Friday 18 December 2015 Richmond Rhythm Dance Competition Last Friday, four Year 10 students represented Teddington School at the Richmond Rhythm Dance Competition held at Orleans Park School. The girls, competing in the Key Stage 4 category, had choreographed their own piece using the gaming console Wii as a stimulus. After several weeks of rehearsing hard, the girls took to the stage and performed their work in front of the judges. The competition was tough and there were some high quality pieces from other schools, but the girls were composed and performed extremely well. After all the schools performed, there was a nervous and anxious wait for the results. As the results were announced, the girls had no expectations as they simply had a great time soaking up the atmosphere and performing at a new venue. Then the announcement was made and Teddington School had been awarded first place. The group had been named as winners of the Key Stage 4 Richmond Rhythm competition. Such a fantastic achievement! The judges told the girls that they thought the piece met the criteria very well and was a well thought out piece. Congratulations to Elizabeth Woodford and Clara Pugh-Thorogood from 10Y2, Olivia Herring from 10W2 and Georgina Watson from 10S1. Winter Concert

Last Wednesday evening was our Teddington School 2015 Winter Concert. Over 120 students took part in the event, the most we have ever had in a school concert. The newly formed KS3 harmony group began the night with a Christmas hit from the 1980’s, followed by two very well performed songs from the Year 9 singing group, led by Alice Griffiths,11Y2. The new school orchestra, run by the Richmond Music Trust, played a Baroque piece with confidence and the classical theme continued with an outstanding duet from two grade 8 violinists, Sasha Manning, 11T2 and Anastasia Solovieva, 9Y2. Ms Bowman accompanied them on the piano. The two Year 11 singing groups gave the audience excellent and mature renditions for their final school concert performances. The audience appreciated not only the high standard of their singing but also the dedication they have shown to the singing groups over the last five years. The audience was again extremely supportive of the school’s first boys’ singing group who gave a rousing version of the Beatles’ ‘”Nowhere Man” in three part harmony. As Daniella Wilmot, 13LM, was unwell, Francesca Lake, 13LM, took it upon herself to perform “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as a solo and did an excellent job. Alice Griffiths appeared again for a beautiful piano solo and was followed by some complex and very well executed close harmony singing from the KS4/5 singing group. The Richmond Music Trust led School Jazz Band performed very well and the evening was rounded off by a powerful, acoustic version of “What a Feeling” from the school’s upcoming production, “Back to the 80’s”. Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Teddington School students took part once more this year in the annual Rotary Christmas Shoebox scheme. The gift of a shoebox that contains toys, toiletries, educational items or household goods is a drop of happiness to the people of Eastern Europe who live in a world of poverty. For many, it will be the first present that they have ever received and it lets them know that somebody, somewhere cares. The students thoroughly enjoyed filling and decorating the shoeboxes with thoughtful Christmas gifts for those less fortunate than themselves. They take great pleasure in giving something back especially at this time of year. Charlotte Jennings Assistant Head of Year 7
