Commons gallala Dayna Larreau COMMUNITY INTERN PROFILE Hometown: Arnold, Nebraska Education: Economics, University of Nebraska Internship Partners: Arnold Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) & Arnold Sentinel in Arnold, Nebraska Dayna Larreau’s internship was divieded between three major projects. For the AEDC, Dayna took a census of the Arnold Cemetery and put the infor- mation in a database with a special focus on genealogy. She also played a role in the city park playground project. For the Arnold Sentinel, Larreau conducted research, wrote articles featuring citizens who have stayed in the community and the economic impact of an increased sales tax. To complete these projects, Dayna worked with several different com- munity leaders to gather information and ideas. The cemetery project was greatly appreciated by the community. With a Rolodex of names in disarray, Dayna was tasked to organize 2,478 names into a working da- tabase. For the city park playground project, Dayna worked with three companies to compile quotes and pictures for a playground project bid. The Arnold Sentinel featured a front page article by Dayna based ob her research on people who have returned to live in the community. In summary of her internship, Dayna remarked, “It was an amazing opportunity and helped me so much in my confidence, and prepared me for the job world quite a bit more. There is no doubt the Ogallala Com- mons Internship is something everyone should try to do. It really shaped me into a better person through community service and through bettering myself.”
