SPARKS run shirts have been designed to show our support for indigenous communities. Funds raised from the sales of the shirts will go towards an Indigenous charitable cause. TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION DAY: NO SCHOOL Thursday, September 30 There will be no school on Thursday, September 30th which will mark the very first Day of Truth and Reconciliation. This statutory holiday was created to honour the legacy of the 150,000 First Nations, Metis, and Inuit who were forced into the residential school system. FEE OF $1 FOR MASKSStarting Monday, September 13Please be advised that starting Monday, September 13th there will be a charge of $1 for masks. Wehighly urge all parents to ensure that their child comes to school with a mask as well as a few extramasks in their backpacks.

UNIFORM POLICYJunior High Girls:Girls are required to wear a grey school abaya and a royal blue school hijab. Both are available forpurchase in the school.

Junior High Boys:Monday thru Thursday Boys are to wear their black uniform pants and grey uniform polo shirt (long orshort sleeve). On Fridays, Boys are to wear the blue uniform dress shirt and black tie, or a thob orsimilar form of cultural clothing. If boys want to wear an extra layer, a school hoodie with the schoollogo is permitted.

NOTE: ONLY SCHOOL HOODIES WITH SCHOOL LOGO ARE ALLOWED FOR ALL JUNIOR HIGHSTUDENTS.

ISLAM Award CriteriaThe 9th Annual ISLAM Awards will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Only Junior High and HighSchool students are eligible.*To be eligible to receive an award, you must have no more than one discipline report and all yourgrades must be above 60%.

Quran Memorization Award:Criteria for Junior High:This award will be given to the three most successful students from each grade.The students must meet the following criteria to receive the award:➢ Students should properly recite the Surahs, from that grade curriculum, with the tajweed

rules.➢ Students should know the basic provisions of tajweed.➢ Students should read with correct pronunciation of the words.

Criteria for Senior High:This award will be given to the most successful six students from High School.The students must meet the following criteria to receive the award:➢ Students should be able to recite Surat Al Nour ( النورسورة ) with the tajweed rules.➢ Students should know the basic provisions of tajweed.➢ Students should read with correct pronunciation of the words.

Islamic Studies Award:This award will be given to the top three achievers from each grade in Junior High (Total 9) and thetop three achievers from each grade in High School. (Total 9)

Al Muathen, Bilal Ibn Rabah Award (Boys only):This will be given to the top three achievers from Junior High and top three achievers from HighSchool. (Total 6)

Khatib/Speech award:This will be given to the top three achievers from Junior High and top three achievers from HighSchool. (Total 6)

Arabic Language:This award will be given to the top three achievers from each grade in Junior High (Total of 9) and toone from each High School Arabic course (Total of 3).

Academic:This award will be given to the students who achieve the following:*The student may not have any mark below 60% or any major discipline report.Criteria for Junior High:➢ Honorable Mention: requires (74.5% - 79.4%) based on an average of the 4 core subjects.➢ Honors: requires (79.5% - 89.4%) based on an average of the 4 core subjects.➢ Honors with Distinction: requires 89.5% or higher based on an average of the 4 core subjects.

*These awards will be based on the students’ grades encompassing Y1 results up to June 6th.Criteria for High School:➢ Honorable Mention: requires (74.5% - 79.4%) based on an average of 4 core subjects.➢ Honors: requires (79.5% - 89.4%) based on an average of 4 core subjects.➢ Honors with Distinction: requires 89.5% or higher based on an average of 4 core subjects.

*These awards will be based on the students’ grades from the 1st semester results and 2nd semesterresults up to June 6th.*Any course taken outside the Academy will not be considered for this Award.

Diploma & AP Stars:The student must achieve 80% and above on the diploma exam or four and above on the AP test.*Any diploma course taken outside the Academy will not be considered for this Award.

Top Academic:This award will be given to the top student from each grade. One from all of grade 7, one from all ofgrade 8, one from all of grade 9, one from grade 10, one from grade 11, and one from grade 12 (Totalof 6). The students' average will be calculated based on the four core subjects for Junior High and topfour core subjects for High School.

Leadership as an Active Citizen:This award will be given to the most successful three students from Junior High and the mostsuccessful three students from High School. (Total 6)

Athlete of the Year Award:This award will be given to the most successful boy and the most successful girl from Junior High(Total 2) and the most successful boy and girl from High School (Total 2).

EIA Profile Award:This award will be given to a student from grade 12. The criteria for this award is found in theStudent’s Handbook on page 5.

Alumni Award: The student who achieves this award must demonstrate the following:➢ Giving back to the school.➢ Giving back to the Muslim community.➢ Giving back to the Edmonton community.➢ Graduated from EIA from either Grade 9 or Grade 12.➢ Volunteer minimum 50 hours.
