Following is a recent email update from Fr Adrian conveying an exciting new development. Fr Andrew Wise The Fathers and Brothers of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation are delighted to share with you the following exciting news. One of the topics discussed with Father Michael Lang during his recent visit was the theological education of the seminarians of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation. Our seminarians currently begin their priestly formation at the Toronto Oratory, Canada. There they undertake the canonical novitiate, and also complete a Bachelor's degree in philosophy through Saint Philip's Seminary, which is attached to the Oratory. After discussions with Father Michael Lang (the delegate of the Procurator General of the Confederation of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri), and with Archbishop Coleridge, the community of the Brisbane Oratory in Formation has decided that our seminarians will undertake their theological studies at Blackfriars in Oxford, UK. Blackfriars is run by the English Dominicans, and specially caters for religious and seminarians. It offers the STB programme (Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology) granted by the Pontifical University of St Thomas, Rome (the Angelicum), a course which is designed to meet all the requirements for ordination to the priesthood. Various religious orders send their seminarians to Blackfriars, and in the coming academic year the Oratories of Oxford and York will have some of their seminarians there. Because Blackfriars serves religious communities in the formation of seminarians, its fees are quite reasonable. In conjunction with the academic studies at Blackfriars, our seminarians will live at the Oxford Oratory. We are very grateful to Father Daniel Seward and the community of the Oxford Oratory, for the welcome they have extended to our Brother Shawn, who will be the first of our seminarians to begin theological studies in Oxford. This is scheduled to commence in January 2017. We acknowledge as well the great generosity of the Oxford Oratory community and the Toronto Oratory community who ask for only a very small contribution in return for welcoming the Brisbane men to share fully in the life of their communities. In coming to a decision about the theological studies of our seminarians, we were keen to build on the excellent foundation that has been laid during their time in Toronto. We were also looking for a way to continue a solid Oratorian formation in conjunction with theological studies that prepared our men well for priestly ordination. We are confident that the Oxford plan meets these needs. It is our overriding desire, in all of this, to have the highest standard of formation for our seminarians in order to form the best priests possible for the service of the laity who will be in any way attached to the Oratory. From the Parish Priest Dear Parishioners, Last week I mentioned a consultation process with the Sunday 9:00am St John Fisher Mass parishioners about the possibility of changing the Mass time to 8:00am or 8:30am. Please pray for one of our very talented choir members, Luke Adeney, who suffered serious burns last Sunday evening. Luke is recovering slowly but well in the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Please also pray for his wife Sarah and the Adeney and Richardson families.

We have some good news on the Oratory front this week.

From Page 1: It is also a way that the Oratory can make a lasting contribution to our Archdiocese, by providing well formed priests who are available to serve the faithful in our Archdiocese. The Congregation of the Oratory exists to serve the Secular Oratory. In other words, the community of priests and brothers exists to help the lay faithful be holy and advance towards salvation through all the means that Christ has given to His Church.

All that has been accomplished in the Brisbane Oratory in Formation so far, and especially the fact that we are now in our fourth year of training men for the priesthood, is due to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters and benefactors. It simply would not have been possible without this support. Thank you!

As we now look to send Brother Shawn to Oxford in January 2017, and not long after Brother Tyson in October 2017, we appeal for your continued support and generosity, both prayerfully and financially. We especially invite you to consider becoming a regular giver to the Oratory. Direct Debit and Credit Card options are available.

To make a pledge, or to make an offering today, please go to: http://brisbane-oratory.org/donations/

The Brisbane Oratory in Formation community is delighted that, through God's providence and through the intercession of Saint Philip and our other heavenly patrons, doors have been opened so that this wonderful possibility is available for our seminarians, the future priests of the Brisbane Oratory. Deo gratias!

SUNDAY MASS READINGS First Reading: Habakkuk 1: 2-3: 2: 2-4 How long, Lord, am I to cry for help while you will not listen: to cry 'oppression!' in your ear and you will not save? Why do you set injustice before me, why do you look on where there is tyranny? Outrage and violence, this is all I see, all is contention, and discord flourishes. Then the Lord answered and said, 'Write the vision down, inscribe it on tablets to be easily read, since this vision is for its own time only: eager for its own fulfilment, it does not deceive; if it comes slowly, wait, for come it will, without fail. 'See how he flags, he whose soul is not at rights, but the upright man will live by his faithfulness.'

The Word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm 94 (Said by all)

Come, ring out our joy to the Lord: hail the rock who saves us. Let us come before him, giving thanks, with songs let us hail the Lord.

Come in; let us bow and bend low; let us kneel before the God who made us for he is our God and we the people who belong to his pasture, the flock that is led by his hand.

O that today you would listen to his voice! ‘Harden not your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the desert when your fathers put me to the test; when they tried me, though they saw my work.’

Second Reading: 2Timothy 1: 6-8.13-14 I am reminding you to fan into a flame the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you. God's gift was not a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to the Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; but with me, bear the hardships for the sake of the Good News, relying on the power of God. Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. You have been trusted to look after something precious; guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

The Word of the Lord

Response: Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation:

Alleluia, alleluia! The word of the Lord stands for ever; it is the word given to you, the Good News. Alleluia!

Gospel: Luke 17: 5-19 The apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith.' The Lord replied, 'Were your faith the size of a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, "Be uprooted and planted in the sea", and it would obey you. 'Which of you, with a servant ploughing or minding sheep, would say to him when he returned from the fields, "Come and have your meal immediately?”

Would he not be more likely to say, "Get my supper laid; make yourself tidy and wait on me while I eat and drink. You can eat and drink yourself afterwards?” Must he be grateful to the servant for doing what he was told? So with you: when you have done all you have been told to do, say, "We are merely servants: we have done no more than our duty."’

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Memorial Acclamation: Number Three

Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection you have set us free.
