For the second straight sum- mer, the City of Ridgefield has partnered with the Battle Ground Parks and Recreation Department to bring outdoor activities to local children. The Summer Playground Program started July 3 and runs every Tuesday, 1-3 p.m., at Davis Park in downtown Ridgefield. The events are free and designed for children ages 4-10, according to Battle Ground Parks and Recreation director Debbi Hanson. The decision to team up to provide summer activities came from both necessity and a way to help a neighboring city, said Hanson. “Since Ridgefield doesn’t have their own Parks and Rec- reation department, it ends up working out for both sides because we get more kids in- volved,” Hanson said. Each week offers a different subject to explore, from “Dig- gin Dirt,” to “Circus Life,” “Summer Tropics” and “Buc- caneer Days.” More information can be found by contacting Ridge- field Public Works Director Steve Wall, (360) 887-8251, or go to the city’s website, www. ci.ridgefield.wa.us. Fred and Pearl Shelton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 14. The cou- ple was married July 14, 1962, at Pleasant View Nazarene Church in Ridgefield. The couple lives in Battle Ground and they enjoy spend- ing time with family, traveling and spending winters in Yuma, AZ. Fred worked for more than 40 years as a machine opera- tor at Bemis Bag Company and Pearl worked for more than 35 years at Bemis Bag Company as a graphic artist. Fred and Pearl have two daughters, Roxann (Shelton) Browning and husband Craig of Battle Ground and Robyn (Shelton) Mays and husband Scott of Battle Ground. They also have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A celebration will be held with friends and family at a later date.
