Avoid stylish loops and spirals that can be misread. Beginners, especially, are confused by elaborate lettering.

Do not

Stand at 45 degrees and write with your arm extended. This makes it easy to glance back over your shoulder from time to time as you work. It also helps you to write straight.

Never work in silence. It is vital to keep the class

Comment on your drawing or writing as you draw or write. Invite students to read out what you are writing, to answer a related question, to tell you what word to write next, how to spell the next word, and so on. This is not easy at first, but preserve. It will soon become second nature.

To complete the board, five or ten minutes before the end of each lesson you can focus on the board, going over any part by getting students to explain a certain prompt, point or word, and generally summing up the lesson.
