A Valentine Gift

For Valentine’s Day this year,I wanted to get the perfect gift.

And so I went and lookedTo see what I could find.

To show how beautiful you are to me,I thought of getting flowers.

But then I realizedNo flower in this world is as beautiful as you, my love.

To show how I love to gaze into your eyes,I thought of getting emeralds.

Until I realizedNo emerald is perfect enough to match.

I thought of how my heart burns with love for you,But I could not touch the sun.

How I love to feel your touch,But I could not catch a warm summer breeze.

I wanted to grant your deepest wish,But the stars were out of reach.

I wanted to show you somehowJust how much you mean to me.

Nothing is beautiful enough.Nothing is perfect enough.Nothing compares enough.

Because you are my most beautiful flower. You are my most perfect emerald.

You make my heart burn hotter than the sun with love.Your touch feels better than a summer breeze.

And you are my greatest wish come true.

You are everything to me,That I thought to give to you.

And so this Valentine’s Day, my love,No matter what I give,

Though it is not wrapped,

Page 4: From the Heart (Poetry)

You have my heart and soul,And all my love as well.

My Everything

How does one describe,How much you mean to me?

What images, thoughts, or words,Can show you how I feel?

You are My Everything,Of this I have no doubt.

Words will never seem enough,Yet images may help reveal.

You are the perfect sunrise,The gentle summer rain,

The moonlight breaking through the clouds,The warm glow from a fireplace.

The rainbow after a thunderstorm,The softest sand along a beach,

A perfectly cut diamond,The most beautiful waterfall.

Hearing the ocean in a seashell,The smell of fresh cut grass.

The laughter of happy children,The sky’s beauty during a summer’s dusk.

All of these things are beautiful,Each one a perfect moment.

They represent My Everything,My Everything – is you.

Page 6: From the Heart (Poetry)

Always and Forever

Every time you touch me,My heart skips a beat.

When you tell me that you love me,You take my breath away.

When I look into your eyes,My soul soars ever higher.

As you hold me in your arms,Time stands still for me.

You are beautiful in the mornings,Stunning in the afternoons,Alluring in the evenings,

And simply ravishing late at night.

Does everyone find this kind of love? The kind that knows no bounds?

The kind that weathers any storm,And comes out ever strong?

This love of ours is real and pure,It wasn’t bought with diamonds.

We forged this love, like tempered steel,Unbreakable, and everlasting.

You have always been my Princess,My one true Happily Ever After. And I will love you for eternity,

Always and Forever.

Reach For A Star

I look up into the sky at nightAnd see a million stars

Glittering in the darknessEach one untouchable, like an impossible dream

I walk inside, and there you areYou turn around, and look at me

As I look into your eyesI realize what love has brought

From reaching for a star.

When life forces us apartDuring those working hoursI do my work, as best I can

Yet you are always in my thoughts

And when I come home at nightMy day becomes complete

As you hold me in your armsI feel what love has brought

From reaching for a star.

I close my eyes at nightAnd my sleep brings dreams

And though you lay beside meStill, I dream of you

There in my dreamsI see wondrous beauty

As I dream of you, my AphroditeI understand what love has brought

From reaching for a star.

When we hold each other closeAs our two bodies become one

Intimately embracing each otherExpressing our love completely

My heart swells with each secondEvery movement, every sound

Page 8: From the Heart (Poetry)

As we touch the clouds togetherI am grateful for what love has brought

From reaching for a star.

As I look into your eyesAs you hold me in your arms

As I dream of you, my AphroditeAs we touch the clouds together

I realize what love has broughtI feel what love has brought

I understand what love has broughtI am grateful for what love has brought

From reaching for a star.

Nothing is impossibleNo dream is out of reach

Search the skyFor true love only comes

From reaching for a star.

Tapestry of Fate

Years ago Fate was working,Weaving her endless tapestry.Every string a different person,

One was you, one was me.

Then one day Fate discoveredA string colored a different hue.

It was not just a red or gold,But the color of Midnight Blue.

And as she looked into this soul,Another string was seen.

Again, different from the other ones,This one Forest Green.

Fate looked long upon these two,And saw what could be done.

Her expert hands moved the strings,Destined the two to be one.

She watched with satisfactionAs the two souls grew together.

Friendship blossomed into a loveThat looked to last forever.

And now that they moved side by side,Fate moved on from Blue and Green.

For others in her tapestryWere needed to be seen.

Years passed when Fate recalled them,And saw with a troubled heart,

That Midnight Blue, and Forest Green,Had begun to drift apart.

So once again, Fate intervened,And set upon the two.

She smiled at the courage of Green,And the compassion of Blue.

They came out from their trial of fire,And Fate was overjoyed to find,

Blue and Green did not walk side by side,

Page 10: From the Heart (Poetry)

They were now entwined.

So Fate moves on, to other strings,For her tapestry is great.

Every string a different person,Each one needing a soul mate.

Soul mates are hard to find,Rarely are they seen.

But I know that I’m the Midnight Blue,And you are the Forest Green.

Within

As I look back on days gone byAn image forms in my head

I stand outside our castle wallsLooking up at you

I do not see the storm cloudsThat creep up from the horizon

I do not notice the wind picking upOr the trees bending in alarm

It’s not until the storm strikesAnd the war drums echo

That I see the danger that has comeUpon everything we have built

With grim determinationI strap on my sword and armor

And step out onto the fieldReady to battle the demon

Minutes turn to hoursThe hours into days

I fight on never yieldingTo the demon that has come

There are times during the fightWhen things quiet for a moment

And then the anger risesAnd the fight continues on

Weeks have passed and I wonderShould I give up the fight

Let the demon overcome and winAnd destroy what we have built

And then I see you thereStanding in the doorway

My light, my love, you remainThough the fight has made you weary

And suddenly I realizeI have you by my side

I have won the fight already

Page 12: From the Heart (Poetry)

And the demon is my own

And so tonight I closed my eyesI took one last deep breath

I took off my sword and armorI ended the battle inside myself

A peacefulness descended upon meI felt the demon fade away

You remain beside meAnd that is all I need

So let others fight their fightsLet their demons haunt themI can finally sleep in peaceFor you are still beside me

So hold me close foreverFor I have laid to rest at lastThe demon within myselfAnd I remain beside you

A Star In Heaven

The tears that run don’t seem to endMy arms just want to hold you once again

My heart aches with every beatWhy were you taken from us, from me?

Cameron, my son, I love youWith every breath I take

And though you are not with usThe memories remain.

I’ll cherish every momentThat I had you in my life

And though the time was shortEvery moment was precious to me, to us.

Be patient, my son, we will see you againWatch over us, be with us

Forever in our hearts and mindsWe will be together again one day.

Until that time, take your placeUp there among the stars

Let your Angel’s wings fly you thereThe biggest playground of them all.

The tears are running againI am trying to be strong

But my son, I miss you dearlyI don’t want you to be gone.

Sleep now, my little CameronIn that place where there is no pain

Laugh, and love us, and stay in our heartsUntil we meet again.

A Sign Of Love From Me Up Above

Today I thought I’d let you know,That I’m still here with you.And so I found a big balloon,

It was near the floor, and it was blue!

So I filled it up, which took a bit,And let it rise up in the air.

I danced it around in my room,To let you know that I was there.

After you had left the house,I thought that I would zoom.

So up the stairs I took the toy,And played up in Uncle James’ room.

That’s where I was when you came home,And saw where I had played.

So I brought it back down the stairs,And in your room I let it stay.

Don’t be troubled, I’m still a kid,And I still like to play.

And this balloon is just a signThat everything is all okay.

I know you’ll cry for me some more,Because that’s what you need to do.

But Mommy, Daddy, Mike, Jhess, and De,Know I’m still here with you.

I’ll watch over you, and this balloonIs just my way of showing Love.I know you understand that it’s

A Sign Of Love From Me Up Above.

The Dream

Last night I had a dreamThat I was walking in the sand. And you were there beside me,

Holding tightly to my hand.

The sky was clear and bright,The water shimmered blue.

I knelt down and gave you a hug,You replied “I love you too.”

And then I thought that I awoke,For I was in my bed.

Mommy was there, fast asleep,Your blanket by her head.

Suddenly I heard a knock,That came from the side door.I wondered who it could be,

As I walked barefoot on the cold floor.

When I opened up the door,I saw to my surprise,

Two men standing there,Angels in disguise.

“You all have suffered greatly,Your prayers are heartfelt, and true.

And He knows the world needs miracles,He said this belongs, right now, to you.”

The two angels stepped aside,And behind them, standing there,

Was my boy, my Cami,I could only stare.

And then I knelt, began to cry,You came and hugged me tight.

God performed a miracle,For all to know about that night.

I awoke again, right after,To that familiar place.

Mommy slept beside me,

Page 16: From the Heart (Poetry)

Tears trickling down her face.

We all miss you dearly,Yet there is the thought,Was it a dream, a vision?

Somewhere a lesson to be taught?

Miracles can happen,And dreams sometimes come true.

But one thing that is certain,Is how much that we love you.

Butterflies

I heard the other day a talk,Of butterflies and wings.

Of hopes and dreams, and feelings,And many other things.

For some reason I didn’t understandButterflies were in my head.

Curiously, I grabbed the thoughtAnd this is where it led.

As I lay in the darkness,Drifting off to sleep,

A voice spoke up inside my headWarm, gentle, and deep.

“You all start out as angels,But each one needs to learn.

And so you are brought to earth,Until it is your turn.”

“Each one of you I gently wrapInside a human shell.

You live, and laugh, and love,And when you’re ready, I can tell.”

“Sometimes it takes a while,And sometimes it goes fast.

Sometimes others feel hurt and loss,For others that have passed.”

“But understand, and take comfort,For when that shell shatters,

Each one of you spreads Angel’s wings,And that’s what really matters.”

“So when you see a butterfly,Remember it is a sign.

It’s just my way of telling you,That each one has their time.”

“Each one of you are angels,And you don’t really die.

You simply come out of your shell,

Page 18: From the Heart (Poetry)

And spread your wings, and fly.”

It was then that I awoke,And thought of what I’d heard. And suddenly it all made sense,

Every single word.

So though we feel loss,And our grief is hard to bear,

Our angel has simply shed his shell,So he can fly up there.

A Family Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,Cameron, please watch over me.

Whisper softly, loving things,Keep me warm with your Angel’s Wings.

Hold me close, and snuggle tight,Talk to me in my dreams tonight.

Ease the sorrow in my chestWith happy memories as I rest.

And if God calls for me this night,May you be first in my sightTo be the one to help me fly,

To Heaven’s Gates up in the sky.

And if I awake to another day,Cameron, by my side please stay.

So stay close by as down I lay,Cameron, this to you I pray.

Afterword

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, the reader, for letting me share this small collection of poetry with you. If any of the poems have touched your heart, then I am pleased. Though many of them were written during perhaps the saddest time in my life, after the passing of my son Cameron, I am blessed to have had such an amazing little boy in my life. He remains with me, inspiring me every day with his memories, and I believe even helping guide me. Though he never knew that my lifelong dream was to be a writer, I think he has helped put my feet onto that path.

Poetry is something each of us has the ability to do. The beauty of poetry is that it comes in all forms. It doesn’t need to rhyme, or have a specific ‘beat’ to it in order to fall under the category of ‘poetry.’ It is not bound by rules. In everything we do, there is poetry. If it stirs your heart, it is poetry in some form.

All my best to you. And again, thank you so very much for letting me share these poems with you.
