CONFIDENT. CAPABLE. SUCCESSFUL. INDEPENDENT.These are our guiding principles at The Carroll Center for the Blind. Here, we encourage clients to take charge of their lives. Clients learn that with the right training and a supportive team, they can do anything they want to do, regardless of society’s perceived limitations.
At the end of the summer, one of the students shared a poem:
Beyond my cane and beyond my braille, I’m just as normal as you,
Beyond my very interesting tale, I can do what you can do,
I can set the table, of that I’m able,
I can get myself some food, because I’m a pretty smart dude,
I can do things that you would think I can not, like carrying things that are hot,
I can get myself a snack, and I can put my dishes back,
I know how to fold laundry and towels, and I can take my own showers,
So just because I’m blind as a bat, I’m just like you, and that is that!
Helen Keller once said, “Alone we can do little, together we can do so much.” Thanks to you, this year we helped 4,000 blind or visually impaired children, adults, and senior citizens learn that they, too, can do anything they want to do. The government reimburses us for 70% of our operating costs – the rest comes from generous friends like you. We are grateful for the steadfast support that makes such a tremendous difference in the lives of our clients.
