It is great to see the students being able to play on our ovals and actually wanting to run around. I would like to remind everyone that students need to wear their hats and have correct footwear so that they remain safe at all times. Our school has purchased long sleeve track jackets to cater for our students during the dry season. They look fantastic and ensure that our students are all dressed in our school colours. The jackets are available from our school office for $40.00

CHINESE TEACHER Miss Ruby, our wonderful Chinese teacher is returning to China this week. At last week’s assembly, three of our excellent Chinese students thanked Miss Ruby for all of her assistance and support during their lessons. They had practiced saying this in both Chinese and English.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Miss Elizabeth to our school. She will be working with Miss Ruby this week so that she is able to meet all of her students and learn about our school.

Dr Catherine Trinder who is our school council chairperson presented Miss Ruby with a present on behalf of the students and teachers. The gift was a beautiful screen printed indigenous bag.

REMINDER: SCHOOL BANKING The School Banking program provides a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good saving habits. The program has run in participating primary schools since 1931 and encourages children to regularly deposit money into their Youthsaver account and earn silver Dollarmites tokens. These tokens can be redeemed for an exciting reward through the school banking rewards program. When children join the program they receive a Dollarmites deposit wallet to use when making school banking deposits. To get started you will need to open a Youthsaver account for your child. For information on the Commonwealth Bank’s savings program, please call 132221 or visit your nearest branch. Ms Chen, an admin staff member of Parap Primary School, collects and processes all student banking deposits every Tuesday for your children. The Commonwealth Bank do not have any involvement in this, as funds are deposited via the Post Office’s Commonwealth Bank agency service. Commonwealth Bank deposit rules:

Only one deposit can be processed per day, so if your child misses a week, two

amounts of money sent to school the following week will be processed as one

deposit, and only one token will be received. If for some reason the school is

unable to process the banking that week the bank will be contacted and tokens

adjusted accordingly.

Token reward prizes must be ordered by the school once a child has collected 10

tokens, and it can take up to 2-3 weeks for the rewards to be received in the mail

at the school. Please be patient.

SCHOOL WEBSITE AND FACE BOOK Our Marketing Committee have been working to build our new website. This is going very well and we aim to have the site published within two weeks. There is an interim website in place with information from our school handbook available to download. The address is www.parapprimary.nt.edu.au We have also begun to post information and news to our new Facebook page, Parap Primary School – Working Together. We are finding that the response to the regular posting of news and events is growing very quickly. We think this is a great way to build connections with our community and get key messages out to parents. Please click the link below to find us on Facebook and like our page!

CRAZY HAIR DAY – Friday 25th May Ready to go crazy and help raise awareness about cystic fibrosis? This Friday, 25th May, is CRAZY HAIR DAY. For just a gold coin donation your child can come to school with their craziest hair style. All money raised during Crazy Hair Day will go towards helping the Cystic Fibrosis Federation in Australia provide vital support to those suffering from cystic fibrosis. Spray it, paint it, braid it or wig it, the crazier the better! Just remember that your child will be not permitted to bring aerosol cans and hair paint to school, so must have their ‘Crazy Hair’ done prior to coming to school.
