another pair in the eighth inning to complete the 5-0 win. The Bats managed just two hits, both singles (SS Jose Peraza and RF Jesse Winker), and three walks. For Winker, it extended his hitting streak to nine games, one off a season high. HAYES GETS THROUGH FOUR IN A SPOT START: RHP Drew Hayes made a spot start for LOU yesterday, and it was just his third career start, and first since 9/1/14. He threw four innings, allowing four hits and one run, walking four. The four innings was a season high, and tied a career high set back on that start on 9/1/14. The four walks also tied a career high, which he set on 9/8/10 when he pitched and took the loss for Billings in a 5-2 setback against Great Falls. In that game, he went two and one-third innings, allowing two hits and four runs (three earned), walking four and striking out two. As a starter in his career, he is 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA. In 10 innings, he has allowed 10 hits, two runs (both earned), walking five, and striking out six. ROOKIE, YOU’RE UP NEXT: RHP Rookie Davis will make the start for the Bats tonight as he tries to help LOU salvage one game from the series and earn a winning road trip, which would be just the fourth winning road trip of the season for the Bats. Davis has made two appearances with the Bats, one a start and one a relief appearance following RHP Alfredo Simon, who is on Major League rehab. He has pitched four innings in each of the outings, allowing a total of 17 hits and 12 earned runs, walking three and striking out six. Davis, acquired by the Reds as a part of the LHP Aroldis Chapman trade, started the year with Double-A Pensacola. With the Reds, he is 9-3 with a 3.55 ERA. In 20 appearances (19 starts), he has thrown 104 innings, allowing 98 hits and 45 runs (41 earned), 10 home runs, and 29 walks, striking out 64. ETC. ETC. ETC.: With last night’s loss, the Bats have a matching record at home and on the road against the West Division, both at 12-17, for a 24-34 record overall in the division…A loss this afternoon would put the Bats at 60-66, six games below .500, matching their season low, set on 8/9…Entering this afternoon’s contest, the Bats are 12-10 in day games, with three day games left this season, including today. WINKER WITH A NINE GAMER: OF Jesse Winker collected one of the two Bats’ base hits last night, and extended his hitting streak to nine games. If he gets a hit this afternoon, the 10 game streak would match his season high, which he set on two separate occasions, 5/31- 6/11 and 7/15-24. During this stretch, he is 12-for-33 (.364), with four runs scored, two doubles and three RBI. His .300 batting average is eighth best in the International League, while his .388 on-base percentage is fourth-best in the league. When batting fifth in the lineup, as he was last night for the 23 rd time this season, he is 28-for-86 (.326), with six doubles and 11 RBI. FIVE AND TWO AND FIVE: Last night was the fifth time this season the Bats have been held to two hits or less, and the first time on the road that it has happened this season. It is the first time since the Bats were no-hit on 6/30 vs. GWN that they had been held to two or fewer hits. In those five games, they have combined for seven hits and one run, losing those five games by a combined score of 28-1. LENGTHY ROAD TRIP FINISHES UP: Entering this afternoon’s game, the Bats are 4-4 on the current road trip. Combined with their 11 game, 10 day road trip from 5/6-15, the Bats have gone 9-10 on their two longest road trips of the season. On that road trip in May, the Bats started in Indianapolis and took two of three from the Indians. Following this afternoon’s game, the Bats have 18 games left this season, 11 at home and seven on the road. WIN ONE FOR THE STARTER!: The Bats have not had the starting pitcher earn the win since RHP Tim Adleman, who won on 8/1 at TOL. In that start, he went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and one run, walking three and striking out six. Adleman was scheduled to start for the Bats last night, but was called up to CIN for the second time this season when the Reds put RHP Michael Lorenzen on the bereavement list. In the month of August, LOU starters have combined to go 1-7, with a 3.78 ERA. In 78 and two-thirds innings pitched, they have allowed 89 hits and 36 runs (33 earned), walking 26 and striking out 57, also allowing seven home runs. In 10 of the last 11 starts, the starter has allowed three runs or less, and seven times have allowed one run or less. In the first 17 games of August, the Bats are 7-10. THERE’S NO ‘L’ IN INDIANS: A loss today would give the Indians three straight wins over the Bats for the first time since 2014, when the Indians won three straight at Victory Field, spanning two series (8/19-20, 8/26). An Indianapolis win would be the Indians’ first three game sweep of the Bats since 8/22-8/24/12, a series that took place at Victory Field and saw the Indians outscore the Bats 17-8 in the three game sweep.

EARLY RUN, LATE RALLY KNOCKS OUT BATS, 5-0: The Indianapolis Indians won the series with a 5-0 shutout over the Louisville Bats

last night. The Indians got on the board right away when 2B Max Moroff scored on a bases loaded walk. The Indians hung on to that 1-0

lead until the seventh inning, when they put up a pair of runs off of Bats’ reliever RHP Matt Magill. Magill was charged with two more runs

when the Indians put up another pair in the eighth inning to complete the 5-0 win. The Bats managed just two hits, both singles (SS Jose

Peraza and RF Jesse Winker), and three walks. For Winker, it extended his hitting streak to nine games, one off a season high.

HAYES GETS THROUGH FOUR IN A SPOT START: RHP Drew Hayes made a spot start for LOU yesterday, and it was just his third

career start, and first since 9/1/14. He threw four innings, allowing four hits and one run, walking four. The four innings was a season high,

and tied a career high set back on that start on 9/1/14. The four walks also tied a career high, which he set on 9/8/10 when he pitched and

took the loss for Billings in a 5-2 setback against Great Falls. In that game, he went two and one-third innings, allowing two hits and four

hits, two runs (both earned), walking five, and striking out six.

ROOKIE, YOU’RE UP NEXT: RHP Rookie Davis will make the start for the Bats tonight as he tries to help LOU salvage one game from

the series and earn a winning road trip, which would be just the fourth winning road trip of the season for the Bats. Davis has made two

appearances with the Bats, one a start and one a relief appearance following RHP Alfredo Simon, who is on Major League rehab. He has

pitched four innings in each of the outings, allowing a total of 17 hits and 12 earned runs, walking three and striking out six. Davis, acquired

by the Reds as a part of the LHP Aroldis Chapman trade, started the year with Double-A Pensacola. With the Reds, he is 9-3 with a 3.55

ERA. In 20 appearances (19 starts), he has thrown 104 innings, allowing 98 hits and 45 runs (41 earned), 10 home runs, and 29 walks,

striking out 64.

ETC. ETC. ETC.: With last night’s loss, the Bats have a matching record at home and on the road against the West Division, both at 12-17,

for a 24-34 record overall in the division…A loss this afternoon would put the Bats at 60-66, six games below .500, matching their season

low, set on 8/9…Entering this afternoon’s contest, the Bats are 12-10 in day games, with three day games left this season, including today.

WINKER WITH A NINE GAMER: OF Jesse Winker collected one of the two Bats’ base hits last night, and extended his hitting streak to

nine games. If he gets a hit this afternoon, the 10 game streak would match his season high, which he set on two separate occasions, 5/31-

6/11 and 7/15-24. During this stretch, he is 12-for-33 (.364), with four runs scored, two doubles and three RBI. His .300 batting average is

eighth best in the International League, while his .388 on-base percentage is fourth-best in the league. When batting fifth in the lineup, as

he was last night for the 23rd time this season, he is 28-for-86 (.326), with six doubles and 11 RBI.

FIVE AND TWO AND FIVE: Last night was the fifth time this season the Bats have been held to two hits or less, and the first time on the

road that it has happened this season. It is the first time since the Bats were no-hit on 6/30 vs. GWN that they had been held to two or

fewer hits. In those five games, they have combined for seven hits and one run, losing those five games by a combined score of 28-1.

LENGTHY ROAD TRIP FINISHES UP: Entering this afternoon’s game, the Bats are 4-4 on the current road trip. Combined with their 11

game, 10 day road trip from 5/6-15, the Bats have gone 9-10 on their two longest road trips of the season. On that road trip in May, the

Bats started in Indianapolis and took two of three from the Indians. Following this afternoon’s game, the Bats have 18 games left this

season, 11 at home and seven on the road.

WIN ONE FOR THE STARTER!: The Bats have not had the starting pitcher earn the win since RHP Tim Adleman, who won on 8/1 at

TOL. In that start, he went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and one run, walking three and striking out six. Adleman was

scheduled to start for the Bats last night, but was called up to CIN for the second time this season when the Reds put RHP Michael

Lorenzen on the bereavement list. In the month of August, LOU starters have combined to go 1-7, with a 3.78 ERA. In 78 and two-thirds

innings pitched, they have allowed 89 hits and 36 runs (33 earned), walking 26 and striking out 57, also allowing seven home runs. In 10 of

the last 11 starts, the starter has allowed three runs or less, and seven times have allowed one run or less. In the first 17 games of August,

the Bats are 7-10.

THERE’S NO ‘L’ IN INDIANS: A loss today would give the Indians three straight wins over the Bats for the first time since 2014, when the

Indians won three straight at Victory Field, spanning two series (8/19-20, 8/26). An Indianapolis win would be the Indians’ first three game

sweep of the Bats since 8/22-8/24/12, a series that took place at Victory Field and saw the Indians outscore the Bats 17-8 in the three

game sweep.
