You also are to testify because you have been with me from the beginning....When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the Truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” --Jesus in John 15 and 16. Jesus promises us an "Advocate" from God the Father. We know that an "Advocate" is someone who will speak on our behalf, who will stand up for us, who will comfort and guide and counsel us. This Advocate is the Holy Spirit, whose pouring out we celebrate on Pentecost, this year on May 27. Many of us grew up using the older translation of the "Holy Ghost", and wonder what exactly this mysterious "Spirit" is. Jesus teaches us plainly above: The Holy Spirit, who comes from the Father, testifies to and guides us to Jesus Christ. The Spirit takes Christ and declares him to us through his Word. In this way, the Holy Spirit continually leads us into the Truth, for through the Word and Sacraments he leads us to Christ himself. Every Sunday in May we can see the Holy Spirit at work, bringing us to Christ, and every Sunday we have something to celebrate: May 6 we celebrate a Baptism and the First Communions of five of our young people May 13 we give thanks for all women, and pray a blessing upon all who serve as mothers May 20 we celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord May 27 we celebrate Pentecost--the coming of the Holy Spirt Amen. • SEAFARERS & INTERNATIONAL HOUSE

"Mum, can we have a mass? Pleeease Mum, can we have a mass?" These were the first words I heard Saturday evening as I boarded the M/V JS Phoenix. Never in all the years that I have been visiting ships were these the first words I ever heard. "Yes, of course we can have a mass," I responded. "Mum, we want it tomorrow, tomorrow is Palm Sunday and we will be at sea for Easter. We would like it tomorrow!" A quick call to Pastor Mills determined that, yes, we could do a mass Palm Sunday evening. There were smiles all around. The JS Phoenix had a crew of 21 Korean and Filipino seafarers; 18 of the crew were detained because they had no visa allowing them to leave their ship in U.S. ports. Two of the crewmen had been onboard for 17 months and were hoping to finally go home when the ship reached Turkey. At the Palm Sunday Bake Sale at Trinity, I purchased a beautiful cake and happened to mention that I was going to bring it to the crew when Pastor Mills and I went onboard to do the service. Soon Trinity members were giving me more cakes, cupcakes and cookies to bring on the ship. Pastor Mills and I could hardly carry everything as we headed to the gangway. We were greeted with much excitement. We set up an altar on a small table in the crew recreation room and chairs were brought in from the mess room. The room was full as we celebrated a wonderful Palm Sunday Communion Service complete with waving palms. Then the party began as everyone enjoyed the cakes and cookies. The ship remained in port several days more. During that time, I was able to bring them magazines, T-shirts, some socks, playing cards, candy, knit hats and other items. One night a Korean officer brought me a picture of a McDonald's hamburger in a magazine advertisement and asked, "Was it possible? Could I get them? So, an order was quickly taken for 30 McDoubles.

What an amazing ministry! Every ship I visit is a new ship with a new story. Each ship is another opportunity to witness to the Gospel and to share God's love. It doesn't get any better than that!

Thank you for your continued support. The seafarers are so grateful for the small things I can bring them that you provide: hard candy, nuts, playing cards, knit hats, magazines, etc. The seafarers always ask, "How much, Mum?' I always say, "FREE! Everything is given to me by people who care about you and want you to know that you are not forgotten." Thank you! Ruth Setaro Port Chaplain
