ST. DOMINIC CHURCH CINCINNATI, OHIO

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESKCongratulations to our eighth-graders who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last Saturday. We interviewed the students before Confirmation. We were very impressed with their faith and maturity. They are on their way to becoming adult followers of Jesus.

Congratulations to Matthew Walter, Senior at Elder. He is the Valedictorian of the graduating class this year. Matthew, we are proud of you!

Congrats to Bailey Broxterman, a St. Dominic grad who was a member of Seton’s Dance Team. The team just won the National Championship in Pom Pom and placed third in Hip Hop.

On Wednesday, April 21, I gathered with my brother priests of the Archdiocese for our annual convocation. During that day of reflection and prayer, we devoted part of our time to the issue of racism. We heard from Bishop Sheldon Fabre, chair of the U.S. Bishops Ad Hoc Committee on Racism, Archbishop Schnurr, two professors from the University of Dayton, and four of our fellow Catholics who shared about their experiences of racism in their lives. It was a powerful event which carried forth the message of “Open Wide Our Hearts: An Enduring Call to Love,” the 2018 pastoral letter on racism from the U.S. bishops. Our Archdiocese is actively engaged in confronting the sin of racism, and there is still much work to do. I ask that you pray for these efforts to continue to bear good fruit, and I encourage you to reach out to the Social Action Office of the Archdiocese if you are interested in learning more about these initiatives.

MISCELLANEOUSBICENTENNIAL MARIAN PILGRIMAGE – 33 Days. 300+ Miles. 36 Parishes. Join us as the Archdiocese of Cincinnati celebrates 200 years with the longest Marian pilgrimage in the United States! The pilgrimage will start at Russells Point, in the northern part of the diocese, on May 16 and crisscross its way throughout the entire archdiocese, finishing at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains on June 19. Each day, the pilgrims will take a statue of Our Lady of Fatima to a different location. There will also be larger, family-friendly events hosted throughout the archdiocese. There are many ways to get involved, including joining our walk as a Statue Guardian pilgrim, praying the 33 Days to Morning Glory booklet (which you can pick up near the doors of church), participating in our main events, and joining in our Marian Pilgrimage Facebook group. For more information, including a detailed map of the pilgrimage and where the pilgrims will stop each day, visit our website at www.mary2021.org.

MAJOR AWARD AND PULLED PORK DRIVE-THRU DINNERWe have postponed our Festival on the Memorial Day weekend. Because of the likely lost financial support that the Festival brings, we are planning to supplement it with a Major Award Drawing along with a Pulled Pork Drive-Thru Dinner on Saturday, May 29. By now, all parish families should have received a mailing containing an order form for the Pulled Pork Dinner and six tickets for

the Major Award. The Major Award will be $10,000.00 first prize, $1,000.00 second prize, $500.00 third prize. The tickets are $20.00 each; 6 for $100.00. Tickets and order forms can be returned in the envelope provided, either by dropping it in the collection basket or through the mail. You can also purchase tickets or order dinner online by going to https://stdominicdelhi.weshareonline.org/. Additional order forms and tickets will be available after Masses beginning next week, or you can pick them up in the Parish Office. Thank you for your generosity during this difficult time!
