Thanks to everyone who joinedus for parent teacherconferences! This was thedistrict's first time schedulingthis opportunity in the Springand it sounded like it was verybeneficial. Because of theconferences, there is no longer a3rd quarter report card. In preparation forconferences we have been updating progressthrough various assessments and it has beenexciting to see the growth our children have beenmaking in their literacy skills! Reading with yourchild each night also helps your child continuallygrow and refine their skills as a reader.
In early April you will receive notification of whetheryour child is invited to attend summer school. Thiscan be a fantastic opportunity for students to keeptheir skills sharp as well as provide for someenriching experiences! This summer our site is atLowell Elementary where I will also be as a summerschool principal. I'm really excited to haveapproximately 12 staff members joining me! Thiswill enable our students to work with familiar adultsand really maximize learning!
Please remember that we are here to work inpartnership with you. If there are things that needto be discussed, problem solved or celebrated, let usknow. By working together, we can ensure thatLapham will continue to have many more proud

Maynard's Lil' Ducks Reading Program
As you know, our K‐2 students have been participating in a reading programsponsored by the Madison Mallards. Goals were established by grade level with afocus on the number of books checked out of the library. For the 2nd consecutiveyear, we have exceeded the goals as a school, which means that every student ingrades K‐2 is eligible to receive 2 FREE Reserved Field Box Tickets for the Mallard'sgame on Thursday, June 11!! Additional Order Forms can be found here
Ticket order forms will be sent home from school but order forms must bereturned to the Mallard's Ticket Office (not Lapham) by Friday, April 17th.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
After we return from a well deserved Spring Break we will review basicprocedures and expectations at school for the recess, hallways, thelunchroom and the classrooms. We will be working hard at our listeningskills and "attention scope" so every student can finish the year on targetfor the next level. Our Second Step lessons in grades K‐2 will focus onhow to handle name calling as well as more playing fairly on theplayground. Our overall theme or focus for the month is EmotionManagement. We will learn some more strategies to use for calming aswell as continuing to practice breathing, mindfulness concentration oryoga in our classrooms.

Swimming is finally here! Swimming starts Tuesday April 7th. (The firstday back from Spring Break) Each class will swim once a week as part ofthe PE program at Lapham. I need lots of adult help to make ourswimming program successful. If you can help with your child's classplease consider volunteering. You do not need any special swimmingskills to volunteer and the water is warm. The following are the days andtimes each class is in the pool:

FROM MS. Dot Com IN THE LIBRARY
Thanks to everyone who visited our annual Book Fair last week!! It wasour most successful sale in several years! Special appreciation to thefollowing parent volunteers: Annalee Good, Stephanie Steigerwaldt,Jessica Spiegel, Katie Rice, Katie Dean, Jen Plants, Megan Berge andTracey Connor. We couldn't have done it without you!! Ms.VonBlaricom, our new librarian stepped in and did a great job along withsupport from Ms. Carrie, Mrs. Belz, Mrs. Schenker, Mrs. Stich and Mr. Phil.
FROM MS. KIMBERLY IN THE ART ROOM
It's been great to have Ms. Brett (our student teacher) assist in the artroom. We have been busy creating and using our imaginations, and arehaving lots of fun!
Kindergarteners continued with their self portraits and made model clayanimals that they put in drawn zoo environments. They also worked onpainted prints using all kinds of recycled materials. It was great for them to learn about the value ofrecycling, reducing, and reusing.
1st graders finished their cats. Our opening reception of "Kitties by Kiddos" at Java Cat Cafe is anexciting event! Ms. Brett also worked on mazes with the kids, and fairy doors which are all aroundthe school. The kids particularly loved the fantasy involved in that project.
2nd graders have worked on warm and cool colored pop‐ up landscapes. They also continued withtheir weavings and Ms. Brett worked on paper mache mythical creatures with them.
We worked on a school wide art project that has taken months to plan and organize. The "Art in theGarden" project is a very exciting opportunity for the Lapham community! With a great deal ofvolunteer support, we worked on clay stamps based on different garden themes and the followingweek, used those clay stamps (after they were fired) to make the tiles. Each child will have a tile thatwill be installed in the garden as a permanent art exhibit. For a closer look at the project, check outthe Garden and Green Team section of this edition of the Lookout.
Ms. Brett has come up with very innovative and exciting projects for all the kids! She's leaving to goon to a high school art room. MUSICAL NOTES FROM MS. CHUSID
We've been having a creative mid‐winter in the Lapham Music Room. Thefirst graders had another visit from the Hunt String Quartet as part of theMadison Symphony's Up Close and Musical program. First grade parents ‐‐ we'll be taking a trip to the Overture Center on May 12 to hear the
symphony. Kindergartners have been learning some singing/circle games as well as some traditionalAmerican folk songs. We've also played rhythm instruments and extended our work on the steadybeat. Second graders have been singing songs about Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks. The keyboardsshould be up and running again soon for everyone to use. Happy Spring and keep singing!
INTERNAL TRANSFER REQUESTS
Our internal transfer process provides an opportunity for our families to ask that their child attendan MMSD school that is outside of their regular MMSD attendance area. Beginning with the 2015‐16school year, the Board of Education adopted a revised application process for new internal transferrequests. More.
RED CABOOSE AFTER SCHOOL
Spring is finally here and we've been doing quite a bit of celebration. As you havenoticed, we have been doing pick up time outside from 4:45‐5:45 as it's sunnierand warmer, so unless it's raining, you can pick your child up on the playground. In the art room, we've explored the science of aerodynamics through buildingwhirly‐gigs and are starting to practice our basketball skills outside.In Gym A, we've developed a symbol for the group of a golden dragon and havedrawn it, decorated it and displayed it proudly! We also have completed an entire
papier‐mache pinata project from concept to construction and decoration, to opening it up andlearned a lot about long term planning.
In Gym B, we've explored different types of slime and goo recipes, and developed our thinking skillsthrough drama games and large‐group parachute activities.
Summer Camp Enrollment is officially open and applications are available online or by request! Ifyou'd like to sign up for summer camp or would like more information pleasecontact [email protected]. Camp Caboose offers full day programming based onsocial‐emotional skills and includes field trips, swimming and meals!

LAPHAM GARDEN AND GREEN TEAM UPDATE
As the ground thaws the pace picks up for Lapham's Garden &Green Team. Students resume composting in the lunchroom thanksto the efforts of Ms. Terri Belz; Community GroundWorks searchesfor a new 2015‐2016 Gardener‐in‐Residence; and planning forSpring's Classroom Visits begins anew. At our March Garden &Green Team Meeting we welcomed two new 1st grade parents intothe fold: Emily Sonneman and Christine Constanzo! They are alreadycontributing great ideas to our outdoor garden program. We hopeto see more Kindergarten and 1st grade parents at our April20th meeting as new leadership is needed since several 2nd grade parents will be moving on nextyear: Stephanie Steigerwaldt, Dana Hoffman and Cassidy Kirkpatrick. Thanks for all you have done toenrich our program!

The Lapham/Marquette Variety Show is scheduled for Friday, May 1 from6:00‐8:00 p.m. in the Marquette Gymnasium. If you are interested inperforming, please complete the Variety Show Application.
Our SUPERHERO AUCTION will take place on May 15 from 6:00‐9:00 on Friday evening at St.Bernard's on Atwood. Like last year, we will be selling Raffle Tickets to win some wonderful prizes!The Grand Prize Winner last year received a night at the Kalahari Resort in the Dells and waterparkpasses. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.
A little different this year: we will be offering online bidding on our Silent Auction items. Of course,you must be at the Auction to join in the fun of the "battling bidding" for our fabulous Live Auctionitems. Soon we will start listing our Auction items on our website for all to view. Check us out on thePTG website (and join so you can get regular notices throughput the year from our LaphamMarquette PTG.) You will want to check in regularly to check out new items as they are added!
This year we will be displaying our Children's Handmade Quilts prior to the auction. We will acceptbidding online and at Lapham. The Quilt Squares are drawn by each student at Lapham, and theirdrawing is included in their classroom quilt.
So, come join in the fun with great people, live music, beverages and appetizers.We will also haveour wonderful Red Caboose workers playing with our children, and serving them pizza, popcorn, andice cream! And, all of this is included in your adult ticket purchase. Help support our schools bycoming and raising funds for the services and events that would otherwise not be possible!
