    Ladies SweaterInstructions are given for first size. Figures in parenthesis

    refer to larger sizes. When only one figure is given, it

    applies to al l sizes.

    Materials: approx. 1 2 (1 3, 1 5) bal ls (approx.1 43yd/1 30meach) of SMC select Extra Soft Merino (1 00% superwash

    Merino wool) in color 051 25 ecru.

    Size 6-8 [4-5mm] needles, size 3-6 [3.25-4mm] circular

    needle, 1 6-24 [40-60cm] long, 2 size 6-8 [4-5mm]

    double-pointed needles [dpns], cable needle [cn].

    Double Stranded Longtail Cast On: refer to aboveinstructions-

    Rib Pattern: k1 , p1 .Astrakhan Pattern: multiple of 4 sts.Row 1 [RS]: purl.Row 2: * [k1 , p1 , k1 ] in same st, p3tog, repfrom *.Row 3: purl.Row 4: * p3tog, [k1 , p1 , k1 ] in same st, repfrom *.

    Repeat rows 1 -4 throughout.

  • Diagonal Pattern: work according to chart. Chart shows

    RS of work. Work RS rows from right to left, work WS

    rows from left to right. Work grey sections on chart for

    size M and L only. Chart does not show rows in their

    entirety. Position sts as instructed in pat.

    Work chart rows 1 -1 2 as charted, then cont in pat as

    established unti l 6-st diagonal St st bands have moved to

    inside of selvage sts. Work rows 1 3-26 as charted, then

    cont in pat as established unti l 6-st diagonal St st bands

    are positioned as on chart row 1 .

    Work rows 27-30 as charted. Repeat rows 3-30

    throughout. Cable Pattern: work according to chart. Chart

    shows RS rows only; on WS rows, work sts as they

    appear.

    Repeat rows 1 -8 throughout.

    For front and back, work cable pat A = 36 sts; for sleeves,

    work cable pat B = 1 6 sts.

    Gauge: 24 sts and 26 rows = 4 [1 0 cm] in astrakhan pat;46 (54, 58) sts = approx. 6 (7, 8) [1 6.5 (20, 21 .5)

    cm in diagonal pat; 36 sts = approx. 4 [1 2 cm] in cable

    pat A and 1 6 sts = approx. 2 [5 cm] in cable

    pat B, when pulled tog with I -cord.

    Back: cast on 1 26 (1 42, 1 50) sts using double strandedlong-tai l cast on. P 1 WS row.

    Next, position sts as fol l : selvage st, work 44 (52, 56)

    sts in diagonal pat for right side

    according to chart [= p36 (40, 44), k6, p2 (6, 6)], work

    36 sts in cable pat A according to chart, work 44 (52,

    56) sts in diagonal pat for left side according to chart

    [= p2 (6, 6), k6, p36 (40, 44)], selvage st.

    After row 2, diagonal pat for right and left side = 46

    (54, 58) sts each and 1 30 (1 46, 1 54) sts are on the

    needle.

    Cont in pat as established unti l back measures

    approx. 1 6 (1 7, 1 9) [41 (44, 48) cm], after having

    worked 1 06 (11 4, 1 24) pat rows. Note: 1 0 (1 4, 1 6) sts

    after and before selvage st were worked in astrakhan

    pat on prev row. Shape raglan armholes: bind off

    8 (1 2, 1 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 2 sts each

    end of needle every other row 3 (4, 4) times, working

    decs as fol l : selvage st, k6, p3tog, work to last 1 0 sts,

    p3tog, k6, selvage st. Next, dec 1 st each end of

    needle every other row 22 (24, 26) times, working

    decs as fol l : selvage st, k6, p2tog, work to last 9 sts,

    p2tog, k6, selvage st. Sl remaining 58 back neck sts

    to holder.

    Front: work same as for back.

  • Sleeves: cast on 90 (98, 1 06) sts double stranded long-

    tai l cast on. P 1 WS row.

    Next, position sts as fol l : selvage st, work 36 (40, 44) sts

    in astrakhan pat, work 1 6 sts in cable pat B according to

    chart, work 36 (40, 44) sts in astrakhan pat, selvage st.

    Cont in pat as established unti l sleeve measures 1 7

    (1 6, 1 5) [43 (41 .5, 38.5) cm]. Shape raglan sleeve

    cap: bind off 8 (1 2, 1 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st

    each end of needle every fol l 4th row 1 (4, 6) times, then

    every other row 23 (20, 20) times, working decs as fol l :

    selvage st, p2tog, work to last 3 sts, p2tog, selvage st.

    Sl remaining 26 sts to holder.

    Icords [make 8]: with dpns, cast on 4 sts. * Sl ide sts toother end of needle, pul l ing yarn tightly. K4, then rep from

    * unti l I -cord measures 3-4 [9-1 0 cm]. Pul l I -cord

    straight occasionally to even out sts. Bind off.

    Finishing: pin pieces to measurements and block with

    damp towels.

    Sew raglan, side and sleeve seams.

    Neck band: sl back neck, left sleeve, front neck and

    right sleeve sts from holders to circular needle. Join

    for working in rnds.

    Next dec rnd: work in rib pat and k3tog last back st

    and first 2 left sleeve sts, last left sleeve st and first 2

    front sts, last front st and first 2 right sleeve sts, last

    right sleeve st and first 2 back sts 1 60 sts. Cont in

    pat as established unti l neck band measures

    [2 cm]. Bind off al l sts or work Knit one, purl one bind-

    off [see tip].

    Place 3 evenly spaced I-cord embell ishments around

    center cable at front and back, using photo as guide

    for placement. Bring I-cord ends to back of work. Pull

    center cable tog with I -cord and sew I-cord ends tog.

    Place I-cord embell ishments around diagonal St st

    bands at side seams [see photo].
