While our "Christian" minds tell us to be sorry and even pray for the person, a little voice inside our heads may also be saying, "I'm glad I would never do anything like that." And perhaps we wouldn't. But are there some things we do that are still not pleasing in God's eyes? Today's readings caution us not to look so intently at someone else's wrongdoing that we overlook our own weaknesses and shortcomings. When we measure ourselves against the worst people we can think of, we come out looking pretty good. There is a danger, however, in using someone else's behavior as a way of reflecting our own goodness. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. Come experience Saint Teresa of Calcutta, the Saint of Mercy! Bring family and friends to a special CJC Mercy Series on our newest saint, Saint Teresa of Calcutta. The talks will be given by Fr. Michael Champagne, CJC at Our Lady of Sorrows

Retreat Center at 103 Railroad Ave., St Martinville, on select Fridays from 7:00-8:30pm. Oct 28 The Spirit of Mother Teresa: Loving Trust, Total Surrender, and Cheerfulness The lectures are free and no registration is necessary. SACRED HEART CAFE! Have you tried the Sacred Heart Café yet? The café is designed to be a little bit different from regular fundraising meal sales that we

normally have at church. The café was set up so that parishioners would have a chance to visit with and get to know each other. The idea is that small meals or snacks can be purchased and then eaten there in church with other parishioners. That is why we keep the cost so low (its not a fundraiser), and also why none of the meals are “to go.” We had a great turn out the past few weeks, and if you haven’t checked out the café yet, we strongly encourage you to make plans to have lunch with us after the 11:00am Mass!

Life Teen will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 beginning with the 5:00 pm Mass. Following

Mass the Life Night will end at 7:45 pm.

CONFIRMATION CLASS Classes will resume on Monday, October 24th from 6:00 - 8:15pm. Please call Robin at 364-4439 or email her at: [email protected] with any questions.

Parents, if you are in need of a place to bring your children during Mass you are welcome to use the Quieting Room at the back of the church. Space is very limited in the Quieting Room, when using this room we ask

ONLY one adult with their baby in this room. This room needs to be available to all adults with a baby that may need to go into it during part or all the ass. We have a Nursery that is located across from the gathering area. This room is larger and designed to hold more children. The Nursery does have speakers that you are able to hear Mass.

12th Annual Buddy Walk DSAA's 12th Annual Buddy Walk® is to be held on October 29, 2016 at Parc International again! DSAA's Buddy Walk® allows all individuals with Down syndrome, families, and friends

to come together to celebrate Down syndrome Awareness Month by promoting acceptance and inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome. The money we raised contributes to our purpose of supporting and connecting families of children with Down syndrome with events throughout the year that give families an opportunity to meet, mingle and gain information from each other. We meet this need in many ways, including but not limited to the following: Annual Picnic, Christmas Party, Quarterly Newsletter, Lending Library, Workshops and Training, New Parent Guide, Art Camps, Cool! I Can Cook!, Spring Conference, Easter Party, and other Social events.

Stewardship: TÜx lÉâ há|Çz ZÉwËá z|yàá àÉ wÉ ZÉwËá jÉÜ~áR

Stewardship Moment There is an interesting twist we find in today’s gospel when we hear Jesus’ parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector praying in the temple. The Pharisee is “praying to himself.” It doesn’t mean he was praying silently. It seems to mean something a lot more troubling, that he is praying to himself; that God is not his prayer’s intended audience. The words of the Pharisee are very much centered on himself: he makes claims about his character. He highlights his own admirable activities. Good stewards of their prayer lives know that a prayer of praise and thanksgiving should focus on the goodness of God. Do our prayers of thanksgiving always stay focused on God’s unfathomable, immeasurable goodness and generosity?

Fostering a Thankful Heart Life is a gift. Every Day. Every Minute. Every Breath. Offering thanks for our many gifts not only honors God, but also reminds us of the source of our temporal and spiritual goods. We are all creatures of habit who at times take for granted the abundant blessings we have received. Yet we all like to be thanked when we are the “giver”. Think of a time when you sent a gift that went unacknowledged. You probably wondered whether the person received - or appreciated - the gift. For the Christian steward, thanksgiving occurs more than once a year in November. When we begin to realize the magnitude of the gifts God has entrusted to us, gratitude becomes a state of being, a response to our baptismal call, a grace from God. This week: Pray for the grace to live joyfully with a thankful heart.
