I would like to commend ourjunior leadership in their fore-thought and support of ouryouth sailing program. I amexcited to announce a new boatclass to our junior fleet calledthe RS Feva, a double-handedsailboat with simple sail con-trols. The RS Feva is the per-fect training platform for devel-oping skills at any level. TheFeva’s uncluttered large cock-pit makes training and racingaccessible to all abilities ofsailor. The asymmetric spin-naker allows even youngsailors to get in on the action.

It is a stiff, strong boat, requir-ing virtually no maintenance, which is another reason thisboat is a great fit to our fleet. The addition of the 3 Fevas

will allow us to remove the420s from the “learn to sailportion” of our camp so theymay be utilized primarily forhigh school and GYA racing. As soon as the boats are deliv-ered to FYC, I will schedule ademo day, so that anyone cancome down to the club andcheck them out. This is anexciting addition to our pro-gram, potentially increasingthe retention rate in sailorsfrom our summer sailing pro-gram. Not only do we want torecruit more sailors, but wewant to retain and developthem throughout their sailingcareer.

At the time this newslettercomes out, I will be returningfrom the 2019 US SailingSymposium in Jacksonville Fl.These events provide greatopportunities to share ideaswith other programs fromaround the country and to seewhat they are doing to improvetheir programs. It not just ourgoal to have a surviving sailingprogram, but we want one thatis thriving.

Race One! Yes, it was chili enoughto have a Chili Bowl Regatta.Amazingly there was a great turnoutof hearty sailors in 10 boats. Thewinds were strong, maybe 15 knotswith some gusts up to 20 knots.Nellie Belle had steering problemsand Friday Night Gigilos tore uptheir rudder and later shredded theirpretty spinnaker. Sorry about that. The racing boat class had 6 boatsparticipating with Tigress leading theway by a good margin and WhiteHawk beating Damn Yankee by only40 seconds for 2nd place. Scoring wasas follows:Tigress 5 ptsWhite Hawk 4 ptsDamn Yankee 3 ptsWanderer 2 ptsMOJO 1 ptThe Cruising Class had 4 boats par-

ticipating with Gypsy Wind winning.Scoring was as follows:Gypsy Wind 5 ptsAlouette 4 ptsNepenthe 3 ptsKeep your Cold Weather Gearhandy as the next race looks like itmight be very CHILI.

Race Two! Baby it's cold outside. Please be informed this race has beenCANCELED. Wind Chill has driventhe FUN FACTOR way down andinadvertent swimming in the Bay isnot recommended. There are a couple of really goodFootball games on today. See younext week for Race #3 and some real-ly good Chili.

Race Three! It was really nice to seeanother big turnout for the 3rd Race.I think I counted at least 10 boats.Unfortunately there was hardly anywind and not enough for any boats toget to the 1st mark after an hour and15 minutes so the Race was Canceled.Hard to believe that the WeatherPredictions were pretty accurate for achange at 3-4 knots going to zero. Itdid re-affirm the old adage thatSailboats are No Darn Good WithOut Wind. That's OK, it was stillFUN. The Final RegattaResults were as follows:RACERS1st Tigress2nd White Hawk3rd Damn YankeeCRUISERS1st Gypsy Wind2nd Alouette3rd Nepenthe
