CABBAGE– Green, red and savoy cabbage have all started with good supply PEAS- Fresh Ontario peas in pods are now done for the season. We only have shelled as an option. GREEN ZUCCHINI- Supplies of green and yellow zucchini are tight as the season winds down and the weather gets cooler. The season will end with the first freeze. CHINESE VEGETABLES- Ontario shanghai bok choy and bok choy continue. Supplies are good with very good quality. Gai Lan, and bok mui have also started locally. STRAWBERRIES- The ever-bearing varieties continue with fair supply. They will run until first frost. BUNCH RADISH – Ontario bunch radish continues, with good supplies. HOTHOUSE TOMATO- Ontario red vine and hothouse tomatoes continue with average supply. Gourmet medley, yellow grape and Campari are also available with good supply. There will be excellent quality with good demand and steady supplies for next week. HOTHOUSE PEPPERS- Red, yellow and orange hothouse bell peppers are still priced higher than normal, as acreage this year seems lower. We expect pricing to stay steady through October. WAX TURNIP (RUTABAGA) – New crop rutabaga continues, with pricing easing as supplies steadily increase. CARROT/ONION- Heirloom carrots continue with just fair quality and steady supplies. Jumbo carrots are in good supply. New crop Ontario red onions are available in good supply. HARD SQUASH- Spaghetti, pepper, butternut, buttercup and sweet potato squash are all going strong. APPLES– We continue with new crop Paula Reds. Jersey Macs are done. We will continue with Ginger Golds for about another 3 weeks before transitioning to Golden Delicious. Royal Gala’s will start this week as well as McIntosh and Honeycrisp. Red Delicious, Gold Delicious and Northern Spy will start around Thanksgiving. • GREEN ONIONS The green onion market continues to stay steady. The warmer weather recently is causing occasional leaf minor and is causing a slight gap.

• CUCUMBERS EAST - Cucumbers are in good supply in many parts of the eastern half of the country.WEST - Market is expected to remain steady.

• BROCCOLI Broccoli supplies continue to get tighter as growers are currently gapping in supplies and lower yields due to the recent heat. Quality is fair.

• POTATOES Markets on new crop potatoes have stabilized as supplies are meeting current demand. Ontario continues with excellent quality of red and whites and yukons, with all sizes (A’s, B’s and C’s) and pack sizes.

• ONIONS Yellow, red and white onions are in full production with excellent quality. The larger size super colossal and colossal yellow are lighter in supply but improving weekly.

• LIMESSome rains in growing regions in Veracruz are helping the crop progress after the long drought.

• LETTUCES ICEBERG - Growers are reporting that they are currently ahead of schedule by 7-12 days and, with the end of the northern season approaching, there is potential for a transition gap in early November Quebec iceberg lettuce continues with lighter supply as growers gap their last fields and experience heavy demand.ROMAINE / LEAF - Demand overall continues to be moderate to light on romaine. Some shippers have reported lower yields due to crop loss. Romaine hearts will have moderate availability all week. Red and green leaf lettuces are stable with promotable volume available this week. Quebec green leaf, red leaf continue with good volume and strong demand. Pricing on romaine is up due to the light supplies.SPRING MIX, SPINACH & BABY KALEBaby leaf supplies have slowly reacted to the recent heat in the Salinas Valley/ROCKET ARUGULA / WATERCRESSArugula supplies are very good with outstanding quality. Baby Red Kale will not be available for the foreseeable future. Bunched watercress quality and availability is good.

• APPLESIn the Pacific Northwest, we are seeing increased volumes on certain varieties (Gala, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious and Fuji)

• BRUSSELS SPROUTS The brussel sprouts market continues to stay steady. There is some internal decay. Ontario will run through November.

• CELERY Plenty of celery available with a wide range of sizes. Quebec celery continues with good supply and quality.

• CORNVolumes of corn will start to decline as the local deals finish. Ontario continues with good production.

• AVOCADOSThe industry is seeing solid inventory levels as Mexico is the dominate supplier. Harvest volumes have increased and field priceshave decreased.

• GOLD PINEAPPLES Fruit quality is reported as unstable but is in overall good condition. Large fruit with round bases are more prone to water spotting, a normal issue for this time of the year, with a good percentage of fruit showing external cirrhosis.

• MELONCANTALOUPES - Demand remains strong on cantaloupes. Supplies are tight and the market has reacted as such. Pricing is higher than they have been the entire summer seasonHONEYDEWS - Although we are seeing good availability for the first half of the week, expect supplies to tighten up going into the weekend.

• TOMATOES EAST - Pricing has improved as more Mexico imports are coming into the market. Eastern supply is still a few weeks away from coming into better supplyWEST - California has experienced more favorable temperatures helping to improve quality. However, overall volume has started to slow down as production moves past its peak of the season

• STONE FRUITWe are now finished with California nectarines for the season. Peaches are becoming snug. Some shippers have decided to finishharvest while others hope to pick for another 1-2 weeks.

• ASPARAGUSMarkets on both coasts are lower this week with more production from both Mexico, and Peru

• CAULIFLOWER Quebec and Ontario continue with good supplies. Quality is very good, with consistent sizing being the only defect.

• MANGOESWe are completely done with Mexican mangoes. Arrivals of Brazilian mangoes continue to be received. Volume will start low and will increase as we start October.

• PEARSNorthwest Bartletts are peaking on 90ct to 110ct with limited supplies on low grades. New crop D’Anjou (90ct/100ct) and Bosc (90ct-120ct) are limited in availability; especially on lower grades.

• CITRUS - LEMONSCalifornia supplies of 140’s and larger continue to be tight. We’ve seen a high demand for California supplies as import supplies seem to be winding down.

• BEANSBean supplies are good and easily meeting demand. Ontario supplies and pricing are steady. Snipped bean supplies are good

• WATERMELON Seedless watermelon supplies are still light. Growers are finishing up in North Carolina. California will go another week with light supplies. Quality from the California districts is fair

• ORANGES Valencias will start winding down in the next few weeks; 113s and 138s are very limited.

• BERRIES BLUEBERRIESThe imports are being reported as having very good quality at this point. RASPBERRIESLook for availability to improve as Mexico slowly begins to cross more fruit in the coming weeks.BLACKBERRIESBlackberries are becoming shorter in supply due to the delay in transfers out of Mexico.STRAWBERRIESStrawberries continue to be challenged by less than ideal weather events. While the fruit may look fair/good in the field and at ship point, the issue is in the lack of “legs” on the fruit, meaning its quality doesn’t last very long.

• ZUCCHINI EAST - Zucchini is in peak season with production coming from many spots in the eastern half of the country.WEST - Steady volume is expected to continue through the week from all districts.

• GRAPES Now is the time to promote. Grape harvest out of the Central Valley of California remains in full swing, with cooler weather allowing for some of the largest-volume days of the season so far.
