From the FBC 4-H Team

Welcome to the 2016-2017 4-H year! Congratulations on all your achievements last year, and THANK YOU for continuing with us into a new year.

As many of you know, Fort Bend County is growing and changing, and here at Fort Bend 4-H we believe our program can’t stay behind. Even so, there are certain elements that should never change in 4-H, and we want to make sure all our families know what those are. For this reason, in all our activities and publications, the FBC 4-H team will strive to incorporate the following concepts: Belonging, Mastery, Independence and Generosity.

Below you will find a snapshot of how we are using these important elements in our program. We hope that you take advantage of these efforts and improve your own club experience as well!

4-H Enrollment: Connecting

Through 4-H CONNECT

The new 4-H year has begun and your first order of business is…enrolling in 4-H Connect! Whether you are new or returning, it is SO important for 4-H families to enroll in 4-H Connect.

Why? To be eligible to participate in 4-H events and at the Fort Bend County Fair, to serve as an adult volunteer, to receive THIS awesome

newsletter and other opportunities via e-mail, phone or snail mail…*gasp* Need we say more?

But seriously: September 9th is the last day to enroll to enter Fort Bend County Fair, and come November 1st, you will NOT receive emails or newsletters if you are not enrolled in 4-H Connect.

4-H 101 Meetings:

Ensuring Belonging

In keeping with our renewed commitment to recruit and retain 4-H families in our great county, the Fort Bend County 4-H team is holding 4-H 101 Meetings to welcome new families to our program.

The 4-H 101 Meetings are open to newly enrolled families as well as anyone just interested in learning more about 4-H. Even Club Coordinators and Adult Volunteers are welcome to attend, to learn or revisit how to market the basics of 4-H.

We’ll cover the essential elements of the 4-H experience, the opportunities for learning, leading and serving in 4-H, and how caring adults can get involved.

Join us at 7pm at the Fort Bend County Extension Office on the following Tuesdays:

One Day 4-H Fort Bend County Council is organizing a county-wide community service project on Saturday, October 8 in

benefit of Fort Bend County Animal Services.

The department has a CRITICAL need for adoption

help, supplies and monetary donations. More info will

be out soon. In the meantime, visit www.facebook.com/FortBendAnimalServices/

Help Louisiana Texas 4-H is asking for your help in collecting school

supplies for youth affected by floods in south

Louisiana. This is a great service project and one that you can do early as a One Day 4-H project.

Ship supplies to LSU Ag Center Warehouse, School Supply Flood Relief, 4161 Gourrier Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.

FBC Fair Arts & Crafts Volunteer Help keep the arts & crafts projects safe and answer

questions from visitors. Two-hour shifts available on Sep. 23-24 (10am-9pm), Sep. 25 (12-9pm), Sep. 26-

30 (5-9pm), and Oct. 1 (10am-9pm). Contact Angie Reid at 713-819-3793 to sign up.

We will be holding Robotics Info Meetings on Sep. 6 at 6:30pm (University Library) & on Sep. 20 at 6pm

(Cinco Ranch Library). RSVP on the FBC 4-H website.

Explore 4-H Project Workshop Series

This is your chance to explore a 4-H project and get

started on your learning for the year! The workshops are open to youth and adults, 4-H or not, so invite a

friend! Various workshops monthly—check out the flyers on page 5.

4-H Record Book Training

Learn how to start a 4-H record book or improve on your skills from last year. Join us on Oct. 6 at the

Extension Office: Newbies at 6pm, Veterans at 7pm.

Tractor Supply Clover Campaign In partnership with Tractor Supply, this campaign raises funds for YOUR county program by inviting

store customers to buy a Paper Clover for just $1.

Help us show the importance of 4-H in your life by

setting up a display of your club and/or your

projects at a TSC store! Sign ups will open online SOON for October 5-16.

Battle of the Clovers

Get more involved in 4-H and represent your club through the Battle of the Clovers, a year-long effort to earn bragging rights and an epic traveling trophy! Attend club meetings (and submit attendance sheets!), compete at 4-H events, and contribute to

the county program through County Council, One Day 4-H and fundraising to see your club rise through the ranks.

Don’t miss out on the battle this year!!!

1. Objective: To increase participation across all aspects of the 4-H

program and beyond

2. Rules of the Game a. Must be an active 4-H member of a 4-H club

b. Clovers – 12th grade

3. Point System

4. Recording System a. Points are recorded via sign in sheets at county events or

4-H Connect registration for district and state events

b. b. Points allotted to the primary club of the 4-H youth, as listed

on 4-H Connect, unless otherwise specified by youth or event is specifically related to a project club (dog, shooting sports, etc.)

5. Clover Games: A fun field day at Jones Creek Ranch on July 8, 2017

a. Physical & Mental Challenges

b. An opportunity to gain the maximum number of points c. All clubs are encouraged to participate

6. Award

a. 1st place gets a traveling trophy every year and

bragging rights! b. Special shout out to the top club

Series: Supporting Mastery

Introducing our new, family-oriented learning experience: Explore 4-H! Come explore an area of your interest through the hands-on learning that 4-H offers.
