I enjoy the stability and strength of the old school varsity letters with thick slabs and squared off serifs to make themselves even wider. Once the grid was chosen I had a feeling of exactly which direction I would be heading. I created a basic square grid but on top of that I placed a hexagon grid. Instead of having sqaured off and perfectly straigh serifs and sections of the letters I knew that by adding the hexagons it would create a different direction and angle on the letters. As you can see so cleasrly in the serifs on the captial letters and as well on some of the bottom legs of some of the characters you can see the angle cut the leg short. along with being inspired by the varsity style font, I wa salso inspired by the old style space films and cheasp television shows. Its some- thing that I felt would or could be used for the title above a video game or something you would see at an arcade. Once I had the two inspirations down and started mixing the ideas together, out came Gallatica. For obvious reason, gallatica is a display font. if really desired it is fully uniformed with lowercase letters as you can see. Gallatica can me used on signage and as for fonts of names of companies or used with logos. the font was inspired by old style space films as well as the varisty style lettering in college and high school sports. So with that said, there is a preference for the font to be used a sports jersey for names and the team name if it is suited to it in some sort of way such as a sports teams with the name martians or space cowboys. What the odds of that may be, who knows. The second prefered usage of my font and characters would to be for a video game or a film title sequence and trailers. If any of these things were being done in the now so popular retro style way of doing everything, i would hope this glyph set would be an asset.

The entire idea behind the Gallatica font was to make an old style space font based primari-ly on varsity style lettering.

Its some-thing that I felt would or could be used for the title above a video game or something you would see at an arcade.
