From the Campus Principal Jane Kuok
Dear Parents,
The haze continues to plague us and we thank the community for putting up with the disruption. We understand your
frustrations with juggling work and child care too.
The latest update from the Ministry (circular sent via the MoE website yesterday evening and attached later in this
newsletter) states that private and international schools may remain open should the MoE declare schools closed.
Therefore, we revert to our previous procedure which is that if this is the case, we will conduct our own risk
assessment. Should we decide to remain open, our procedures will be as follows:
• Upon arrival to school, students should report straight to class.
• There will be no play time, break time or lunch time outdoors.
• Air-conditioners will be kept on and doors and windows will be kept closed.
• Primary children will eat in classrooms – the Canteen will prepare take and go food/deliver food to be consumed in
classes for primary. Children may bring packed snack and lunch.
• Secondary students will eat in class. Students will buy take and go food from the Canteen and head to class to eat.
• Indoor CCAs will continue. Outdoor ones will be cancelled.
• We encourage parents to provide students with appropriate masks (N95) to wear in school.
We will communicate via Twitter, e-mail (if we have access), Facebook and the School website.
If parents do not want to send children to School because of haze conditions, any absence will be considered
‘authorised’.
Please follow us on Twitter ‘@tenbyipoh’. Our Twitter feeds are now synced with the Tenby Facebook page (https://
www.facebook.com/tenbyipoh) as well as our Tenby Ipoh’s website for real time updates.
Some parents were asking how to join Twitter, so here are the instructions.
You need to have an active Twitter account (free), sign in, search for us using the ID ‘@tenbyipoh’ and then ‘follow’ us.
You will be automatically kept up to date with what’s new as we Tweet. You can download the Twitter app onto your
phone.
If you do not receive the Tweets as they come in, please go to your phone settings to enable them. For iPhone follow
these steps: ‘settings’ > ‘notifications’ > ‘Twitter’ > enable ‘Allow Notifications’. For Android users: Open Twitter >
‘settings’ > ‘general’ > enable ‘sound effects’.
We will not be using Twitter to ‘follow’ any students, staff or parents. However, we will be following organisations, e.g.
the Department for Education, Ofsted, other schools and some key educationalists who we feel may be of interest to
you. We would like parents to follow us so that we can Tweet you important information and keep you updated. So,
essentially, information will be sent to you from us ‘one way’ only. Please do not reply any tweets.
Please do not use Twitter to communicate directly with the school as the messages will not be picked up. If you need
to inform us of anything, you should do so in the usual manner – Student Planner, telephone, e-mail, letter or drop in.
We will start sending you information from next week.
We would like to move towards this as the main means of communicating real time information as we will have access
to this outside School hours. This will replace SMS blasts from January 2016. Twitter messages can be set up on
mobile phones to be received like SMSes.
Missed Paid Outdoor CCAs
At the end of this term, there are two weeks where replacement classes can be put. However, if the haze continues
this may not be possible. Therefore, any paid outdoor CCAs that have had to be cancelled (and not replaced) this term
will roll into next term’s CCAs. Parents will only be charged for the ‘extra’ CCA classes. More details will follow.
British High Commissioner’s Visit to Tenby Meru Campus
HE Vicki Treadell the British High Commissioner to Malaysia visited our school on Monday 19th October to kick off
her Perak roadshow trip. She was greeted by our student leaders on arrival and taken on a short school tour by two
of our student leaders Benjamin Chan and Emily Tan. On the High Commissioner’s request, the school also invited
Principals from SMK St Michael’s School, SMK Main Convent, SMJK Ave Maria and SMJK Sam Tet. The latter two
schools brought along their students to listen to a talk that was the highlight of the Commissioner’s visit. On our
side, we had Years 10, 11, Cohort 12 and KBSM 3 & 4 students attending the talk on “Big Achievements Require Big
Dreams”. In her talk, HE Vicki spoke about her childhood in Ipoh, she shared her parents’ big dreams of moving the
family to the United Kingdom and described how she forged a career in the diplomatic core. She emphasised the
importance of having ‘big dreams’ and life goals at different stages of life. She spoke about the importance of stepping
out of one’s comfort zone in order to excel. Lastly her talk ended with a Q & A session from the floor and the students
were given a chance to ask her.
Parents Forum
The school started its Year Group Parents’ Forums this week. Thank you to parents from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and
KSSR 1 to 3 who participated in the Year Group Forums on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We e-mailed to all
parents of the same year group a summary of the key points raised from the respective forums.
The feedback we received from parents was very positive. We explained that the purpose of the forum was to answer
queries from parents as well as to gather feedback on general matters. We do not discuss any matters regarding
individual students or staff members as these should follow the usual communication channels.
The Parents Forum for KSSR 4 - 6 scheduled for today has been postponed until Tuesday 3rd November.
We look forward to meeting other year group parents at the other forums (see below).

notified accordingly by Mrs. Puvanes.
Assessment Talk
On Wednesday, we held an Assessment Talk in the Auditorium.
Approximately 40 parents attended this session and they were given
an overview of the summative and formative assessments in both
International and National sections of the School. Parents who attended
gained a better understanding of how teachers form judgements based
on student performance and achievement.
World Animal Day and KRI Road Run
Sunday 18th October was a busy day for our campus as the World Animal Day and the KRI Road Run was held
simultaneously in Meru Campus. Approximately 600 runners took part in the run while our school was represented
by 22 very eager students. The World Animal Day saw our campus visited by stormtroopers, princesses, beautiful
canines and furry felines. Their flea market in the Basketball Court sold curios, cupcakes and cookies, vegetables from
Cameron Highlands and even flash travel gear!
RWI Phonics Workshop
Sammy Leuty conducted a Read Write Ink Phonics Workshop for Early Years at Meru Campus on Wednesday for
parents of Reception and Nursery classes. At TEYCI, the workshop was conducted by Mrs Puvanes. The attendance
by parents was very encouraging and we hope to conduct another workshop for KS1 at Meru Campus shortly. We
hope parents will practise the sounds and strategies at home with their children.
Traffic
We have received numerous complaints that a few parents forcibly drive into the traffic cones when they need to
change lanes when they are not supposed to or cut into another lane as they do not want to queue up in the correct
lane as the line was too long. We urge parents to be considerate of other drivers and the traffic rules in the school.
These cones were put in place to prevent drivers from driving dangerously. The school will start to take measures
against parents who do not abide by the traffic rules. It would be a shame to start banning such drivers from entering
the Campus.
Please see the traffic flow diagram with commentary attached.
Suspension of Students for Non-Fee Payment
It is with regret that the School has suspended students this term when fees have not been paid on time. To avoid this
next term, please ensure that payment is made promptly so that the learning for your children is not disrupted.
Health & Safety – Keeping Gates Closed
We wish to remind parents and staff who use the walkway between Block A and Block B to close and secure the gates
properly by latching them. The gates are in place to prevent students from running onto the road.
Deepavali Assembly & Dress Up Day
There will be a special Deepavali Assembly in the school on Friday 6th November. Students may come to School in
Deepavali traditional clothes on this day to celebrate.
Open Days – Tomorrow and Next Week
Tenby Early Years’ Centre Ipoh have their Open Day tomorrow from 10:00hrs – 15:00hrs. There will be fun activities
for children to do. Please bring along your friends if you like.
Likewise, Tenby Schools Meru Raya Campus will have their Open Day next weekend on Saturday 31st October from
10:00hrs – 15:00hrs. Do pop in with your friends to join in activities for children to try.
Have a good weekend and stay safe.

“Membalas Pantun” Competition
It has been an exciting week for us, the SR6 students. To reward the students for working hard
prior towards the examination, the teachers have prepared different activities for us (Thank you
teachers!!! We love you!!!!). One of these activities is the “Pertandingan Berbalas Pantun”.
I would like to briefly explain how this activity is being carried out. “Pertandingan Berbalas
Pantun” literally means responding a poem with another poem. This is how the competition
works.
The contestants are divided into groups of three, and given a theme to base their poem on.
Each contestant is required to create one stanza based on the theme for each group. The
contestants will be tagged A, B and C for each group. There must be a clear direct question in
the stanza which the group will present to the opposing team. The other group will have to
counter the question with an answer in the form of a poem. Although the questions can be
prepared beforehand, the answer must be replied within a time limit of three minutes. The fellow
participants are allowed to discuss among themselves. The time keeper will make sure the
participants do not exceed the time limit. The contestants will be judged according to their
intonation, clarity of speech, the creativity of the poem, vocabulary, grammar and most
importantly the teamwork among the members.
The judges were Puan Ganesan, the organizer of this competition, Puan Tini and Cikgu Fazila,
who kindly took time out from their busy schedules to be our judges for this competition. I would
like to express my sincere appreciation to them.
I learned many things during this competition. One of them is that if we work together towards a
similar goal we can achieve anything. Another valuable lesson is that you are never truly
alone. But above all the most important thing I learned is that humans are born to interact with
one another and we cannot just shut ourselves away from the rest of the world. We had a lot
of fun. As a student, I hope that similar activities will be conducted in future.

Let me recite the answer…
Teamwork is very important in this competition.
Science Book Competition
In conjunction with the Science Week held on the 5th to 9th October 2015, KSSR 2
students took part in the Science Scrap Book Competition. Students were given one
and a half hour to complete their scrap books. The objective of this activity is to share
thoughts and ideas in a creative way.

End of Year Examination 2015
Sekolah Tenby will commence their end of year examinations from next week. The
exam schedules are available in the later part newsletter.
News from Tenby Early Years Centre Ipoh (TEYCI)
From our previous Newsletters you are aware of
the “Read, Write and Inc. Phonics programme
which our school has implemented for students
from Reception to Year 1 to read and write
effectively. This programme provides a structured
and systematic approach in teaching literacy. It also helps students to read fluently, being
confident speakers and creative writers. To enable parents to have a better understanding of
the programme, we organised a “Read, Write Inc Workshop” on Thursday 22nd
October,
2015 at 15:00hrs in TEYCI hall. As it coincided with our Coffee Evening, parents had a good
time chatting and getting to know each other. The teachers demonstrated some lessons to the
parents to enable them to know how children learn.
Open Day at TEYCI is scheduled for this Saturday 24th
October, 2015 from 10:00hrs to
15:00hrs. Do bring your friends along to give them the opportunity to know more about how
learning takes place in Early Years. A range of activities have been arranged throughout the
day, thus, this is the opportunity for you to get more information about the school.
