FROM THE PRESIDENT I was looking over last year’s newsletters when I came across the Feb- ruary ‘06 issue, entitled, “Check Out Our Busy Calendar!” Certainly last year’s calendar was impressive, but if you haven’t looked at this year’s calendar, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. With more members (51 compared to 31 this time last year), and more important – more members actively participating in club management, outings, social events, etc. - we are in store for explosive growth (both in membership and activities) for the third year in a row! If you haven’t volunteered to host some sort of event, I urge you to jump on board soon. Be- tween our many Hickory, multi-chapter, and national events, the available dates are lessening. Golf outings are a bit of work, but ask anyone who has done it – the reward far outweighs the effort. And it helps to share the load with other ASGA member(s). This early in the year, there will be changes to our 2007 calendar as we hear of regional and national outings. SATURDAY GOLF in February Twelve (12) members of the Hickory ASGA (Peggy, Richard, Annie, Jim, Wayne, Bill L., Brenda, Betty, Ella Rae, Phil, Lucy, and Anne) braved tempera-tures, which struggled to reach the for-ties, to compete in a shamble at River Crest Golf Club on Saturday, February 10, 2006.

Golf Per Peggy, Bill announced the Febru-ary golf outings (River Crest-10th and Hampton Heights-18th) and announced that registration forms are now avail-able for the nationally-sponsored Me-morial Day Weekend event in Pine-hurst, NC. Volunteers are still needed to help host the scheduled Saturday/Sunday golf dates in 2007. newest member, Lucy McCall (83); and net, Richard Elrod (68) and Annie Carter (63), respectively. Immediately following play, all participants quickly sought warmer places. Thanks to Bill L. for hosting!

GOLF COMMITTEE Members of the Golf Committee (Peggy, Jim, Phil, and Wayne) met on Thursday, February 15, 2007, at the Round Wheels/Holiday Inn Select. Top-ics for discussion were handicaps, Nine & Dines, the Club Championship, and a Season Championship. Information has been sent to the membership and discus-sion will follow at the March 8 th general meeting.

WINTER CHILL Hickory ASGA members (Richard, Terry, Jim, and Charlie) agreed that this Wilmington-sponsored golf outing was quite aptly named - after they attended the weekend event at the Beau Rivage Resort & Golf club on February 16-18, 2007.

Having elected for an optional 18-hole round on Friday, golfers participated in 9:00 am shotgun starts on both Satur-day and Sunday at the resort’s on-site course. Bringing home honors for Hick-ory was Charlie Hager, who was on the 2nd place team on Saturday and won a closest-to-the-pin on Sunday.

Never shy about eating, drinking, and partying – the gentlemen enjoyed daily breakfasts and an evening banquet meal, complete with deejay and danc-ing. Said Richard, “Despite the wind and cold, we had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones.” Thanks to Carolyn Comentale, Tony Zitney, and the entire Wilmington Chap-ter for hosting the event.

SUNDAY GOLF in February The Hampton Heights golf outing, which was scheduled by Peggy on Sunday, February 18, 2007, was can-celled due to cold, windy weather. However, the event was rescheduled on the following Saturday, the 24th, with twelve (12) Hickory ASGA members (Bill L., Ann B., Ella Rae, Betty, Anne, Larry Hollifield, Richard, Jim, Peggy, and Lucy) participating in a shamble.

Winners in the male/female gross/net divisions were Jim (77) Lucy (85), Larry (62) and Peggy (61). Jim also took two (2) closest-to-the-pins.

BOARD MEETING in February Seven (7) elected/appointed officers (Bill L., Betty, Phil, Claudetta, Peggy, Wayne, and Richard) held their monthly Board of Director's meeting on Wednes-day, February 21, 2007, at the Round Wheels Lounge/Holiday Inn Select at 6:00 pm. While “localizing” the brochures from ASGA National, the board firmed up the golf events in March, reviewed the spring recruiting drive, heard the report from the Golf Committee meeting, and corrected several golf dates that were in conflict with other local and regional events. Bill L. will finalize the 2006 in Re-view to be sent to ASGA National.
