Friday 8 th November 2019 Year 6 have spent the week on the residential at Aylmerton Field Studies Centre. They returned too late today for a full report which will be in the letter next week but from I have heard during the week they have all had a super time. A week can feel like quite a long time to be away from home for the children and it is also a long time for staff to commit too. As such I’d like to thank Mr Cavender, Mrs Goddard and Mrs Roe for giving up their time to take the children away. In the absence of Year 6 our Year 5s have stepped in and carried out Year 6 jobs really well. Thanks to all the Year 5s for helping run tuck shop, sell poppies, help in the office and for setting up the hall for assemblies. Year 4 and Year 5 Class Assemblies - This week we have been blessed with not one but two excellent class assemblies. On Wednesday Year 4 shared their work over the term which included some very persuasive ideas linked to improving the physical environment of the school as well as a very catchy tune about noun phrases. On Thursday Year 5 put together an exciting and interactive Science based assembly looking at the characteristics of living things. Well done to all the children involved and a big thank you to all staff too! Next Year 6 complete the term’s assemblies with an Aylmerton themed assembly on Thursday 14th November. Reading Certificates The children have been busy working towards their first reading stars certificate. It won’t be long before the first group of children get their certificate for 10 weeks of regular reading. KS2 Topic Presentation Date On the afternoon of Thursday 5 th December and the morning of Friday 6 th Year 3 to 6 will be presenting their learning for the term to an audience of parents. More details to follow soon.

Friday 8th November 2019

Year 6 have spent the week on the residential at Aylmerton Field Studies Centre. They returned

too late today for a full report which will be in the letter next week but from I have heard during the

week they have all had a super time. A week can feel like quite a long time to be away from home

for the children and it is also a long time for staff to commit too. As such I’d like to thank Mr

Cavender, Mrs Goddard and Mrs Roe for giving up their time to take the children away.

In the absence of Year 6 our Year 5s have stepped in and carried out Year 6 jobs really well. Thanks

to all the Year 5s for helping run tuck shop, sell poppies, help in the office and for setting up the hall

for assemblies.

Year 4 and Year 5 Class Assemblies - This week we have been blessed with

not one but two excellent class assemblies.

Reading Certificates – The children have been busy working towards

their first reading stars certificate. It won’t be long before the first group of

children get their certificate for 10 weeks of regular reading.

KS2 Topic Presentation Date – On the afternoon of Thursday 5th

December and the morning of Friday 6th Year 3 to 6 will be presenting their

learning for the term to an audience of parents. More details to follow soon.

Sport Update – Next Wednesday 2 of our girls teams take part in the North Norfolk

Cup. Then in a few weeks it is the Cluster Cross Country at Coltishall. This has been our best year for numbers at cross country club. It would be great to see even more Year 3 to 6 children on a Friday in the lead up to Wednesday 27th November’s event.

Year 4 School Improvement Ideas - One of the excellent ideas that

year 4 came up with was to hold a chess club which they are now doing with

the help of Mrs Gripton. Groups of Year 4 children are also taking on the jobs

of book corner inspectors and cloakroom monitors. In addition,

another group are making changes to the nature garden to

make sure we look after birds and other animals.

Governor Day – On Thursday 14th November our school governors are

in school for the day as part of their annual scheme of monitoring visits.

During the day they visit classes, meet subject leaders and chat to the

children. The governors play an important role in the school in their role

as a “critical friend” and I appreciate the time they give up to fulfil their

role.

NDR Visit – On the 20th November Year 5 and 6 are re-

visiting the site adjacent to the NDR where previously our

eco-committee children had planted trees. We are meeting with

representatives of Norfolk County Council to hear about the impact of the NDR.

Later in the term NCC staff will hold a follow up visit to the school to answer more

of our questions.

Remembrance Day – Thank you to everyone who supported

this year’s Poppy Appeal. By the end of the week most of the items

had been bought. Well done to Year 5 who sold the poppies. On

Monday 11th we will hold a special Remembrance Assembly in

school.

Parent Lunch Month – Parent Lunch month has got off a great start this

week with lots of parents enjoying a lunch with their children. The positive

feedback from the parents is really appreciated and a testament to the great job

Shane and Odette do in the EATS kitchen. Most slots for the month are fully

booked but there are still some spaces. Reception parents should arrive to eat from 11.50. Parents of

Year 1 and 2 should arrive at 12. Parents in KS2 should arrive for either 12.20 or 12.35 depending on

the lunch rota. All timings are approximate.

12.20 12.20 12.35 12.35

Week 11th November 3 6 4 5

Week 18th November 3 4 5 6

Week 25th November 3 5 6 4

*On Thursdays Year 3 go into lunch at 12 as they are swimming.

Admissions – Norfolk County Council are currently consulting on their

admissions procedures for entry into school. The survey link
