The office and studios will be closed on Mon- day. There will be no Newsflash delivery and no Open line pro- gram aired. The offices will reopen on Tuesday morning. SEVERE WEATHER LAST NIGHT Severe weather hit southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas last night, with numerous tornado warnings and flash flooding. Tornado warnings were issued for Red Willow County three different times. Warnings were also issued for Hitchcock, Decatur, Frontier and Rawlins counties. Reports of five inches of rain were reported north of McCook. There were also numerous reports of pea to golf-ball size hail. The chance of thunderstorms remains in the forecast for the rest of the Memorial Day weekend. NEXT ROUND OF SUMMER CLASSES McCook Community College is now accepting registrations for the next round of summer classes, many of which start in June. Summer classes allow students to rack up credit hours in a short amount of time. On-site, online and distance learning courses are available, making it easier and more convenient than ever to pursue a postsec- ondary education. Courses offered this summer include, but are not limited to: CPR Rescuer, General Biology, E-Marketing, Non-profit Management and Leadership, Personal and Professional Develop- ment, Business Computer Systems, Beginning Yoga, Expository Writ- ing I, Art Appreciation, Fundamentals of Mathematics, Trigonometry, Intro to Psychology, Intro to Philosophy, Intro to Zoology, Profes- sional Truck Driving and Fundamentals of Human Communication. A complete list can be found at: http://www.mpcc.edu/course- schedules . INSURANCE PREMIUMS JUMP About 42,000 Nebraskans next year would see their health insur- ance premiums jump more than one-third on average if a request by Blue Cross Blue Shield ofNebraska is approved. Blue Cross is seeking average health insurance premium increases of 34.9 per- cent for individual policies and 9.4 percent for small-group plans under the federal Affordable Care Act. Other insurers in Nebraska and Iowa also have requested premium increases, though some were smaller as low as 4.58 percent for one Iowa policy by UnitedHealthcare. (United also requested to lower premiums for one Iowa policy.) The rate requests do not apply to large-group policies, like those most people get through their employers, or to people who have renewed their pre-Affordable Care Act policies, although those rates also have risen in recent years. The requests also do not take into account tax subsidies that many individuals receive to reduce their premiums. Blue Cross said the reason for the 34.9 percent premium increase request is that people covered by the individual policies “are sicker and use more medical services than individual customers have in the past and more than anyone projected” under Obamacare. The first of many all-star games featuring area athletes starts

tonight with the Cambridge CSO All-Star games. Players from

McCook, Cambridge, Southwest, Arapahoe, Hitchcock County,

Bertrand and others were be featured in an East vs. West for-

mat. The girls game will tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys game to

follow. Both games can be heard on 103.9 The Hawk and online

at www.highplainsradio.net.

The Nebraska baseball team (37-20) saw its time in Omaha come

to a close on Thursday afternoon with a 6-2 loss to the Indiana

Hoosiers (32-23) in an elimination game at the Big Ten Tourna-

ment. The Hoosiers got revenge on the Huskers after NU swept

Indiana in Lincoln last week to end the regular season. Freshman

Matt Waldron tossed 5.2 innings for the Huskers and only al-

lowed a pair of unearned runs on five hits and a season-high

three walks. Waldron entered Thursday with 18.2 scoreless

innings on the mound and stretch it to 22.1 straight innings be-

fore Indiana scored in the fourth. Since both runs on Thursday

were unearned, Waldron hasn’t allowed an earned run over his

past 24.1 innings. IU starter Caleb Baragar went 5.0 innings and

also gave up a pair of runs on the day (both earned), allowing

only two hits and a walk, while striking out two. Relievers Tho-

mas Belcher and Jake Kelzer combined for 4.0 shutout innings to

end the game. The loss knocked the Huskers out of the Big Ten

Tournament and now they will wait to see if they receive an at-

large bid to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Division I

Baseball Championship Selection Show is scheduled for Monday

on ESPNU at 11 a.m. (CT).
