The IEC 61511 standard is divided into three parts and IEC 61508 is divided into seven parts Of the other details that part-1 of both the standards addresses, it also specifies the non-technical requirements such as: Management of functional safety(IEC 61511,-1-Clause 5 and IEC 61508-1-Clause 6) Documentation (IEC 61508-1-Clause 5 and Annex-A) Verification (IEC 61511-Clause 7, 12.4, 12.7) Functional Safety Assessment (IEC-61511-1-Clause 5 and IEC- 61508-1-Clause 8) The non-technical requirements deal with the organizational aspects that need to be in place to achieve the technical requirements. Management of functional safety is very important as it deals with how and what did the organization do to come to the product/process they have now. To meet the Safety Lifecycle requirements and the non-technical requirements as listed above, good management of functional safety should be in place in any organization.
