Old Haileybury put in a good sec-ond half against Fairfield and were4 goals ahead at the finish .

Reservoir Old Boys easily beat Na-tional Bank and St . Kilda CBC werewinners by 20 points over Old Xav-erians .

St. Kevin's overwhelmed St . Pat'sand Brunswick were a little toostrong for Old Brighton, winning by 3goals . Hampton Rovers beat Old Gee-long by 15 points .

Marcellin scraped home from Glen-huntly by only 2 points, Glen's ac-curate kicking almost winning it forthem. State Savings Banks' inaccu-racy in front of goal probably costthem the game against Old Ivanhoe, who scored by 20 points .

Poor kicking also played a big partin AJAX's 29-point defeat by ANZBank .

Old Camberwell overwhelmed OldMentonians and St . Bede's scored abig win over Monash Whites .

Melbourne High scored a surprisewin over Monash University in JuniorSection 1, the margin being 28 points .University Blacks also caused an up-set, beating Power House by nearly7 goals .

In Section 2, National Bank beatWest Brunswick by 5 points, andCoburg were run to a similar marginby Tooronga-Malvern .

In Reserve Section games, Univer-sity Blues beat Ormond by 3 points,St . Bernard's beat Coburg by 15, OldCarey beat Old Trinity by 10, Geelongbeat the Blacks by 9, Ivanhoe beatTooronga-Malvern by 4, Assumptioneasily beat Power House, Fairfieldbeat Old Haileybury by 5 points andOld Brighton beat Brunswick by 10 .

SOCIAL NOTESCaulfield Grammarians has invited

University Blues players, officials andsupporters to visit the clubrooms up-stairs after the game today . As thesetwo clubs have much in common inthat many of our players are univer-sity students, a fair amount of ribald"backchat" will be bandied about overa friendly glass and it could developinto quite a session .

Assumption players and supportersbeware! A big fish bar-b-que is comingup at the home of Jim Orfanellis on22nd July. A big turnout by everyoneis expected, keep it in mind .

North Old Boys, the purple and whiteball . July 4th at the Palais . Organizeyour tables or come by yourself .Contact "Boles" 36-5459 or "Mr . Ac-curacy", Mick O'Neill, at the game .

LOOKING BACK

5 YEARS AGO - 1967Kew, with Crowe, Briggs and Mullin

the best, gave a great display of wetweather football to overwhelm Coburg12 .13 to 8 .6 ; and moved into secondplace in `A' section with MelbourneHigh.

St . Kilda CBOC Juniors sufferedtheir first defeat for the season .

In an extravaganza of scoring for awet day, Fairfield kicked 18 .9 to beatNational Bank 16 .11 .

Former Richmond player, FrankDunin (coach of Uni . Blacks) was ap-pointed coach of Carnival team toplay in Launceston, with Fred Coidreyas manager, and Harry Heathershawas assistant manager.

100 games up to Jeff Birch(M.H.S .O .B.), David Rhoden (Kew)and Frank Brennan (Com. Bank) .

Assumption (O'Connell 8 goals)swamped Reservoir O .B. joint leadersin `E' section-18 .16 to 10 .8 .

10 YEARS - 196 2David Burstin, AJAX rover, played

his 100th game for the club and becamethe first player in the club to performthis feat .

Old Carey were beaten by 2 pointsby Malvern and broke their run of 25victories .

'C' section captains were R. Minchin(H. Rovers), John Stephen (O .G .G .), J .Ravech (AJAX), Peter Stokes (Bruns .),C. Wakefield (W. Bruns .), L. Woods(Kew), B. Sheedy (St . Kilda C.B .C .),G. Brewer (Nat . Bank), D. McDonald(F .T .C .O.B.), and Ted Northeast(Caulf . Gram .) .

The four leaders in 'A' section met:Old Paradians (top), 12 .14 finished

strongly to defeat Old Melburnians(3rd) 8 .7 . Uni Blacks (4th) 13 .16 ledall day to easily beat Collegians (2nd)9 .13 .

20 YEARS AGO - 1952In the worst 'slush' for many years

Ormond Juniors ( 11 .17) defeated OldScotch (3 .8) to continue their unbeatenrun - stars were John Byrne (now anexecutive member), Brian Walsh (laterto play with St . Kilda) and Col Wilson(a member of Melbourne's 1950's pre-miership teams) .

Clubs were reminded that V.A.F.A .had never cancelled a game while thetops of the goalposts were show-ing above water.

Old Xaverians ( 16 .14) were happywith their victory in `C' section overGlenhuntly (9 .12) and were lookingforward to Jim Ralph's return to thefield (Jim is 1972 coach) .

BALL BRIEFS (Cont.)"SAINT" MAKES IT A 10 0

Kev Clements notches up his cen-tury for St Kilda CBOC when he pullson the boots for today's game ."Clemmo" has been around the clubas one of the greatest personalities(with his booming laugh echoingthroughout the rooms on trainingnights) for many years and only anoverseas trip, including a sojourn inTurkey of all places, has delayed hisreaching this achievement. Alwaysready to take his turn on the com-mittee, "Clemmo" has been a valuableclub member and will remain so inyears to come . Congratulations, Clem,a mighty effort .

CENTURY TO U.H.S . MANU.H.S. congratulates Les. Boag on

the playing of his 100th game today .Although most of Les' career hasbeen played on the wing for the seniorteam, last year he managed to coercethe club into letting him play in thereserves . The result was that he wonthe best and fairest . Les' clever ballhandling and long kicking is a featureof his game and many of his team-mates should try to emulate .

R.O .B.'s would like to congratulatefour players who have reached fiftygames with the club . Last SaturdayDoug Alexander reached his fifty witha good comeback after serious injury .This week the fifty has been reachedby Alan Ashworth, a versatile player,"Tacka" Trevascus, a courageousplayer and a social committee mem-ber, also Graham Stevens, a very re-liable player and one of the executive .R.O .B.'s thanks and congratulatesthese boys and look forward to manymore games from them .

CENTURY UP TO ST . KILDACHAMPION

Six goals and a dashing determinedgame was the story of Vic Calleja's100th game for St Kilda CBOC. `Rome'has served the club as both a topplayer and committeeman for manyyears . Vic's greatly improved form inthe past few weeks could well see himspearhead us into B grade, as was thecase in our last promotion . `Rome's'many mercurial displays matched withhis great determination, make him oneof the finest players ever to play forour club . Well done, Vic . and keepup the good work .
