The awards ceremony for kindergarten through 7th grade will beheld on June 7th beginning at 9:30 in the gym. The following timesare approximate but we will not begin before the scheduled time:* K2: 9:3010:00* 35: 10:1510:45* 67: 10:5011:20

The last day of school for students is Wednesday, June 8, with aclosing liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral, followed by dismissalat 11:45 a.m. Progress Reports will be distributed on this day. Ifyour child is absent on the 8th, you may call to arrange to pick upthe final Progress Report, MondayThursday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.,beginning the week of June 13; Progress Reports will not bemailed. The school calendar for 20162017 will be available soonon our website; please consider "subscribing" to the calendar sothat you are instantly alerted to any changes or additions.

Finally, I would like to speak for a moment about the dreadedsummer learning loss. You can expect summer reading andsummer math requirements from the teachers by the first of nextweek. We are also asking teachers to post the summer reading andmath requirements for their class on their website. But besides theschool requirements there are some things parents can do to helpmitigate "brain drain" over the summer. The most effective way forstudents to be successful over the summer is to focus on specificskills. By thinking about the academic challenges your child facedthis year and fitting in some practice in these areas over thesummer, he/she can return to school ready to hit the groundrunning in September. Just 1530 minutes a day of review can helpyour child retain and, in some cases, gain mastery of concepts. Bydeveloping and implementing a summer plan, you can keep aliveyour child's passion for learning and he/she can enjoy a continuedsense of academic selfesteem.

Feast of Corpus Christi, the Church celebrates thecentrality of the celebration of Mass and thereception of Holy Communion in the life of herpeople. There is absolutely nothing more importantin our life as a church than the celebration of theEucharist. It is how the memory of Jesus has beenkept alive and His gospel proclaimed over the past2,000 years. We thank the Lord for giving us thesacrament of His Body and Blood as food for ourjourney through life to the Kingdom of God. We had a great Town Hall meeting last Sunday afternoon. For our initial experience, theturnout was respectable and the table discussions were just great. There were fivequestions keyed off April's parish survey that were the foci of the discussion: 1. Faith Formation: What programs or activities will best grow your faith and the faith ofour parishioners? (Examples: bible study, youth group, annual retreat). 2. Social: What activities will promote a sense of family and community in our parish?(This begins with all our liturgical celebrations and extends to our social activities). 3. Worship: What will enhance the grace and spiritual experience you feel while atMass? (Examples: greeters, coffee after Mass, sound system already in the works). 4. Outreach Efforts: How to encourage Catholics residing within our parish boundaries,to reengage and join us? 5. Service: Where should we direct our efforts in delivering support and services to thosein need? Members of the pastoral council will now synthesize the discussion results and begin toconsider 34 goals over the next three years. If you did not attend the meeting and wouldlike to make a comment or suggestion about the above discussion questions, you may doso by June 5th at [email protected]. Work continues on our Church's sound system. Repairs to the floor jacks, connectors, etc. have taken place and most of the new microphones (pulpit, cantor station, contemporary group, altar) have been installed. Fr. Andrew and I have yet to receive ournew wireless mics. The speaker system has been reequalized to improve itsperformance. The next phase is the installation of digital mixers that will not only enhancethe sound but permit real time adjustments to the system (i.e. adjust volume etc.). Thecost for this phase is $22,000. A parishioner has generously agreed to match dollarfordollar other donations towards this project up to onehalf the cost of the project. Ourchallenge is to raise the other half. So for every dollar raised, the parishioner willmatch your gift! Bishop Madden's next prayer walk in Baltimore City is this Tuesday at St. Veronica's(806 Cherry Hill Road) beginning with a simple dinner at 5:30pm in the parish hall next tothe church. There is ample street parking at the church. The Bishop's walks are a meansto show solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the City but most of all to ask God's giftof peace and justice. A Welcome Reception for new parishioners will take place in the Parish Center nextSunday, June 5th after the 9:30 am Mass. If you are new to the parish over the last year, please join us! Finally, remember the repose of the soul of Dr. Walter R. Welzant, a former parishionerwhose Mass of Christian Burial I celebrated Saturday morning. Enjoy the Holiday Weekend & Have a Good Week!Msgr.
